I found a webite last night (can't remember what it was called) that said " in several ST novels featuring the character or Dr. McCoy it was revealed that the H stands for Horatio. but it was never mentioned on screen". so i don't know if thats official.

It's supposed to be Leonard Horatio McCoy. Though I read an ST Rihannsu book where he was called Leonard Edward McCoy.

His name is Horatio? Wow... That doesn't sound like a name that would suit his heritage.

It was never CANONICALLY established as "Horatio." However, it appears in several novelizations of ST movies. So, it is likely it will be made official at some point.
Then again, they had to do a little dance when they forgot William T, Riker's middle name. "Thomas" was the OFFICIAL name-shown in ST:TNG. "Thelonius" was in one of the books. And one book claimed he had 2 middle names, "Thomas Thelonius". That will probably be glossed over in the hopes we all forget about it.
