This prompt is the big group activity for the week. Everyone is encouraged to throw a pet - or more than one - into the fray. The more, the merrier! There will only be one of these each week, led by Lumi.

Posts will go in this thread, after Lumi gets things rolling. There'll be a new thread each week.

This week's prompt

The Park Ranger has declared this week "Clean Up The Reserve" week. Everyone is expected to pitch in and help keep the reserve beautiful. Of course, not everyone sees the value of tidiness - especially in the woods. And some people just don't see the point of helping.

Does your otter/character help or hurt the cleaning efforts? What tasks does he take on? What mischief does she get up to?

Early in the morning, the ranger drove her jeep across the reserve, with a bunch of posters and buckets full of cleaning equipment. Every now and then, she stopped in front of a particularly broad tree, or a piece of broken-down fence, or a boulder, to paste up one of the posters and leave a bucket of supplies.

The posters all had the same message:

Quote:
Greetings, reserve residents!

Are you tired of dust and grime? Are you ready for a more orderly reserve?
Well, you're in luck.
This week will be our first annual reserve clean up. And since we all live here (and I know you guys can read...), I know we'll all want to chip in.

Please make use of these cleaning supplies, find something dirty, and get to work.

If you need more supplies, I'll have them available at the ranger station.

Let's get cracking, everyone! GO TEAM!

If there was anything Speed was lucky to know was to how to read human words! His owner before he came to the reserve taught him, and even how to write, though it was sloppy most of the time and not legible. So the male was quite excited to see the sign on a tree one day, because if helping to clean the reserve up got him into the Rangers good graces, she just might forget about him blowing up her last jeep! He ran off towards the cabin, ready to clean.

Opheliac hummed happily as she left her clearing to help clean up the reserve. It was a lovely day and she knew that nothing could go wrong. She'd taken precautions this time. by securely locking the minis in the den- after all, they were good at the opposite of cleaning. They were good at messes. And while she loved them dearly, she didn't want to let them anywhere near the cleaning supplies. Something bad would happen. Instead of letting that occur, though, she was going to take a day off from watching them and help clean. She figured that she could rake some leaves near the ranger's cabin and maybe clean up where the river overflowed last year. It was awfully muddy down in the flats. But first, leaves. Carrying the rake that had been left near her den, she made her way to the cabin. Another otter was there already, a male. But he didn't seem to be doing anything in particular yet, so waving to him in greeting, she pulled herself up onto her hind legs and began to clean.

It was Flora's fault. At least that's what Merryweather thought to herself as she muttered mutinously behind Aurora and little Rosebud (who probably couldn't be called "little" by a squirrel). It did always seem to fall on the youngest of the fairies to do anything associated with cleaning. Housework was too much for little-miss-loves-pink.

Needless to say, Flora had used the opportunity to say that she needed to find fabric to make Rosebud dresses and then dragged Fauna with her (who hadn't look at all unhappy about it). Oh how she hated to be the youngest sometimes. She was already planning something, not that she quite knew what, that the eldest would find out about and hopefully have a conniption over!

Unknowing to the fairy's devious thoughts, the two otters were in search of something to clean. Hopefully something that wouldn't tempt the younger of the two into playing (as much). After a fair bit of walking, they'd settled on cleaning and painting a patch of fencing that either Merryweather or some wandering stranger would fix up as they went along. It was situated in sight of the ranger's station which would make getting more supplies easy.

Angelus took a long draw off half a cigarette he had found on the edges of the oasis and eyed the poster with narrowed eyes. Order? Cleaning? Was that ranger getting denser? They weren't her personal slaves, she was theirs! He lifted his cigarette and put it out on the sign smearing the soot into some nasty words. F**K YOU!

He took the cleaning supplies and dragged them into the darkness before setting about another wicked misdeed. He took apart the cleaning supplies until he had handles, rags, and grinned at a few flammable cleaning materials. Yes this would do nicely, very nicely! He began by tying one of the rags and stuffing it with leaves until it resembled a head. Grinning he used some dirt to smear a face onto the 'head'. He quickly tied a few more rags together and started to stuff them into a body like shape. Angelus was a bit more lewd with the Rangers actual chest proportions, but really what could one expect from such a wicked creature? He finished assembling the faux ranger and tied it to the long handle of a broom. Hmm...it was missing something...AHA! A hat! Hmm...but a rangers hat would only be in the ranger station. Grinning he sat down and finished mixing some cleaning agents and placing rags in the tops of the bottles. He swung the broom handle over his shoulder and jauntily dragged his bucket along with him. He certainly looked like he was going to do some...cleaning...but the stuffed ranger dangling as if from a noose behind him made one wonder exactly what kind of cleaning he planned.

Ariel lived in the oasis water ways, in the lakes, and rivers, she was bound to the water and finding interesting trinkets was fun...but finding trash and grime wasn't. She liked crystal clear waters, she liked it when she opened a clam and found tasty meat or a pretty pearl inside...not greasy garbage. When she spotted one of the posters from the water she smiled and put her paws together. That seemed like a lovely idea, cleaning up their home, helping the ranger, and making everything nicer for everyone! She pulled herself out of the water and dragged herself over to the bucket that had been left. She quickly reached inside to grab some rags and brushes as well as some liquid soap. She seal dragged herself back to the water and flopped in quickly gulping the water in like air and relaxing. She swam back up to the surface and started to swim towards one of the mossy boulders, it was growing some kind of fungus.

Ariel squirted some soap onto it and began to scrub with vigor, ah cleaning it was so theraputic. She eyed the sun's position and hoped soon it would be dusky enough for Will to come over and lend her a paw. Ariel squirted some more soap on the boulder not realizing how sudsy the water was starting to get...like one giant bubble bath...

"Yes, a good cleaning is just what this place needs...." Damshe Ralke mumbled thoughtfully to himself as he analyzed one of the posters. "I can't stand garbage and filth in a nature reserve... Doesn't do well for the otters.... or my sketches."

Grabbing a bucket of supplies from nearby, Damshe set off down the trail to consider where his assistance would be needed. It wasn't long before he realized that the particular trail he was on was a garbage man's paradise.

Old tires, cigarette butts, potato chip bags, and all the like lined the sides of the trail like landscaping in a garden. Except, it was obviously not as pleasant to look at.

Damshe paused and surveyed the damage, rubbing his whiskered chin in consideration.

"Yeah, this is it..." he finally said. "I'll start here. This trail looks like a tailgate party ran through it... If they ever show up again, I'll give'em a good, hard lesson."

Dipping a hand into the bucket, Damshe rummaged about for some garbage bags. Unfortunately, this particular bucket seemed to be missing them.

Damshe considered heading for the Ranger's Station but squelched the idea. The walk would waste time that could be spent cleaning. Besides, he had an idea of how to get rid of the garbage easily. He'd incinerate it.

And so he began, walking along the trail, bending down to retrieve some rubbish, and burning it to ash with a touch of his hand. Hopefully, the job would not be too much trouble.

Speed was busy cleaning the jeep in front of the rangers cabin. You couldn't have a good ride without it being cleaned first, so that is what he was starting with first! Seeing the female come closer, he waved, but went back to soaping up the sponge in his paws and then hopping onto the hood of the jeep, wiping at it with the soapy water.

Having progressed halfway up the trail, Damshe had incinerated a good several pounds of garbage... and he still seemed to have several more pounds to go.

"People can really be pathetic sometimes," he sighed as he burned an old pair of sneakers. "They're just too lazy to throw their trash away... Guess that's why people like me are around... To clean up their messes for the sake of us all!"

Amidst his cleaning, some movement caught his eye. Floating slowly past him was what appeared to be a small bubble. Damshe touched it delicately with one finger and it popped. He sniffed the residue it had left on his hand. Soap...

Turning about, Damshe soon spotted more bubbles blowing his way. Now, this was puzzling... Where had all of these come from?

Damshe decided to find out. Walking off of the trail and in the direction from which the bubbles came, he set off at a deliberate pace. Far up ahead, a white mass was growing in his line of sight.

"What in the world?" he wondered, frowning in puzzlement.

He soon found out what the mass was. Some body of water had apparently gotten a load of the soap from somebody else's supplies. What they had now was probably the world's largest bubble bath. Question was: Who had done it?

Damshe peered across the body of water, but could make out no one amid the collossal suds. Cupping his hands around his mouth, he gave a shout.

"HELLO OUT THERE! IS ANYBODY AROUND HERE?!"

Ariel was a bit...worried now what had original been a little soapy sudsy water from her super rock cleaning operation had become a wild bubbly mess of it's own. She was frantically using her tail to scoop up bubbled and fling them into the dry ground where they slowly popped and fizzled away. Except as she moved she churned up even more bubbles and the soapy water was sort of hard for her to breathe. Instead she was breathing plain old air which was starting to make her throat hurt a bit.

She stopped as she heard a sudden shout and poked her head up nervously. What was that? Was that another otter? She lifted her head a bit more hr wild red hair now visible even though she was surrounded by white suds.

"Hello?" She answered back though much softer then the shout.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 10, 2010 9:46 pm

Damshe saw an otter with red hair poke her head out of the mass of suds and give a small call. Perhaps she had something to do with the suds? In any case, she looked worried about the situation she was in....

"I'd better give her a hand," Damshe said to himself. "Who knows what affect soap bubbles have on otters?"

But before he attempted to make his way towards her, he'd better get her attention first so that she could see who he was.

"OVER HERE! I'M OVER HERE! JUST STAY WHERE YOU ARE AND I'LL BE RIGHT OVER TO HELP!"

Having done that, Damshe set aside the cleaning supplies, took off his leather jacket, and plunged into the water. Upon surfacing, he found himself coughing up alot of soap bubbles. It was no wonder the otter looked worried. You could suffocate trying to swim through this stuff!

Luckily for Damshe, he had a high lung capacity and a decent swimming technique. Holding his breath, he used powerful strokes to make his way over to the distressed otter. Hopefully, she wouldn't be shocked by his approach and flee. He was in this whole business to help, not to frighten.

With a wand, it hadn't taken long for the fairy to fix the fence and she was becoming increasingly bored. She'd fluttered around looking for something else to undertake and turned a few leaves blue, but it wasn't so fun unless it bothered someone. Even without her high-strung red loving sister about, her fun was ruined.

She gave a giggle and turned the white paint to beautiful blue.

"Merryweather!"

"What?" she snapped her head up, the picture of surprise--she'd long ago given up on looking innocent.

"I don't think the Ranger wants a blue fence," Aurora stated, trying not to giggle like Rosebud was.

"But white is so bland, dear. Blue is a much better color, and it's such a lovely shade," Merryweather smiled, why it matched Aurora's dress perfectly!

"Change it back, please? There are plenty of other things to change," the princess compromised. She gave a nod in thanks when the fairy complied and wasn't at all surprised when the squirrel became a small glowing blue ball and began to fly off.

Rosebud wasn't doing much better than Merryweather in staving off boredom. She'd painted her (and Aurora's, not that anyone had noticed yet) dress more than the fence--she'd even painted a flower on her tail. She gave a few looks around and then decided as long as Aurora could turn around to see her, all would be well. She dropped her paint brush and dashed off, giggling when Aurora told her not to go too far, wondering who she should approach.

Merryweather on the other hand had flown into the Ranger's station and turned the entire kitchen blue. She perched on a windowsill and wondered what or rather who she could tease next. While turning things blue was fun it was hardly her only trick.

Angelus whistleed to himself until he reached the ranger station, he stopped infront and then dug a bit in the earth. He pushed the broom handle into the whole and mounded some dirt up around it. Ahh perfect, now the ranger hung on the broom handle like some twisted scarecrow. He leapt up and heaved himself onto a windowsill with his claws marking furrows into the building. He turned around and used his hind legs to kick the window, his thick boots managed to crack it and he smirked at the tinkling sound of falling glass.

The wicked vampire quickly leapt through the window and he shook off, good thing it was overcast, still the daytime was making him feel a tad woozy. He blinked and tilted his head, was the Ranger's kitchen blue? Maybe he was hungry or something, his head must be off. Hmm...well he was here for a hat and nothing else...today. He leapt onto a nearby shelf and started to look around for a hatrack.

Ariel heard the yelling, something about help? Oh good someone was coming to help! She really needed it because things had quickly gotten out of hand! Then her eyes went wide and she dove under the water her heart thudding wildly. What WAS That?! It was big! Bigger then predators! Bigger then demonics! It was BIG! She took a deep breath the water further down seemed less soapy but still a bit tainted. She looked up at the shadow on the water, a very large shadow and...legs...two legs.

Oh goodness it was a...a...what were they called again? Oh yes! Hoo-man! It was a hooman and it had told her it was going to help. She was still uncertain though, should she surface and try and communicate with it? Was it dangerous like a predator or was it safe and friendly? She wrung her paws nervously, but slowly her curiosity got the best of her. She slowly swam back up her hair parting the water infront of the human.

"Hello hooman! Did you say you could help? I didn't mean to do this you know, one minute I was cleaning and then POOF all this white stuff! It's awful!" She gestured to the bubbles. Sadly for Ariel humans and otters really hadn't been able to achieve anything past written communication.
