they bug me, just because you wear a dress once a year, doesn't make you a lolita,
Lolita is a lifestyle, not just clothes

Where does it imply that a girl who wears a dress once a year is trying to be lolita? I know plenty of girls who don't wear dresses very often, but when they do, it's because they want to look nicer and more formal, not because they want to be lolita. Unless they put on a frilly dress and scream "hey look at me, I'm a lolita" when they're not, there's nothing wrong with putting on a dress once a year.

█ I disagree. You don't have to wear lolita every day of your life, to "be a lolita."
I dislike the fact that people think in order to wear lolita you have to have a 'lolita lifestyle' because it IS just a clothing style.

I agree with this. I mean, it isn't like everyone is going to be able to dress in perfect lolita 100% of the time. For example, I imagine school uniforms in Japan get in the way of that. As well as wearing appropriate clothing for work, etc.
Personally, I like the idea of a "lolita lifestyle". But I feel like that should be personal choice rather than a requirement.

lolita is not a type of person, it is a fashion. i don't believe in "lifestyle lolitas." that's so stupid. a person can act elegant and enjoy crafts and music as hobbies, and love to have tea partys and the like weather they are wearing lolita clothing, aristocrat, cyber, gyaru, prep clothing, or no clothing at all. it's called having certain likes and dislikes. all though all the above mentioned are my hobbies and likes, and i wear lolita clothing at least once a week as a part of my daily wear, i do not consider myself a lifstylist. I consiter myself to be doing what i like, despite what i wear.

Hmm.. I feel the opposite about that, lolita is clothes. People shouldn't make such a big deal about that IMO.

It really isn't like that. There are the girls who wear it for fun and then there's the lifestyle Lolitas. You don't have to make Lolita your lifestyle if you don't want to. Simple as that.

While I do wear Lolita almost every day, lolita isn't my identity. Lolita is a style of clothing. What I don't like is when people call women's clothes costumes. I don't wear it to look like an anime character. I wear Lolita because I like the aesthetic. I'm not trying to hate on cosplayers either. I think that cosplayers can be totally awesome! I just don't like comparing Lolita to cosplay because despite it having some origins in cosplay it has since evolved.

I dont wear lolita everyday because I cant afford it and half the year the temperature here is like 90+ so i'd be dying sweaty lolitas aren't cute.
but I still like to wear it when I can, i even have my outfit for easter all planned out~ Even if I'm probably not a lolita in the hardcore sense, but I like shopping for lolita and designing it and wearing it and I feel comfortable in it, so I hope I fit some definition of the "lolita lifestyle"
but yeah, people who think lolita is cosplay/wearing a frilly cosplay makes it lolita, bug me more personally.

I think it's restrictive to box oneself in like that. If I want to wear mori girl style on Monday and Tuesday, wear a lolita outfit on Wednesday, jeans and a t-shirt on Thursday and a sundress on Friday, how is that a bad thing?
I was into the lifestyle lolita thing when I was in high school...to me, if I wasn't living "Princess Life" I was a poser. eventually I realized my personality didn't need to directly correlate with my clothing choices. For instance, I like to drink alcohol, something that a lot of people consider "not loli" but I'm not going to stop having a glass of wine or a martini on occasion just because it's not lolita, especially if I'm not even wearing lolita style that day to begin with.
fashion is art, and art is not created in a vacuum. allowing yourself to play with and experience other styles will not only expand your wardrobe and your skills for coordinating, but your tolerance for others and other ways of being will increase as well.
