And time continued to crawl by for the broken-armed senshi. He'd never noticed just how slow days could pass on by when he had little left to fill those 24 hours, and he was throughtfully sick of sleeping. That had gotten old quite some time ago.
Instead, now he watched TV, though zapping from channel to channel revealed little of true interest. The news were avoided, especially the local station - the last thing he needed to be reminded was of how many youma actually lurked the streets. He'd stopped beating himself up mentally, sure, but that didn't mean he wouldn't rather be blowing those monsters up rather than fuse with his couch.
Funny how those things actually worked.

"Me me me meow!" a familiar voice sang from outside. Outside sat one cat, sitting attentively waiting for the door to open.
The explanation as to why the cat was sitting there was simple. She was hungry. And it was only logical that it was usually easier to beg for food at a place where someone familiar resided. There were many advantages to being a stray. It meant she traveled and learned many important locations. One day, she had noticed Xavier enter this residence as she was patrolling for Senshi.
And now that she was hungry, she decided to pay the residence a visit.
In an effort to make sure she was heard, she began to scratch slightly at the door.

Xavier might have not heard ********* had it not been for another kind of feline help.
Tempo could hear this strange cat right on the other side of the door. She could smell this strange cat, as well, and aparently wasn't too sure what to make of it.
And so, she started to meow in harmony.
"What's up, girlie ?" Xavier called out to his cat. She usually didn't meow without reason, like she seemed to be doing now. So he got up, made his way to the entrance, and opened the door.
There was no one on the other side.
Uh.

Even with a door in the way, ********* ears twitched as the sound of a real cat could be heard. Of course, being a guardian, she couldn't even remotely understand what the mewing translated into. Talking cat did not mean bilingual cat.
The door opened, and the manx remained seated on the ground in front of the door (fortunately out of the way of the door as it swung open).
Pale green eyes were looking up, but blue eyes were not looking down at her. This would not do at all. "I was not aware you had a pet cat." She could have stood up and slipped inside, but the manx, despite being a stray, did have manners. The cast upon his arm went unmentioned for now. The doorway was no place to have such a conversation.

Turns out it wasn't that there was no one there. No, the matter was very much that there was someone else, but that he wasn't looking down enough. The sound of the manx's voice finally made him look down. Oh.
Oh.
Oh, shi-
Of course, his mind immediately associated ********* presence with the fact that he had a broken arm and was officially doing jack s**t.
"Yeah." He finally answered her. Tempo peered at this strange other cat from behind Xavier's legs and sniffed at her direction.

The paler feline remained seated, but curiously tilted her head at the tuxedo cat. "Well, hello to you too, sweetie!" No, there was no mewing or cat sounds from the manx to the resident cat. What would be the point? Certainly, a guardian could fool a human, but a guardian could never fool a legitimate feline.
For a few moments, ********* eyes were focused on the other cat before she glanced up to the boy. "Now, are we just going to sit here and leave me talking on your front step, or are you going to invite me in?" Even for such an abrupt request to be invited in, the tailless cat still said it in such a friendly voice that it merely sounded like a joke.

Uh yeah, maybe that was a good idea. What if another of the residents walked in the hallway ? Normally no one left this late, but what if they did ? He certainly did not want to explain why the hell he was talking to a cat.
"Sorry." He answered, awkwardly. "Come on in. Tempo usually gets along with other cats." Though she'd never met a talking cat. At least he didn't think.
Tempo wasn't moving, and kept sniffing at ********* curiously - there was, however, no agressivity in her posture.

With permission obtained, the feline slipped in without any further hesitation. She nodded her head in greeting to the cat, but then proceeded to move towards the nearest piece of furniture. With what almost looked like a clumsy hop, she was on top of it in no time. Once more resting her haunches, she looked around some more.
"It's a nice place," she complimented. Her eyes continued to look around until they eventually managed to locate the boy's cast in all of her wanderings.
As if it was some sort of pleasant conversation, the feline asked "So, how did you break your arm, Xavier?" Her eyes were upon his and her ears perked up. Nobody could accuse ********* of not being a good listener.

"Thanks." He answered - it was a small apartment, but that was the place he called home. He could have definitively have had much worse to live in. The best thing was that he lived alone with his cat, so that they wouldn't need to worry about anyone walking onto a talking cat. Even if the other residents heard him, they would just think he'd invited a friend home.
"Well..." This was embarrassing. Very much so. "At the ball, when s**t hit the fan." That was a good enough answer, right ?

The cat's head nodded up and down one time, slowly. It was hard to translate the feline's current expression. Was it understanding, or perhaps it was something slightly more harsh? Whatever reason it was, ********* little maw wasn't exactly smiling at the moment.
"I see. I see." She leaned forward, as if trying to close the gap between boy and cat.
"Well, that is an occupational hazard." She nodded one more time, slow enough that the bell upon her collar didn't make a sound. Though ********* tone was still pleasant, it seemed drastically subdued. "You were at the masquerade then? Then you know about the crystal."
The crystal. It was all she said before there was a moment of silence from the usually talkative feline. The crystal had disappeared with the Negaverse. The crystal that she had to explain to Ellie and Lilith because neither girl had been present for such a drastic event. Neither girl understood how important it had been. In a sense, it was ********* own fault. At least, she had decided such.
After such a long (and most likely awkward pause), the green eyed cat resumed the conversation as if she hadn't even mentioned the crystal at all. "Well, do not be too concerned. I honestly broke my leg a while back. I had to wear a cast for 8 weeks." It was supposed to be 6 weeks, but Ellie had taken too long to get the manx back to a vet. "However, I was still able to do what needed to be done." Finally, there was a hint of a smile seeming to touch the manx's features.

Xavier sat at his table chair, as ********* had taken place onto said table, with Tempo quick to jump into her master's lap to curl in it. By all appearances, the feline was not too bothered by the present of this strange cat. She'd lived with other cats at the shelter, after all.
When she leaned forward, his left hand moved without much of a thought, so pet the top of her head. Would a talking cat find being petted insulting ? The thought only occurred to him after the deed was done.
"I saw it." He nodded. "And I saw... the lady." He had no who she was, beside the fact that she was important, beside the fact that he wanted to do little more but what she told him, to listen to her gentle voice.
Even now, he could hear her voice in his mind if he closed his eyes, if he wanted to hear it. He'd been unconscious when Serenity had made her final speech, but it had still burned its way into his memory. "I tried to get it... I swear I did." To who was he trying to justify that fact - *********, or himself ? "There was so much going on, my power was working against me, and then... then this other chick knocked me out and broke my arm." He sighed. He was still quite aware that he had failed pretty hard.
"Im supposed to be stuck in this for 6 weeks." He muttered, not too happy about that fact.

A hand approached her head, and the pale cat leaned into the touch quite easily. She let out a soft purring sound. She might have been able to talk and guide the senshi she met, but she was still a cat. A cat who loved to be loved.
"Six weeks isn't too bad, especially since you can go to the doctor yourself to get the cast removed." The difference between a cat injury and a human injury was simply the fact that the human could take care of things still, where as the cat was essentially bedridden. "You are still able to walk around. I had to get carried around." She nodded her head before seeming to enthusiastically push her head back into Xavier's petting reach. She even lifted her maw slightly and gave the boy's fingers a light scratchy lick.
"I understand you tried." Another gentle lick, as if she was trying to reassure the boy. "Our lady... she has faith in us." The cat's eyes fell upon the boy's blue ones again. "She has faith that we will always try our hardest."

It was a little odd, having an actual conversation to something so definitively feline. Sure, he talked to Tempo all the time, but it wasn't like she talked back to him !
He continued to pet her, since she seemed to enjoy it. "I bet... if that happens again, though, I can help ?" He could always drop at Tempo's vet and pretend ********* was a friend's cat, or something.
"It's just a little weird, I've never broke anything before. And im right handed, so I can't do a whole lot beside walk !"
He continued to pet, his hand moving to scratch lightly under her skin. "....But if our best is not enough... then what ?"

"You are least are able to walk around." There had been many things that ********* couldn't do. If it wasn't for the fact she could change into another form, she might have been in real trouble.
The manx seemed to smile more as the boy continued to spoil her with attention. If only Ellie could understand this really wasn't so difficult to do. Really, it wasn't. "If our best is not good enough, then we continue to push ourselves until our best becomes good enough."
With that gentle reassurance, the tailless feline stood up and padded back slightly. "Now, onto serious business!" For supposedly moving onto serious business, ********* smile seemed a bit too big.
"Tell me, what's for dinner?!"

"I guess that's a valid answer." He hadn't seen it that way. It made sense... They had to keep on doing what they did, and get better at it. With time. With practice.
What if they didn't have that time, through ?
Before he could keep on that train of thought, ********* announced this was now moving into serious territory. Uh oh. This could be bad.
Except it wasn't, and he just laughed. "I was going to be lazy and order pizza." He admitted. "Though that probably won't do with company over, hmm ? Ill have to look at to what's in the fridge. What do you like ?"
It would probably have been easier to ask 'what don't you like ?' Either way, it kind of was a trick question.
