Where was she? Horatio hadn't seen her since the party, and he really wanted to. Why was it so hard to find her? Well, of course he had to keep up with his duties. He wasn't high enough on the scale to sit and do nothing. And even if he was, he wasn't really the time to sit around. Going out and enjoying life was the motto to his...life, he guessed with a chuckle.

He wandered, still not completely familiar with the lands. Not like the back of his paw. He knew that she couldn't wander out of them, even to hunt, so how come it was so hard? He probably wasn't looking in the right places. Sigh.

Maybe he should just ask. But who to asked? He paused where he was, looking around blankly. Lost, again.

Amalthea's life had been improving since the night of the party and while she had Horatio to thank for that, she had somehow managed to avoid him entirely the last little while. There had been so much going on with suspicious strangers coming into the lands, plenty of cubs around-- especially those born to others in her own class.. it was all a little more exciting now that she was making an effort not to be so withdrawn and miserable.

She had been out on patrol with her father, who was in a very good mood lately- and at least part of that, Amalthea knew, was because she had finally cheered up. Now she was on her way back inward while her father continued around on his route, intending to meet up with one of the other guards. She walked at a decent pace, trying to decide how she should spend the rest of her day. She didn't realize Horatio was anywhere nearby.

Ugh. Really, how was he lost? It wasn't like the lands were huge. They were just...big enough to get lost within, apparently. He was wondering if he should keep wandering around, wait for someone to find him, or just...hope someone was nearby enough to ask for directions when..!

"Aha!" he gasped, getting himself all gathered up to meet her. Perfect! Well, maybe not under the best circumstances, but at least he wasn't going to be lost on his own, and he wouldn't have to keep looking for her. Two things taken care of at once.

"Amalthea," he breathed, catching up to her.

Amalthea started when she heard her name but once she saw who it was, she couldn't help but smile widely. She hadn't been expecting to see Horatio but she hadn't forgotten about him.

"Good afternoon, Horatio!" she said brightly, tilting her head slightly, "What are you doing out here today?" It wasn't really a strange place to be but he didn't look quite like he was out having fun- wouldn't he have been more obvious if he was doing something other than wandering around? And this wasn't a good hunting spot, especially by yourself.

He was quite happy, but the question did dim his light a bit. It was...a little embarrassing?

"Ah, well, y'see..." he grasped at his words on how to explain this without looking like an utter fool. "I got a little lost....looking for you." He sheepishly offered her a grin, hoping that it would soften how cubbish it sounded. He wouldn't deny it, but hopefully avoid talking about it openly, ahaha...ha.

"Looks like I fixed both problems, though!"

Amalthea blinked and then brightened up a bit when she he confessed what had happened. It didn't have to be anything but innocent but it still made her smile to know someone was looking for her.

"Looks like it," she agreed with a small laugh, "You've ended up quite far out, it's lucky I was just out with one of the guards or I might not have been so near the borders myself."

"Ooooh, I did?" he asked. Well, maybe it was a good thing that he didn't keep wandering. He wouldn't have really left the lands, as the borders were apparent enough, but he might have wandered around them until a guard found pitiful him.

"Well, I should be grateful that you saved me from wasting more of my day wandering aimlessly," he said, offering her quite a polite nod of his head. "I do hope I find you in good spirits? I haven't seen you since the party..."

"Well, it seems you could use some wandering around so you don't keep getting lost," she said, smiling sheepishly, "If you don't mind my saying so." They were friends but she still felt inclined to be carefully polite, she ought to behave like that anyway.

"It's been quite busy since then," she murmured when he commented on how long it's been, "I'm sorry."

He laughed at what she had said, because it was quite the truth! "I've got a good idea of where the good hunting is, but that's because I go out with some of the other hunters," he commented, enjoying a small relaxing moment with her. Sometimes he wished he could ask for more of her time, but he didn't really have a reason to. He just wished that he could.

"I understand," he said with a nod and a soft smile. "There's no need to apologize about it."

"I'm not doing anything now, though," she said suddenly, hesitating after she realized what she said. Still smiling but feeling a little silly, the went on, "I mean, we could go for a walk if you want. I know my way around well enough and I'm supposed to help anyone who needs it.."

It was an unnecessary excuse but it was a justification for her not looking for someone who asked for her help. She would much rather spend her time wandering around with Horatio.

Horatio beamed. "Perfect," he said, always happy to spend more time with her. Then he might figure out why he couldn't quite always get her out of his mind. Maybe she was just one big puzzle for him to figure out, and he was only just starting it.

"Maybe just showing me a bit around here would be a good start, since I don't really go this direction. How's that sound?" Then maybe he wouldn't get quite so lost, and he might be able to figure her out a bit more. Especially if she held any sort of schedule of any kind; then he might not get lost next time!

Yep, next time.

"Sure," she said brightly, "My father often meets another guard near here, that's why I was coming in this way. I was patrolling with him." She had no idea what significance this area had, if any, but it just seemed to be the place Thoth and Badiri crossed paths and joined up for the rest of their route.

"I don't know that there's much special about right here, if there was it probably wouldn't be so unfamiliar to you, right?" she looked around, "Let's see if we can find any good landmarks."

He nodded, listening. So perhaps important for the border, but not really for hunting. Got it. But it also gave him a little hint about her, and so he had zero complaints. Actually, a few more. Father? Everyone had parents, but it was nice to know that he was around. Guarding, too. Slowly but surely he was learning more things about her.

Horatio couldn't help himself. "Special is relative. You're here, right? So it's special to me."

"Oh-"

Amalthea didn't have a reply for that so she ultimately just decided to stay quiet-- though now with a small smile on her face. She knew she had a friend now but he never failed to be especially kind and sweet. She was getting better now but she wasn't sure she could get used to that.

Quietly, she led the way around. She had an idea of the kinds of landmarks that were around but they were all small things you didn't really take much notice of once you knew where this was.

Hah! He was happy that she had smiled. He didn't mention anything right off the bat, instead deciding to follow her around, taking note about what was here and there. Hopefully it would help him not get lost again. Being bound by borders was something he was....a bit used to, and yet not at the same time. His homeland had been much different than the Mwezi lands.

"You shine much brighter when you smile," he finally said.
