OK, so this guide is completed, but it may be out of date, so I may go through and fix it up a bit. I just like posting my one (and only) guide everywhere for people to check out smile Also, I'm 99 Smithing now and have been for well over a year now.

*This guide this a little rough in draft.

INTRODUCTION

Well, hopefully you all know that I'm smithing right now, and preferably I use a "mini-game" called "Blast Furnace". So why Blast Furnace?

PROS

- 60 to 99 Smithing can cost quite a lot of money in almost every way you do it. Blast Furnace costs next to nothing to get from 60 to 99, and at some points you can even profit off the items you make smile

- No banking for long periods of time (if you have the money, of course).

- The ability to buy the supplies while on a tight budget.

- You use HALF the coal for bars. So for example the normal four coal for every mithril bar, you only need two coal for every mithril bar.

CONS

- MUCH slower experience rates compared to spending a ton of money. Roughly 40K-60K compared to 100K-250K experience an hour (depending on what you're making).

- The Gate to get to the anvils is REALLY annoying. Especially when "Jorzik" the Dwarf is standing in front of it.

- Lots of complaining "noobs" at the furnace; can get REALLY annoying, though solved with turning Public Chat to "Friends" or "Off". razz

- You do get randoms here, so don't AFK razz

REQUIREMENTS

- 60 Smithing (or lower, but costs to use the furnace is annoying).
- Lots of supplies (noted).
- Hammer.
- *Lots of money (At least 100K, preferably 1M (Ignore the 16M in the ahead picture. I just withdraw all my money to be REALLY sure I have enough to unnote))
- Optional: Varrock Armour

*When unnoting ores, you unnote 23 at a time. It costs 517 for 23 coal (roughly 22.5 each) and 1863 for 23 Mithril (81 each)

THE HOW TO

Well, now it looks like you're ready to start Blast Furnace! Just follow these short, simple strategies to get about the best experience you can for Blast Furnace.

Blast Furnace with MITHRIL

Mithril is ore of choice for most "Blast Furnacers" (I'll just use BF'ers from now on) because you can buy a lot of the supplies for not TOO much. Another great thing is the experience rates from roughly 40K-60K an hour (depending on the Slaves (which are the people who work the furnace parts (pump, bike, coke))). Also, you don't have to bank as long as you have money and notes :].

Your Inventory for Mithril should include lots of coins, a hammer (regular or clay, but remember, you need to bank for clay and need to do Stealing Creation a lot for hammers), NOTED Mithril Ores and Coal.

As shown below:

You should also bring Varrock Armour to make it slightly faster.

STRATEGY

Well, now that you are ready for smithing, you inventory set, you're ready to begin your adventure in the hot and sweaty basement holding the infamous Blast Furnace. Here is a step to step guide on how I approach this wonderful work of art the Dwarves have introduced to us Humans.

Step 1. Unnoting

The order you should unnote your ores should be 2 sets of Coal first then Mithril. But wait, what do I mean by unnoting? Oh, of course, you can unnote your ores by using the noted ore on the dwarf to the West of the room known as Ordan.

User Image

Click the "X" as shown above then type in "23". You MUST continue the conversation. He will say "This will cost 517/1863 gold pieces. Are you sure?" (this depends on if you're unnoting coal or mithril). Click the TOP option in the next screen and you should get the ores in your inventory.

Step 1 1/2. Adding into the Furnace

After you have unnoted these ores, you need to put them onto the conveyor belt in order for them to get smelted (fancy that). Like I said before, you need to do TWO sets of coal and then ONE set of Mithril so unnote the coal and put them on, repeat, then unnote the mithril and put them in.

Step 2. The Wonderful Bars!

Given the "Slaves" have worked on the pump, conveyed your ores into the large bowl of boiling metal, and kept everything running properly, you should look at the Bar Dispenser nearby. When your ores are finished, they should look like this:

User Image

Now now, don't jump the gun just yet! DO NOT PICK UP THOSE BARS.

Step 3. The Tricky Part

One thing that many people do wrong here is pick up the bars and have to wait after smithing their bars after having to put more ores into the furnace, but there's a way for your bars to be ready most of the time (given the "Slaves" do their "Slave-Work") so I'll let you in on the secret.

Step 3 1/4. Your First Time at the Blast Furnace...

Now if this is your first time to Blast Furnace or you know you haven't had bars in their furnace prior, when you unnote your ores, you need to put FOUR sets of coal in instead of two. After this you must put ONE set of mithril in. NOW, the tricky part about this is when you put the SECOND set of mithril in.

The trick is the Bar Dispenser status. You must watch this little piece of work for when to put the Mithril in so here are pictures of when to and when not to put the mithril in.

This is when you DO NOT put the mithril in.

User Image

This is when you CAN put mithril in.

Step 3 1/2. If you've been here before...

If you already have bars ready when you start Blast Furnace (and after starting), you don't have to put four sets of coal, you only put two. After that you wait for the Bar Dispenser status to be glowing or gray (as shown in step 3 1/4), then you're ready.

Step 3 3/4. Getting the Bars

After all this complicated work, click on the bar dispenser when it's gray (if it's still orange, you can pick up a bucket to the south (there's a respawn), fill it up with the sink right next to the spawn, and use the bucket of water on the bar dispenser) and click (ALL) under the Mithril Bar picture on the top right. Now you're ready to face "The Gate" and start smithing.

Step 4. The Gate and beyond!

User Image

Yes, this gate can be EXTREMELY frustrating. One good strategy for people who are impatient is just to turn the camera facing South and click from there, but it still doesn't ALWAYS work and this is more for when Jorzik in in front of the gate. People go through instead of you, you don't go through. It's sometimes harder to get OUT of there instead of in, but once you get in, you'll be able to rejoice with your finished bars smile

From here you can just smith the bars on the anvils (If you have 60 smithing, you should know how, but if you don't (god forbid...), use the bar on the anvil and a menu should pop up).

From here either make Mithril Arrowtips or Mithril Bolts, it depends on which one costs more (to find out, multiply 1 Arrowtip cost by 15 and 1 Bolt cost by 10).

That's it!

THE CONTINUING

After all this is done, you can leave the Anvil section and unnote again just repeating steps 1 to 4 and continue until you run out of money or ores.

HAVE FUN SMITHING!
