The young dark cub was staring into that the forest casted on the earth. Within the vegetation, Kiume thought he'd seen a little red-spotted hare dart right through. The sight initiated a hunt, but the short venture was fruitless. Kiume's lack of skill proved painfully obvious, he couldn't even find a scent trail to begin with.
With a sigh, the little cub gazed back towards the den. He never wanders too far. Not without one of his older brothers, at least.
Then Kiume had an idea. He could use his brothers to practice honing his hunting skills! With a sly grin, the cub prepared to take down his prey. He slid across the earth gracelessly, prowling after Pefe with his tail flicking at the air. "I'mma getchu, Pefe!"

Like his brother Kiume, Pefe was practicing his skills.
The young cheetah had been creeping through the vegetation since he woke up. The white patches on his pelt had been carefully smeared and darkened with dirt, leaves twined in here and there. The green and brown patches were already perfect for his purpose. If he was still and careful enough, they wouldn't spot him.
Pefe wasn't sure who they were, but they frequently liked to hide in the treetops. He was focused on the trees as he crawled along on his belly, moving like a snake from one bush to another, sure that this time he would creep up on them instead -
Kiume! Damn! Hopping along although they weren't in the middle of a war zone! "Get down!" Pefe hissed furiously.

Kiume was beginning to grasp the concept that shouting your victim's name before you attack is not the best idea in the world.
"Get down?" The dark cub briefly wondered why his brother was covered in dirt before gazing around with wide eyes. "What for?" Despite his skeptical behavior, Kiume quickly stumbled to his brother's side. Mostly for protection from him, but he wasn't about to admit that.
"What are you doing, Pefe? How come you're hiding?" Oblivious that he was drowning the other cub in questions, Kiume licked a smudge of grime from his brother's white muzzle. "You're dirty. Momma's gunna be mad."

Pefe narrowed his eyes, struggling to keep from shouting while his brother joined him with what seemed like painful slowness. It wasn't Kiume's fault he was a civilian. Pefe was pretty vague on the subject of how he himself had come to be a warrior while the rest of his family were ordinary folk, but he knew it to be true.
Pefe winced as his brother licked dirt off his nose. "It's for hiding!" He whispered, ignoring the question of why he was hiding and moving straight on to the question about his clever disguise. Pefe did not yet know the word 'camouflage'. "If you look like the ground, they can't see you! Have to blend in!" This was all said very quickly and very quietly. Pefe abruptly shut up, his eyes scanning around the area. He had thought he heard something ... but nope, all was quiet. None of those distant voices in the treetops. He relaxed a tiny smidgen of a fraction of an iota.
"Mama will have to understand," Pefe whispered. He squinted at his brother. "What're you doin' here anyways, Kiume?"

Kiume jerked away from grooming his brother as he explained, and quickly tilted his head. The more Kiume thought about the mud-camoflague, the more it made sense to him. That would have to mean that his pelt was more effective than his when it came to being stealthy... without the mud, anyway. At the thought of this, a wide grin spread across the little cheetah's face. There was one upside to having a dark coat.
"I was looking for this thing I saw moving in the bushes. It looked like it could have been another cub like us, but it was too fast and I lost it." Kiume mused at the thought of befriending another cheetah cub. It was an exciting thought... to have a fourth brother. That would be so awesome! But it would never happen if he couldn't keep up with the thing. But knowing him and his lack of grace... that wasn't going to happen in the near future.
"Hey, Pefe! Maybe you could help me!" The cub hopped to his paws, completely forgetting that they were supposed to be stealthy. "And... and then we can roll in the mud and hide on the ground together!"
