This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [audio fiend] and SiMa Li [Chrystali]

Setting:

While sparring with some of his boatmates down at the docks, Sakn finds himself meeting a rather interesting girl named SiMa Li.

The sun was making its pass down into the horizon, marking the end of a good day and the beginning of a pleasant evening. Crowds of people milled about the docks in the light of the orange sun; in a few hours they would all be gone and the docks would become a much darker place. But for now, there was laughter and loud ruckus.

A certain crowd of lunarians were circling together like happy dogs, barking out bets and waving cash in the air as two men circled each other in the ring. While an outsider might fear the fight was serious, the crowd knew otherwise. Some yelled out for the squat, stocky man with seaweed hair and grey eyes, cheering him on because of his muscles and older age. Others cried out for the younger redhead, because of the way he moved and his spurts of strength.

"Twenty on Sakngea!" one man cried from the crowd, while another added to the bet, and then another.

The redhead, Sakngea, grinned as he heard the cheers and jeers. His father had stayed at home today to do book-keeping with his wife, and Sakngea had taken the chance to do some friendly betting and sparring with his crew mates while the parents were away. He had already won one fight against Cam Quyen(a lanky man with shockingly orange hair), and was pumped to fight.

The first swing knocked him back into reality, though, and Sakn stumbled back as his jaw groaned. Yuda, his opponent, grinned when Sakn glared at him. "Y'gotta pay attention, boy!" the green-haired man taunted, though he nearly choked on his words when Sakn's fist connected with the side of his head.

"HA! Mahbe y'sh'uld take y'ur own advice!" Sakn returned before spitting to his left. Yuda grinned madly then, coming in for another swing, which Sakn managed to awkwardly dodge. It was obvious to anyone that the redhead was untrained and fought with his instinct and gut, not with learned skills.

People who walked passed eyed the obnoxiously loud crowd before hurrying along. No one wanted to find out if the fight was serious or not. Not with the war dancing at their doorsteps each night. Best to ignore such things.

"Come on, Sakn! Knock'm out!"
"Yuda, don'y'make me lose m'money!"
"Yeah! Hit'm again, boy! Don'back out now!"

The first thing she heard when her feet touched the dock was the whoop of battle.

Li settled her weight on the rickety wood, turning her bright eyes towards the source of the commotion as she tried to get her bearings; acclimating from sea-legs to land was never the quickest or easiest transition for the boat loving femme, more out of stubbornness than inability to adapt. As the other fisherman disembarked behind her, casting only briefly curious looks - some more knowing than others - she drew in a deep breath of the salty air and smiled over her shoulder to one of the dock-hands that had paused behind her. "Is it normal for everyone to fight here?"

The male behind her snorted, concealing laughter. "Yer one t'ask."

She chuckled quietly as she was pat on the shoulder, her own scuffle that landed her in the water still fresh in her mind. Her interest piqued, Li ambled off the wavering dock and made her way around the circle of spectators, sliding through the tight-knit group with a little jostling and press of elbows. A good-natured grin formed as she finally made it to the front lines, looking briefly between the man of seaweed hair and the red-head, neither of which were familiar. After a few more swings between the two, she leaned on one of the cheering males at her side, keen eyes watching each throw of weight and step of foot. The red-head seemed to have a bit of a reckless way with his movement, but there was something raw and powerful behind each jab that made Li feel that she wasn't watching another dockside brawl.

"Throw your fist straight after the hook, Red!" she called with the jeers and cheers, grinning while caught up in the exuberance of the fight. "Keep your legs bent!" It was easy to lose her voice amongst the cries, but then again, she was one of the only females actively shouting along with the masculine group. Li tilted her head back and lent her voice to the upward shouts of encouragement, enjoying being a spectator for a change and not being one of the brawlers.

The jeers and taunts; caws and caterwauling often times confuse and frighten younger brawlers, but it was obvious from the glow on his face and the toothy smile that Sakngea was eating it up. This was where he loved to be, it was too obvious. He teased and taunted right along side the crowd, laughing even when Yuda hooked his jaw, or when the man hit him square in the stomach.

The redhead just shook it off and jumped back it. It was like the crowds energy renewed him.

And so Sakn was enjoying his fight when a particular voice broke out from the rest. Someone was actually offering advice. The redhead ducked Yuda's fist, eyes scanning the crowd for who ever that person was. He missed her at first, but it was quiet obvious when he noticed that the person who had been yelling was the only girl in the crowd. He grinned at her before doing something he wouldn't usually do.

Sakngea listened. He ducked as Yuda swung again, then swung in, hitting the other man when his guard was down. There was a crack as the green-haired man stumbled back, jaw clasped in a hand. He tried to talk then, but winced and instead raised a hand; accepting defeat.

The crowd roared and people handed out money to winners and collected from losers. People grouped around Yuda as the man left, and others patted Sakn's shoulder before leaving. And slowly the crowd dispersed and the redhead was glancing around. Had the light-haired girl left already?

"Damn," he groused, not seeing her in the thinning crowd of people. He had wanted to say something to her. He wasn't sure what, but he wanted to say something, dammit.

Li whooped along with the crowd, throwing a fist into the air and cheering when the hit landed - earning a slight wince of sympathy, but a brawl was a brawl, and it seemed the punch that sounded like thunder had ended it. The female glanced around to the groups as money was exchanged, still donning her bemused smile; it was an interesting life to lead, being a source of entertainment and strength. While the red-head had seemed no stranger to being the center of attention, it seemed he wasn't exactly a dead-ringer for winning all the time. It was a shame, she thought, to see so much power and drive without aim.

As the group began to disperse, she waded through those dispersing and settled out of the way as they congratulated the red-head and the opposition departed, observing. She didn't know the guy but she, being something of a brawler herself thanks to her life less ordinary, wanted to send her own well wishes to him. Li's foundation of growth had always been encouragement when losing and congratulatory when winning, a build up for something better, a promise that she would get better.

Noting that he seemed to be looking for something, she decided to take the moment to say her piece and let him be, uncrossing her arms and crossing the foot-packed area to stand just slightly behind him, stepping next to his side. "You have a remarkable swing," she said kindly, offering a polite smile. "Very well done."

The crowd was now completely gone, and Sakn was just about to leave, his hopes of finding that girl completely destroyed, when a voice sounded from behind him. The redhead would deny later that he jumped at that moment, but it would be a lie. His whole body tensed, and he jerked violently, twisting around only to find himself staring into a pair of approving purple eyes.

"Lissin' miss, I dun' really need any of d'attention y'co--" Sakn quickly stopped what he was saying, because he realized those were not the eyes of a harlot, nor was her clothing revealing or even slightly sexual. They were fighters clothing, and those eyes were trained, determined; not floozy and playful.

It took him only a moment, then, to realize this was the lass who had advised him during the fight, and when the realization dawned on Sakn, his face split into a lightly embarrassed grin. A grin that turned dumb proud with her compliment. The boy scratched his cheek as a small blush covered his cheeks, quickly filling the silence before she realized how he had nearly addressed her earlier, "Heh! Thanks, I s'pose. Wussa pretty darn good hit, I'do agree," it was obvious by now that the redhead had an ego.

He then paused in his mental gloating, and gave the girl before him a quick look over. "I s'pose I sh'ud say thanks fur d'advice earlier," of course, not that he had needed because he knew what he was doing all along!, "Uh, D'names Sakngea, jus' Sakn'll do, though," the redhead offered a hand then and smiled again, "An' you, lady? Y'gotta name? Or sh'ud I cawl y'master of the fists?" it was meant to be a joke, but as soon as he said it, Sakn wondered if the light-haired woman would take it that way.

Or as an insult.

Pale brows lifted at the immediate response she garnered from the red-head, surprise warming her violet gaze. The moment of realization and the silence between was stark, but the embarrassed grin did well to wipe away any insult the woman could have taken -- which would have been very little. Li laughed then, a soft, understated sound beneath a small but bemused smile. She wasn't sure she'd ever seen a brawler blush over a compliment before, but it was endearing, the red exacerbated by the color of his hair. Charming!

"Admirable hit," Li agreed, finding the ego more suiting to the mantle of the fighter than the blush, though that both existed in one was most intriguing. The pause and offered thanks made her tilt her head to the side, looking at the red-head with keen but quizzical eyes. "I hardly think someone like you needs to be told how to swing their first," she responded by way of gentle dismissal, not about to take credit for the success of the brawler, "and it's as the saying goes -- you can bring a sword to battle but you can't make someone use it. It's in you...Sakn."

Taking the offered hand, she gave the red-head a firm shake, idly feeling the callouses on his hand that marked him as a fighter. It was good, then, that he was as comfortable in battle as he appeared to be. "SiMa Li, and Lunaria help me, if you call me anything but Li I will start another brawl right here, right now." Li grinned to take the threat out of her words, her tone light-hearted but not entirely joking. Titles, nicknames, reputation...she was Li, warrior to Lunaria, nothing more but proudly nothing less. "Besides, fists aren't the only weapons in the arsenal, Sakn." She lifted her free hand long enough to teasingly pat him on the cheek before releasing the hand she had shaken and twining her fingers behind her back.

"You're a warrior, I can see that, anyone can." Light brows again arched beneath the curve of her equally pale bangs. "What style of fighting do you use? You're powerful in your swings but you look like you're aiming for a bullseye on a moving target." Li briefly hoped that she wasn't being the insulting one this time, looking politely at Sakn with calm appraisal. No one improved with sugar-coated words and no improvement, after all.
