 Nitya was slowly dragging herself home. Between that week it took her to get conscious, those two days she stayed by the river resting, and the three days of wandering to try to find home, Nitya had been gone for almost two whole weeks.
'Papa and Father are going to be frantic,' she thought glumly; she wasn't all that fond of being fussed over. It was bad enough that she was the youngest in a litter of six. Now fussing rights were practically guaranteed, thanks to the brand-spanking new scar across her throat.
Well, it would be a scar. Right now it was still a pretty horrific-looking scab that covered a good deal of space. The edges were pinched together with the bright pink of new skin, but for the most part it was a giant mass of.........well, you get the picture.
Nitya had been trying to keep it clean, but the thing was in a cursed inconvient spot! It made talking a little painful too. Her voice sounded like she'd been gargling glass, so for the most part she hadn't been talking. Who was there to talk to, anyway?
The end of her journey was near, Nitya could tell. She was starting to smell the giant gathering of foxes that was her odd family. The scent had slowly been getting stronger throughout the day, so she must be heading in the right direction.

 Yuki was furious. Down right vivid. He had trusted Mercury for one day, one damn day, and what happened? His nephew had lost his youngest daughter! Why had he listened to Runaiu and Ixen? Why had he agreed to letting Nitya stay the night with him? He couldn't even be trusted to watch over a kit! Yuki was from a family of runners, fast and strong runners, and he himself was a runner. So, naturally his kits came out as runners, too.Though he had just assumed Mercury could watch over just one kit.
He hoped Mercury never had kits. He'd lose them all and they'd all die.
Dammit! What if Nitya was dead?! Two weeks, two long weeks of his child being missing! He was heartbroken, and furious, and scared. His daughter was lost and there was a chance he'd never see her again. What if she never returned? What if she was dead?
What if, what if?!

Nitya knew she was getting closer, but she was just too tired to keep moving. Her unknown savior had left her some food before disappearing, but after Nitya had eaten it all she found she probably getting food was a lot harder than she'd imagined. For one thing she just hurt! It wasn't only her throat, the rest of her felt pretty pounded.
The other factor was, of course, her throat. Nitya wasn't really up for hunting at the moment. Even if she caught something it would hurt too much to eat it. Plants were her best bet, but in the three days she'd been wandering she hadn't really come across much, which was a bit dismaying. Water was scarce too.
She was a big kit now, almost ready to grow into an adult, but still quite small compared to said adults. Right now though, Nitya was starting to wonder if she'd ever get the chance to grow up. Her legs wobbled, and collapsed under her body. She lay there, shivering a bit and breathing heavily, making little squeaking noises as she exhaled.

Yuki didn't know why he was searching, or rather pacing. Ixen and him took turns, one looked after the remaining kits and the other looked for Nitya. They both hadn't given up hope, and Yuki never would. He had birthed her! He had carried her in his stomach! He was not going to give up on something that had been a part of him and was his family.
Though, it was getting dark and he was considering going home to feed the kids, though he knew Kithara would if he wasn't home in time. She tended to look after her siblings when he or Ixen couldn't.
He heard a thump sound, ears twitching as he decided to go see what it was, besides he didn't want to think what Sin would do if he saw a trespasser. His paws brought him to the cause of the noise until he found a small bundle of grey. Was it... possibly...?
"Nitya?!"

Papa? Nitya stirred on the ground, moving her head so she could look in the direction she'd heard the sound coming from. She winced slightly as the earth scraped against her scab.
Yup, that was Papa. Nitya had kind of been hoping Father would be the first to find her, because he was the calmer of the two. Though she supposed there would be no easy way to really show off her wound to either parent. She was glad her body was against the ground, it disguised her ruined throat. Not that that would last much longer......
"Papa," she mumbled. Nitya had to wince internally. Even a mumble sounded horrible. She wasn't even sure Papa had been able to understand what she'd said, the word had come out so distorted.

It was Nitya!
His heart hammered, his legs pushed forward to approach her. He nudged her upwards, nearly dropping her when he saw the scar. What had happened?! What had Mercury let happen! That b*****d! The male licked his child hastily, nuzzling her into his fur and affectionally cleaning her off.
"What happened to you? Are you okay? Your throat... Don't speak. Don't. I'll take you home, we'll patch you up. Mercury won't be allowed near you again." True, she had been the one to run off, but she was a kit and his daughter, he wasn't going to yell at the child he thought he lost.
"Nitya, I'm so happy you returned..."

Nitya's body vibrated a little in silent laughter. Partially it was happiness at being found, and the other partial was at her papa's reaction. Maybe she'd understand if she were in his place, or if the terror of the moment was still fresh, but she'd have plenty of time to get used to the injury's impact.
"Not Merc's fault, Papa," she said, feeling a bit obligated to protect her cousin. She almost wished she'd stayed silent. Maybe after she healed and got into the habit of talking again her voice would sound better, but it would always be like her words had fought through a pile of gravel to reach someone's ears.

Yuki recoiled from her suddenly at the sound of her voice, anger rushing through him. Mercury had done this! His daughter could have died... That was all that rushed through his brain. His anger surged higher until he realized that right now was not the time to be angry, but the time to make sure Nitya was cared for. He was her "papa", he was supposed to make sure she was safe and sound.
"Nitya, stop talking. Now." He was not the one who gave orders usually, it was Ixen, but her voice sounded like it hurt to speak and he didn't want her to be in pain. "Shake your head if you want me to get you some food or water. I'm going to take you home soon and I want you to rest." Sadly, it was Kithara that knew how to heal and he himself had no idea. Kithara and Ixen were very smart with herbs.

Nitya winced a little. She wished her sister was here for this one. Papa was a bit frantic, so he probably didn't seem to realize that shaking her head, what with the location of her wound, would hurt more than talking. To be honest, talking didn't really hurt at all. It was just a mild strain due to her prolonged silence, but in the last couple days since she'd last tried to speak she had definetly healed some more.
An internal sigh. Papa was going to be difficult about this, for sure. She'd have to warn cousin Mercury next time she saw him, or Aunt Runaiu, who seemed more likely. "Doesn't hurt. Sounds bad. Water." She kept her sentences as short as possible. Nitya knew her voice would never go back to how it was, so may as well acclimate Papa's ears to it as much as possible.

Water. Okay. Water. No wait she wasn't listening to him! She needed to not talk! He sent her a warning look, shaking his head and licking her side. He needed to speak to Ixen about Mercury and what to do with him. Runaiu was not going to get her son out of this mess. Runaiu may have a silver tongue at times, but her son was a chaotic mess!
He flicked the tip of his tail side to side in anger, ears twitching. Water. He needed to get that.
"Stay right here." He whispered, padding off to the pond to grab water for his beloved daughter.

((Sure. XD I just got a mental picture of both Nitya and Runaiu agreeing it wasn't Merc's fault, and Yuki going berserk in the background.))
Nitya flicked her tail in acknowledgement, since it was one of the only parts of her body that didn't ache a bit. She imagined that stupid pig trashed her more than she'd noticed after she hit the ground. Or maybe it was all the walking she'd done. Either way she didn't really feel like moving if she didn't have to.
Still. How exactly did Papa plan to bring water to her? Water was kinda hard to move.

Yuki yanked a large leaf from a tree, padding over to the pond once he found it. He scooped the leaf into the water, using his tail to cup the leaf gently so only a little spilled out. Damn, this was failing. He'd give her the water he got now and then bring her over after. The grey and purple male padded back to his daughter, setting the leaf down and nudging her.
"Here, if this isn't enough then I'll bring you to the pond myself." He said. Well, he'd have to put off the kits meeting the family right now, he didn't want to stress Nitya out during her healing process.

Nitya forced her back legs up from the ground. Thankfully the front ones were already up after Papa had scooted her up against him. She slowly tottered over the to leaf and lapped all the water off of it. It wasn't more than a couple mouthfuls, hardly enough after long days with little to eat or drink.
"More," she croaked, looking up at Papa with those purple eyes that were almost copied from his face. Out of all the kits, Nitya probably looked the most like her Papa.

Yuki nodded, lying on his stomach and nudging her onto his back, using his tail to try and hold her in place and standing carefully, slowly trying to make sure Nitya was safe on his back.
"Alright." He gently whispered, padding off to the bond. He was proud of his little girl she was tough and had come home all by herself. Now, she was safe with them and he would protect her with all of his strength.
He took her to the pond, putting her down beside the pond and nudging her so all she had to do was put her muzzle in the water.

Nitya winced slightly, wishing she was still small enough for Papa to just grab her around the middle. Of course she'd outgrown that size awhile ago. And she would have had to support the weight of her head, so there probably was no easy way to move her. Ah well, at least the wound was healing nicely. Whoever had those bright red eyes, they must have known a thing or two about healing.
Determined to keep her face normal, Nitya allowed Papa to nudge her close to the water. She slowly moved her head so that she could drink without getting water up her nose, and rapidly lapped up the cold, delicious water.
