User Image Maion had been enjoying his family life for a while now, the skinwalker attack seemed far behind them and everyone was once again happy. Mal was training as hard as ever, Io was perfecting her use of herds and ointments while Chandra was trying to become a midwife; and with two pregnant mares she had lots of material to practise with. New life always seemed to put him in a good mood and part of Maion was wondering when he and Sengdroma would once again be expecting, this time he wanted to do it right... to be there through it all and to help her with the baskets until they pop and then afterwards with the foals. He still regretted what happened last time, if only he had known she had been with child he would never have asked Sofiel to train her... yes, he was simply trying to make her dreams come true since he couldn't train her himself in fear of hurting her... but still! She had believed he had abandoned him, had his fun and left her without a care for anyone but himself, how wrong she had been. He could still remember visiting Sofiel every night, catching glimpses of her working out and training, but never a hint of children. Maybe he simply wasn't looking for it, in those horrible months away from her all that seemed to matter to him was Sengdroma.

Yet, as he took a short walk to clear his help he found himself once again wanting to give her more. The impossible question -what do you give a mare who claims to have everything she ever wanted and more? He had brought the rare Moon Flower down from the mountain and planted it around their lake so she could see it every day. They had formed a herd together, saved others from dangers that had threatened to wipe them from exsistance. They had made a family, the Miakoda herd was just that, a family. For each and every member Maion would willingly lay down his life to protect them, he would never ask them to do something he wouldn't willing do himself and he always made decisions as their joint leader that he felt would benefit them all in the long run. To be a leader was to be selfless most of the time, but Maion was feeling the urge to have more children.

He started walking towards the forest and then changed his mind at the last miniute and headed towards the cliff overlooking the Ocean. He was the Angenicorn of the Ocean, and although he no longer lived in a cave overlooking it he still felt the pull of it as clearly as the waves felt the pull of Moon. He would forever be a part of the Ocean and it him.

The breeze was cooling on his pelt, a tingle of pleasure, Maion had always found such peace in the wind, in nature. There was always something calming in being reminded that there was a force so much larger than one individual, fate.... Maion was a great believer of fate.

The joy of taking a youthful, feisty foal under her guard was endlessly rewarding, and yet at the same time it left a woman worn and drained of energy. Keeping up with her new adopted son was a handful but Maisie was willing to take the restless nights and napless days just to see Cobb's precious smile. When she had found him alone and parentless her heart yearned to take responsibility. She knew it would be a large task to place upon her shoulders but the satisfaction would be so much greater in the long run. Whenever the colt calls her mommy it brings such a light to her eyes, she could light up the room. Whenever he snuggled close to her at night it filled her with a sort of warmth that guaranteed she'd never grow cold again. Having a son must have been an underlying dream of hers because right now she felt as though she was living a fantasy life.

Maisie's good friend Ciel has yet to meet her 'son' and she isn't entirely sure of how he might look at her once he figures out what she had done. Would he think her careless and selfish. She knows deep down she should have looked around for Cobb's parents first off, but she couldn't bring herself to do so in fear that she might actually find them. It was wrong, but she'd live with the guilt. She'd keep it masked with her happiness. Ciel would respond in one of two ways. He would get upset and attempt to convince her to find Cobb's missing parents, or he'd be over joyed and want to assist her in this long and tedious process of raising a child. The purple striped mare would gladly allow him to help with the up bringing of her new little rocket of a foal. There was something about Ciel that was different from most. Usually Maisie found the jitters when she'd speak to males but Ciel was so easy to talk to. One of the few who she could run to in times of need.

The purple hued mare had been staring off the edge of the cliff for what felt like eternity. She didn't know what it was but something grounded her here. Maybe it was the need for a break, or the laziness of not wanting to move, but she had been here for hours none the less and all she had accomplished was staring at the moon. It was a cool night and the mist from the crashing waves below the cliff only made things that much colder. It would be smart to wander into the forest where the trees blocked out the breeze but like mentioned before, she couldn't bring herself to leave yet. A gentle sigh left her mouth as she ripped her gaze from the illuminating moon and let it land upon the waves far down below. She had to crane her neck to see out from one of the lower, narrow edges. "I suppose Cobb will be wanting to sleep soon. I should really be getting back..." she muttered to herself in a soft tone and turned to take her leave, but something prevented her from doing that.

The sight of a massive black stallion with goliath like wings caused her to freeze as solid as stone. Her heart pounded in her chest as she eyed the beastly sized male down the edge of the cliff. There was perhaps a hundred feet of gap between them but that was far to close for Maisie's comfort. However, it seemed as though the mysterious stranger was completely unaware of her presence. Maisie was the sort of mare who enjoyed smaller, more petite company. The smaller the person, the easier it was for her to make friends. Now, if you were larger than this timid mare it was the opposite for you. The bigger you were the more trouble it was to say hello. Due to her lack of orientation her hooves scrambled backwards so she could take her leave but because of her distracted mine she didn't realize she was backing away, towards the drop of the cliff. In a flash her back hooves dangled over the ledge as she tried to hold on but hooves aren't exactly a tool for grasping. She let out a distressed cry and plummeted downward. She thought for sure she would be meeting her death soon, but the next thing she knew she hit solid ground. She blinked a few times to regain all her consciousness and glanced up. She had actually only dropped a few yards down but this ledge was useless. No trails up and no trails down. She was stuck. "H-help! Please, somebody.... anybody?" she feared using that last word but her phobia of strangers would just have to be pushed aside for a moment if she wanted to get unstuck.

Maion had become so consumed by his own mind that he had neglected to check the area for other presences, he had learnt from experience that his size could shock many of the smaller inhabitance of the land, and when a cry of shock was realeased not to far from he Maion suddenly realised it was because of him. A quick look at their surroundings informed him that there was no one else around, just him and a mare that seemed to be as dark as the night itself in the dying light.

He had just been about to introduce himself and bow so that she could see he meant her no harm when she panicked and tried to escape backwards, "NO!" he cried, the desperate word sounding with a roar as his hooves and wings sprung into action. He spread them wide to gather all the available air to glide on as he jumped fearlessly after her. The Ocean lay below and if he had to he would use it to come to his aid and lift the poor mare from its icy depths. Maion didn't like using his power over the Ocean that often, as far as he was concerned it was a living entity that deserved to be treated with respect... but in an emergency he would overlook his own rule and make it up to the Ocean later on for his abuse.

Eyes scanning desperatly at the icy depths that had been that end to many a creature he didn't see the legde until the mares desperate cries for help reached his ears, they flicked and flapped in responce as his eyes darted to the cliffside. He let out a breath he hadn't realised he had been holding as he flew towards her.

Doing his best to appear none threatening he bowed his head, a move that left him vunderable to attack but he did not believe this mare would attack him. "Do not fear me." He said, gentiling his voice as much as he could muster. "My name is Maion, I am the Angeni of the Ocean." There was a time long ago where Maion had been proud of his title, showing it off time and time again like a knight wore shining armor, it wasn't until he met Sengdroma and started the Miakoda herd that he came to realise that the true shine of a knights armor came from his heart. Maion didn't need others to know who or what he was to truly be himself, he just needed to be true to his own beliefs. However, Maion had hoped his words would sooth the timid, nervous mare a little so that he could take her to safety, if after that she wished to run away from him so be it, but he would see her safe first. Even if she insulted him. Maion never failed at his duty, and in that moment his duty was to protect her.

He looked up to find they had not fallen too much, the mare was dainty and probably weighted about the same Chandra had before her wings had doubled in size. He could carry her... if she trusted him enough to. He could see no other way, he supposed he could summon a tower of Ocean water to rise up and carry her to the cliff top but that would be abusing his power, since in Maions eyes there was another option, and he never asked someone to do something he wasn't willing to do himself. "I am going to help you back up, but first... are you injured?" Maion didn't want the mare to feel any pain, and transporting someone who was injured was never fun for either party involved, although Maions healing magic was limited he had always been able to heal superficial wounds and take the sting off more serious ones until proper aid could be found. He had once healed Haishan Fai, now mate to Sengdroma's older sister, until a full blooded healer had arrived to compelete the deed. Many would say that Maion had saved the stallions life, but to Maion he had done his duty.

Duty. Honour. Respect. They where all connected. All valued.

After her short cries for help and mercy she glanced over her body, trying to find the source of where her pain was coming from. There was a shooting soreness somewhere and in her state of alarm she wasn't exactly able to pin point where it was coming from. You would think that one would be able to decipher the whereabouts of something that was causing them distress, but it was hard to do when your mind was still stuck on the straight drop down to the rocky tides of the ocean. Hearing a shuffle from above and a few pebbles hitting her pelt she glanced up to see a head peeking over the side, trying to eye her. She knew it had been the male from before because his white and black locks of hair dangled from the ledge, shining in the moonlight. She wasn't clear as to what she was feeling. It was a wicked mixture of relief and terror.

His body, as large as it was, managed to up and lift off the ground as his mighty wings kicked up a strong gust and he flew down to her ledge. There was hardly enough room for the both of them so she was forced to keep where she was laying upon the rocky flooring. It would be clear to any fool though that her body was trembling with nervousness and her desires to flee were strong. If only there was a place to flee to. There hadn't been a moment where he had given her a reason to be afraid. The slightest instance might have been when he shouted no at her, because of her fear of being yelled at, but she had been to busy falling to really be affected by it. Besides, her scream probably over powered his shouting.

With the sudden interest in her safety her eyes narrowed slightly, staring with a hint of disbelief in her expression. This man was not only coming to her aid to hopefully help her up over the side of the cliff but he was concerned with her well being after the fall? She took a moment to focus back on the annoying pain in her body and now, with a calmer mind, she found out where it was. Her side, more near her hips. She shifted her weight with a slight hiss and craned her neck back to see a bloodied gash. Her eyes scanned the ground and focused on a jagged rock that happened to be laced with her fresh blood. Figures she would be unlucky enough to land on one of the few rocks that were on this otherwise smooth ledge. "I... I'm fine... just a cut..." she struggled to get up on her feet, feeling the agonizing pain in her hips but clenched her jaw to keep back her cries. "You're here to get me down, Marion, Angeni of the Ocean?" she addressed him with respect, not wanting to show him the slightest bit of unkindness. Not that Maisie was capable of much menacing traits.

Maion kept as far back as he could, not wanting to make her fearful or upset any further than needed. He could smell the fresh irony taint of blood, he had smelt it many times before when he had once been a skinwalker hunter and had wandered upon his prey with freshly killed prey of their own. Seeing the blood and carnage had always been a trigger to his anger back them, and through the haze of hatred for what they had done to the innocent Maion had stuck them without mercy. He had lost track of how many he had slaughted, how ironic it was that it now appeared he was related to a skinwalker, even if only through adoption, but adoption or not Maion always stood by his family... and, slightly to his shame, had been known to save his sisters upon occassion.

Returning his thoughts to the matter at hand, he let out a gentle shhhhhh, the kind of sound that he usually reserved for his children and foals when they injured themselves. Although he feared it would startle the poor mare he leaned forward slightly, trying to possition his horn as close to the wound as he could without startling her further. Already he could feel the bubbling warmth of the healing magic as it trickled within his very blood before reaching his horn, it was always a pleasent feeling, and part of Maion believed it was that way because it was a power that could do no harm but only heal and help.

The magic left his horn and danced like sparkling lights around the wound, not everyone could see the healing magic of a unicorn but over the years Maion had become more and more accustommed to it.

In an attempt to brighten the poor mares spirits he ignored her mispronunication of his name and instead said, "I was thinking more up than down, but yes, I am here to aid you, if you will allow it." He gave her a gentle smile as he lifted his head back up, pulling his wings as tightly as he could manage to his sides in an effort to appear smaller to her. "Are you able to stand little one?" He asked, still smiling down at her.

He hated seeing mares injured and crying, he hated seeing them vunderable and afraid. In Maions opinion it was the job of those around each mare to ensure they where happy and protected, and although he knew he was responsibly not by his actions but due to his size he could not help but feel guilty for his lack of care. He would correct that before the night was up.

The hushed Shhh sounds that were spilling from Maion's lips kept Maisie's spirit calmed as the massive stallion tilted his head downward, aiming the tip of his majestic horn at her open wound. The idea of him pointing that frighteningly sharp weapon at her should have caused her to struggle back from him but she gentle coos that continued to leave his soft lips made her accept him. She leaned her head down, resting it on the smooth dirt she laid on and waited for either relief or suffering. Although, it never crossed her mind that if he wanted her to die he wouldn't have flown down here with such concern. She just happened to be one of those females who constantly thought everybody was out to get her. Poor creature rarely gave anybody a real chance, which was probably what caused the result of her having few to little friends.

With her ears pulled tightly back against her skull and her muscles tense she remained in this state of mistrust until he spoke again. By the time she snapped out of her dazed panic she came to realize the twist of her senses. There were no more shooting pains in her hips, no more aching on her back. Instead it was warmed with fuzzy feelings of delight and relaxation. Her ears flicked forward as Maisie lifted her head off of the ground, tilting it up dramatically so she could eye the kind male. He had in fact helped her, and that horn resting atop his brow was a symbol of good and not evil. "Thank y-you..." she stuttered out in more of a disbelieving tone rather than the jitters she previously suffered from. Her head turned around and eyed the healed wound that would need of her pelt to grow back over, but it was healed for the most part. "Marion," she mispronounced his name yet again. It seemed that she had been too frightened to catch it correctly the first time. "I... I'm not sure... let me... see," she spoke her words with a sense of uncertainty shuffling in the small space of the ledge, trying not to get close to it and make the mistake of falling yet again. She got to her hooves with a bit of strain but she was good for the most part.

"Now... up we go?" she questioned the male, her bright yellow eyes staring into his with more confidence than before. If he was to be her savior the least she could do we show him the respect and gratitude he deserved. She wasn't entirely clear on how they were suppose to get up. She considered herself on the heavy side and the thought of climbing on top of a male's back was horrifying to her. Even if the stallion was a monstrous size and could probably lift her without breaking a sweat. She flicked her eyes out to the ocean and watched as the white caps of the sea danced around. It was breezy and cold, and the heartbreaking thoughts of a shivering Cobb taunted her mind terribly, causing a pained look to slip across her expression.

Maion was pleased that her body had relaxed, even if it was just a fraction. Progress, he knew that a lot of soquili trusted Angeni from the start, but it was possible that she had simply never met one of his kind before... plus, even Maion knew that his size was probably monsterous to her and in the growing dark of the night he probably appeared to be little more than a shadow of darkness before her. Still not wishing to scare her he kept as far back as he could.

His eyes watching her every movement and action carefully, she was still struggling a little but at least she seemed able to move unlike before.... if only his magic had been better. It was not the first time that Maion had wonder of such a thing, Haishan Fai had nearly lost his life because Maion could do little more than heal the internal damage at the same rate it was reopening, it had taken a true unicorn to save his life. Yet, at the same time Maion had understood his limitations all along, he was able to fly high almost to the heavens and for that his healing was limited; his daughter Chandra was the opposite, her healing was stronger but she wasn't able to fly very high because for her flying with four wings had always been a struggle. He loved her dearly, and was even accepting her desire to become a midwife and to take a mate; the stallion was nice enough, and had even counted himself among those that rose up to protect the females and the herd lands against the skinwalkers.... if he had been hurt Maion would never have forgiven himself.

Pushing his thoughs aside he returned his attention fully the dainty mare before him, she was now standing; although it was on shaky legs. He could tell that she was still spooked, but again he smiled, his white teeth standing out against his black pelt. "You are more than welcome M'lady." This time when she said his name wrong again he nearly wasn't able to contain a smile and chuckle, she said it in such a cute mannor that it reminded him of when his children where first starting to talk. Io had called him 'Da-da' from the get go, but Chandra had said 'Do-do' for ages and Mal, well he was always surley as a child, and refused to say anything to Maion until he had perfected it in private. 'Father' was his usual name from Mal, it pained him.... this giant stallion, brought to his knees by his sons distrust. Perhaps if Mal had knew the full truth he would have accepted Maion more? It mattered not now how his behaviour had come about, just that Maion was determinded to be the father he wanted to be to all his children and any that would arrive in the future. He loved them.

"Yes, M'lady.... now we go up." Maion had carried soquili before, mainly foals and young mares.... but he still felt confident enough to be able to get this petite creature up to safety. He assessed the situation, stepping back of the cliff as he opened his magestic wings. His body began to fall before he flapped his wings in one mighty flap that forced his form up towards the shelf the mare was stood upon. "Are you ready? You are going to need to climb onto my back, I will carry up both up to the cliff top.... its not that far, I promise, you can keep your eyes closed the whole time if you wish little one."

Then, a pained look covered her face and Maion's heart stopped and broke, had what he said scared her so much? Or was there something else? Instantly concerned he said, "Are you ok? Can I help you with anything?"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 11:18 am

He seemed so sincere in ever action that he did so how was Maisie suppose to stay frightened of this gentleman? Her nerves were nearly settled completely but that primal instinct inside of her urged her to keep mistrusting Maion. Bad things happened when he let your guard down. She knew this, or rather it was burned into her from past experiences. Perhaps her past experiences wasn't the right choice of words. More like her mother's. Maisie recalled the faint conversations that were shared between her and her mother when she was just a long foal. Usually, Maisie was a therapist while her dear mother vented her frustrations and concerns with so much heart put into her words sometimes it would bring her to tears. Troubles of Maisie's father, her step father, and the people who were closest and yet so distant from them. Terribly neglectful people her father and step father was. Selfish and full of cruel insults. If there had to be a reason for Maisie's low self esteem it would probably be the authority carrying males in her life that her mother was tricked into loving.

After she was up on her hooves and he told her that she was more than welcome a faint smile brushed his way across her lips and her eyes zoned in on his bright shining smile that pierced it's way through the dark night atmosphere. At first it had caused her to get cautious because she wasn't sure if it was a snarl or a grin but the moonlight shined done upon his perfect features and revealed that it was nothing more than kindness. A sigh of relief filled her as she turned her focus back out to the sea and waited for his next action. Stepping off the cliff was like suicide to Maisie so when he did such a careless action her mind dismissed the idea that he had wings and her heart reached out to him. A sharp gasp and a sudden step towards the ledge as if she could catch him before he fell to his death in the icy sea. When the flap of his wings gusted up some wind that hit her hard she sighed and let her worries vanish. Before she got on she heard him ask of everything was alright and she shook her head a bit reluctantly. She didn't want to burden this helpful male with her troubles. He was doing so very much for her already.

His massive size flapped it's way right to the edge of the ledge and her golden eyes flicked from him to the crashing waves of chilling water below. The mist from the ocean being like a ghost, coaxing her to her death. "Y-you w-want me to get on?" she asked in a very uncertain tone and shuddered slightly at the thought. "W-what if I slip?" she was clearly put off by the idea of having to ride on his back. Still, how else would she ever get up to the top ledge where she could finally go home to her beloved son. She couldn't be the second mother to leave him. Definitely not. She shuffled closer and muttered under her breathe, more like a prayer, "Don't move, please..." After calming her fears she awkwardly tried to lay her body across his back, without slipping to far over the edge so that she'd just tumble off. This balancing act was one that could end her life if she wasn't careful. Once she was on her eyes were focused on the waters below and her insides twisted and knotted. Since she was pressed against the mighty Angeni she was sure he could feel her fear seeping through to him in the waves of shivers that rippled through her skin. "Don't drop me..." she begged in the softest tone and buried her face into his mane so that she wouldn't have to look down anymore. Sure, it was a childish act, but right now she felt more like a child than ever before.

Maion patiently watched the mare, he could almost hear her fears being transmitted to him from her relative safety of the legde. The fact that she had dashed forward in an effort to safe him despite her obvious mistrust and fear made him proud of her, and said volumes about her character. She was far braver than she believed, this creature with a pelt as dark as night.

This was proven yet again as she placed her trust him and climbed -a little clumsily- upon his back. He did the best he could not to hinder her efforts, but had to admit he was slightly fearful of his wings getting nipped or caught by her movements sending them both plumetting to towards the Ocean, the only advantage they had was that he could summon a turrent of water from the Ocean to their rescue should that happen. "Fear not little one," he cooed in an effort to help her relax, he had no intention of letting her become injured futher. "I promise I will not see you harmed more, nor do I intend to drop you." Although he would have prefered to be able to promise that he would not drop her, Maion was aware that sometimes things were beyond your control... he feared this may be one of them, after all such an act could be caused by either Maion or the dainty mare currently lay trembling upon his back.

"Shhhhhhhh......" He said as he slowly began to rise them up towards the cliff, he would have been faster on his own or even with just a foal but with this dainty mare he didn't wish to risk her falling or even risk her fearing him more. No, now was not the time to show off or take haste. He would reasure her the best he could.

Half way up to the cliff he could already feel the change in pressure, could feel the wind as it raced to crashed into the cliff side before rushing up and over the top. Dangerous conditions.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 17, 2010 1:54 am

As she pressed her soft nose against his neck she squinted tighter with each slight gust of wind that shot up from the crashing waves below. It rocked Maion a tiny bit but wasn't anything that would send the mare upon his back diving down to a watery grave. She doubted if she would even survive the fall. A calming voice pierced the veil of blackness that her mind was set on and sent a slight warmth through her body. A tiny sense that maybe everything would turn out alright. Promises were a big thing for Maisie and she would never go back on her word, yet she couldn't exactly expect the same from her newly met acquaintance. "Thank you kindly," she muttered softly against his coat and barely opened her eyes, just enough to see the ocean. The view would have been breathe taking if not in this situation.

A few moments pass before Maion flapped his powerful quartet of wings and began to climb the wall of the cliff. She was greatful that he wasn't tilting his body and was using a soft motion as not to rock her to badly. Still, even with his careful calculations to keep her spirit calm there was other variables he couldn't control. Like the uneasy shift that powerful wind current tossed them around a bit, leaving Maisie to cry out softly and hug him tighter with her body atop his. Her sudden grasp at him was a slight mistake because her hoof had managed to clamp down one of the tinier of the four wings and left him to lean with a weaker force on one side of him.

In result of this sudden tilt Maisie slipped slightly to one of his sides, hoofs digging into him unintentionally. She didn't mean him harm but she just didn't want to die. She wasn't ready to give her life up and her will to survive was showing the way she scrambled to get back on top, "I'm slipping! I'm slipping!" she cried out as if it weren't already obvious. Her struggle to get back her balance had managed her hoof to let loose his wing and he'd be able to regain his own orientation. Still, she was slanted on him now and holding tight for dear life. If he didn't reach the cliffs edge soon she would unfortunately have her straight give out. "Marion... please, hurry..." she whimpered though it was doubtful he could hear her over the whistling of the wind currents that blew over his wings.

Maion felt her slip, his heart began to beat like a brass drum in his chest. His wing gave way, leaving him with one three working properly. Unable to fly because of his lack of balance and co-ordination with only three wings he spread them wide in and effort to glide for a moment while the pain ebbed.

Luckily he knew she couldn't see his face, his expression was a combination of pain and concentration. Pain because the damage to the lower joint of his wing was excruicating and the fact that it was taking all his concentration to prevent them from crashing into the cliff wall. They had already started to loose ground, the cliff top getting further and further away from them. Yet, Maion wouldn't give up. He had made a vow to help the creature that he had scared off the cliff and he would do just that.

He tried to shift his body so that her slight form rested more centrally, and perhaps a little towards his unharmed wings, before he spoke again; his voice was a little gritted and filled with pain; "Hold tight little one," He would have said more, tried to soothe her but knew his attention was needed to the task at hand. The pain was starting to lessen now, but still he wasn't sure he would be able to gain enough control over it to lift them higher with the remaining of his strength.

Maion had a choice. He could allow them to fall, try to reach the legde again and regain his strength and compose. Or, he could use his power over the Ocean, summoning it to their aid. To some he considered the choice would have been simple, but Maion did not believe that power should be abused, no, he believed those in power had a responisbility to use their power to benefit others. Was it selfish to use his power now?

The dilema circled and floated in his mind, joined with other arguements. If he took the mare back to the legde it would probably destroy her, and she was unlikely to risk trusting him a second time. Yet, he could not simply ignore the will of the Ocean, it was happy coming in and out at will.

What to do? What to do?

Then he felt the mare slip again, her panicked voice enough to spare him on. He had vowed to help her, promised he would see no more harm come to her -that included the emotional trumor of being stuck on the legde again, so close to safety but ever unable to reach it.

Maion knew what he had to do, he needed to summon the Ocean.

Closing his eyes he focussed, his words spoken in French -the language of the Ocean's power.

"Mer, océan viens à mon aide.
Mer, océan j'ai besoin de toi ce jour.
Prêtez-moi votre force et votre puissance aussi,
je le jure sur la Lune pour vous payer de retour bientôt."

In English his words meant: Ocean, Ocean come to my aid. Ocean, Ocean I need you this day. Lend me your strength and your power too, I swear on the Moon to pay you back soon. Yes, he would make an offering to the Ocean and clean up the beaches to contribute towards his payment.

As the last of his words left his lips Maion could feel the power shimmering around him, the light left his horn and dipped down into the Ocean. Time froze, and then the next thing Maion knew a giant torrent of water reached up towards them, the top a sleek legde that Maion rested his hooved upon as it continued upwards taking them with him.

The legde was in sight now. "See little one, everything will be ok now." Once the legde was within jumping distance he took the leap of faith, the mare still awkwardly upon his back. Maion managed the move but skidded slightly due to his hooves being moist from the Ocean's aid.

Finally he stopped.

The will power she had to survive was currently keeping the young mare from seeing the horrific pain that she was causing poor Maion. If she had probably seen his face she would have been stunned enough to loosen her grip, even if it meant falling to a watery grave. It might have been a bit more out of stupidity, but at least her heart was in the right place. However, she didn't see his face and because of that she remained with her hoofs digging into his hide and clung for dear life.

He wasn't picking up a lot of distance now and Maisie thought it was mostly her fault. If they never made it to the ledge she wouldn't blame Maion because it was in fact her fault. Maisie was the reason he lacked the sufficient energy to flap his godly wings. She knew this was a bad idea from the get go, and yet she trusted him enough to give it a shot. She cringed at the idea of falling to her death, but she guessed it would be better than staying on that ledge and starving to death.

However, out of nowhere it seemed, a sudden gusted picked up slightly, and carried sweet words into her ear. Well, she assumed they were sweet. She had never listened to such a twisted tongue before. Maybe it was a prayer? God knows they needed it. However, all the sudden their direction changed. Instead of dropping steadily towards the water below they traveled up, towards the sky. Towards the ledge to safety. His calming words allowed her to stop struggling to get back on and she just hung to him by a thread.

It wasn't until his leap that she felt her hooves slip completely, since she was that tilted on his back. When he landed and skidded on the solid ground she slipped on fell on her side. "Ooomph," she let out as she scrambled to her feet awkwardly. It didn't hurt. Well, not when you compared it to her previous fall. She looked around awkwardly before rushing to the edge of the ledge. She didn't get to close to it though. Maybe about five feet off. "W-what was that? H-how? Water doesn't do that...." she bit her lip and figured she should be doing something other than asking silly questions.

The yellow eyed doe slowly turned around to face the helpful giant and shuffled her hooves back over to him. "Marion... thank you.... You didn't need to go to all that trouble, but you did. Th-thank you so very much." She bowed her head low in respect to him, knowing that a simple thank you could never, would never be enough. "You were so brave..." she handed out a little compliment to tag along the end if her sentence. Her eyes slowly began to flick back up to meet his, but she still had a sense of nervousness about her. Maybe it was because he was so incredible. She was stunned by his amazing efforts to keep her safe even when he didn't know a thing about her. That sort of generosity amazed her.

Out of breath from the effort to summon his powers and then to stop himself from slidding, Maion simply stood and panted for a while. He was thankful that his friend in the Ocean had come to his aid, thankful that the mare behind him was safe despite her second fall for the evening. The fact that she was walking and not crying out in pain told him volumes about her condition. Even if she was hurt it was nothing that needed immediate attention... but there was something that did. The Ocean.

Maion felt a twang of guilt for summoning the Ocean to his aid, and had he not feared for the mares life he wouldn't have dared. So.... although it was rude Maion walked past the mare and to the cliff. Closing his eyes and bowing his head and the front of his body in a silent thank you before saying; "Merci cher ami." He stood there for a moment, simply thinking and preying to the Ocean for its aid. Then when he was satisfied for now he turned back to the mare with his usual gentle smile peeled upon his face.

"You are more than welcome m'lady." He bowed his head softly in greeting. Since her fall she had been calling him 'Marion', a name Maion believed belonged to a mare rather than a stallion. Not wanting to embarrass her by simply pointing out her error he instead said, "Let us start this evening again. My name is Maion.... and I swear to you that I intend you no harm." Maion was still stood before the cliff, hoping that if the mare ran from him this time she would hopefully run towards the main land and not out into the Ocean once more -he doubted she would be lucky enough to find a legde the second time around.

Maion was flattered by her words, and if he had been a younger man was sure his cheeks would have flushed with pride at having saved such a delicate mare; but Maion was older now than he once was... and things had changed much over the years from when he had first taken his post as the Angeni of the Ocean. So, with a polite smile he said; "It was the least I could do since I had spooked you into falling to begin with.... it was my duty to save you." Then he remembered she had been troubled, and that she appeared so nervous and shy of him over and over again. He wondered if there was anything he could do to help..... perhaps she simply needed some encouragment to come out of her shell? Maion had heard of poor mares who had been abused or harmed before being forced to escape, was she such a mare? He had never met one before but from the talk of them he had got the impression you needed to tred lightly.

So, staying on the lines of civilised conversation Maion tried to keep the conversations tone light and airy while trying to get to the heart of the mares problems. "Tell me about yourself? I do not even know you name so I can tell my children of this occurance." Maion often told the herd tales, some imaginary and others real though he would never tell them which was which, he liked to keep them guess and the light that he saw in each of their eyes as he spoke made his heart bubble over with joy. To see his herd, his family, his life source happy was what he felt he was born for, his true duty and purpose in life. If Maion had his way he would lead them right and get to spend many more years in their presence.

She stumbled out of his way as he approached the edge of the rocky cliff and observed him carefully as he bowed his head and uttered a few words in that foreign tongue again. At first she had assumed that he was coming towards her to perhaps make contact between them, which startled her to say the least, but this stallion didn't seem that dull. It appeared that the male had a lot of empathy and this was good for somebody like Maisie. Perhaps he could give her some space, or maybe something more medicinal than that.

After a few moments of silence Maisie thought it might be best if she just left. If she just turned on her hooves and fled before he could turn his attention back on her. He had done what he intended so maybe it was the smart thing to do. Just leave. However, just as she was about to turn away he spoke his reply, even going as far as to bow his head to her. How polite of the fearless male. Introductions. He had given her his before but it seemed she had misheard him and spoke it wrong the entire time. A harsh wave of blush flushed her cheeks and she lowered her head, "Maion. I apologize. I thought Marion seemed like such a... unfitting name for you. Maion sounds much more.... you." She offered him an embarrassed smile and shuffled on her hooves nervously.

It took a minute of silence perhaps for her to realize that it was her turn. "Oh, um... I'm Maisie. I'm sure.... telling your children of how you had to save a idiotic mare from falling to her death would amazing and amuse most young ones..." What she didn't know was that the children he bared were probably more around her age. She lowered her head, feeling like she was to be judged accurately by his tales.

It seemed to her like their meeting was coming to an end, and she could go to Cobb, her beloved foal. Her adoptive son who was probably waiting up for mommy. However, his words kept her anchored. Kept her hooves feeling like lead. "Tell you about me? W-well... I don't..." she looked back towards the forested land before turning her bright eyes that stuck out from the night back to the Angeni. "Walk with me?" she asked in a soft voice. "I'll tell you whatever you wish to know. It's the least I could do..." Maisie wanted to get back to Cobb but she didn't want to be so rude as to leave Maion so suddenly with only a thanks.

Maion couldn't stiffle the laugh that was threatening to bubble over in his throat as the mare apologised. "You need not apologise, you where spooked -and by my doing, it is the very least I deserve." He said with a smile that lit up his sparkly black pelt. "But thank you," he continued, "I happen to like my name.... a gift from my mother." He had only added the last part with a slight hesitation, he no longer knew the truth of anything. He wasn't even sure that the woman he had believed was his mother was actually his mother.... yet, he had been told by that mother years after he had believed her dead that she was indeed alive and well and had adopted two skinwalkers, Kimi and Zeta. Would his mother... a woman who had always claimed to hold the purity of Angeni's above all else allow herself to be associated with such beasts. It was because Maion had believed that those very creatures had taken her life from this world that he had hunted them as a young stallion. How foolish he had been then. How happy he was now that he understood the world better.... his mate, Sengdroma, had helped with that cause a lot.

"Maisie," he repeated, committing the name to memory. The way she described herself gave Maion an insight to her unhappiness.... she was unconfident with herself, unconfident within her own flesh and that caused her to be unconfident around others; nervous infact. He wondered if there was anything he could do. If he had been a younger man he probably would have tried to do the task himself, give her compliments as a mare and slowly start to build her self-esteem up; yet she was about the same age as his children and Maion could not see himself doing such a thing any longer.... but maybe his daughter Chandra would. Leadership was often a juggling act filled with deligation and judgements based on his personal knowlegde of everyone involved. In this case he saw a hurting timid mare, and knew that his daughter Chandra was so full of life and happiness that she could even make the birds sing in welcome to her. Yes, perhaps a meeting between the two would do them both some good.

Although he wasn't sure what he personally could do to aid this mare he knew that he could ease her fears about his stories. "I would rather describe you as a brave mare who was willing to risk the company of a tall, dark and handsome" he said with a playful wink, "in order to save herself."

When she requested he walk with her Maion found himself instantly curious, but at the same time he had noted the tone of urgency within Maisie's voice. She was in a hurry for something.... but what? Maion did not want to get in her way or cause her more trouble than his mere presence had earlier. He nodded and walked beside her as he asked, "Would you rather I left you in peace little Maisie? I do not wish to incovience you futher." Again he had his gentlest smile upon her face, not wishing to scare her any more than he already had.

Still he asked, "Where are we going?"
