Silen was riding a cloud elephant through a fountain of computer microchips when an obnoxious shrill sound cut through her illusion's. She tried to shut the bloody thing out through sheer force of will but it was not to be and the elephant evaporation as she jerked into the world of the living. Al through leery eyed and about as coordinated as a lion on a unicycle 'living' might have been too strong of a word.
What the hell was the time? Her eyes (still struggling to focus) twitched to the illuminated red numbers on her digital clock. 5am. Someone had a death wish. Slowly becoming more aware of her surroundings she grabbed at her cell on the side and flipped it up, she had full intended to give the asshat on the other end a piece of her mind but it came out as more of a feral growl. "Miss Nicholes." a voice squeaked at the other end, so timidly she almost felt bad for the growl...almost. "Miss Nicholes I am calling to inform you we need you to bring your child..Taren down to the D-corp lab right away." Silen had now pushed herself up into a rough sitting position "why?" she demanded "It's my pleasure to inform you that your adopted childs dragon is ready to hatch." At 5 bloody am...really? Just her luck she guessed. Half of her still begging her to slam the phone down or at least press the disconnect button she knew she didn't have much choice and promised to be there.
Taren was dreaming of eating glowing mushrooms in a glass house that were slowly making him exude his own luminescent colouring when he was roughly shaken awake,"ugh." he rolled over and blinked up with beady little eyes, although it was his nose that confirmed the identity of his unwanted alarm clock "Mum?" he groaned yawning and reaching out for his specs. "What time is it? Is something wron..dbkhdkja!" he made an odd vocal flailing noise as some of the clothes that were already being tossed at him hit his face. What was the big rush? "Tarrie, your dragon is hatching the techs say we need to be there now." He mother informed him with a smile although he was sure she was looking at his bed longingly for a minute and not him. As soon as he heard that his eyes went even wider behind the magnifying lens and despite the early hour he was full awake in seconds.
He started yanking on clothing so fast he would have several more holes to show for it from the careless application of his claws but it didn't matter. He slipped on shoes, ignoring the need for socks and tugged his mother forcefully to the front door. Both looked true to what they were, like thay had both just gotten out of bed, Tarne's hair stuck out in cow-licks and off angels while his mothers braid was coming undone and her eyes were rigged with dark circles, made more obvious by the poor women's harried expression. "come on mum, we have to hurry." the mole boy demanded as they both raced to the D-corp incubation room, Taren's perfect memory guiding them through mazes of hallways and corridors even in the semi- dark.
However as they reached the fateful door that lead to his future Taren came to a stop and suddenly reached out for his mother. Looking at the imposing metal barrier suddenly he wasn't quite overenthusiastic. What' more he was awake enough to realise his future life partner breaking out of its shell inside had claws and teeth and well..what if it didn't like him? He felt a reassuring squeeze against the soft part of his spade like hands and looked up. "Whats wrong sweetie. I thought you wanted to see your dragon." Taren squeezed back and took a step back his breath hitching. "But what if it all goes wrong? Wh..what if the dragon hates me? What if..." he paused and had to catch his breath he was almost hyperventilation. Silen quickly knelt and put tired heavy arms around her boy in a hug. "Then I am right here with you Taren and trust me, me and the techs will do everything in our power to make sure it doesn't go wrong."
Taren looked unconvinced and wriggled in her "I hate the techs." he told her and his mother smiled tiredly "I know but I'll be right here, promise." she told him, eventually seeing the nod of his head she pressed the door to go into the incubation chamber and the pair walked inside.

It was one of the very few days that Kanth actually felt better, though her gait was slow in arriving upon the building. Holding onto her wrist was her youngest girl, Altessa, her tail swishing back and forth as she glanced at the doors, eyes darting to Kanth for a quick moment, both with annoyance and worry.
Kanth opened the doors slowly, shaking her head and pushing her silver-red bangs from her face, pushing Altessa gently inside with her hand on the small of Altessa's back. She gave her daughter a wan smile, her hand sliding up to squeeze Altessa's shoulder as they walked towards the room.
"I..." Altessa murmured softly, lips pursing together as she saw the mole boy, stopping her words altogether. New people were always raw to her, people she didn't want to get to know; Cleo and Tyven were an exception to the rule.
Well. At least this one didn't have wings. But he looked... wary.
And so was she.
