After the releases last year of the DuckTales & Chip 'n' Dale DVDs (not to mention earlier releases of Gargoyles), I had dared to hope that a release might be forthcoming for a certain masked mallard.

And now my dreams may be coming true:

If this does materialise, I will be so happy. This and Animaniacs are probably my all time favourite 90s cartoons and now both look set for a release. The corporations have seen the light!

Let's get dangerous!

And so do I!

These seem to be the days of wine and roses for nostalgia buffs, but why does everything have to happen when I have a cash flow problem?

Certainly sounds like Disney have worked out they have a cash-cow on their hands, and they're doing a decent job with the DVD releases (I'll give them this, they may have a habbit for making the decent DVDs "limited edition", but they ARE decent *wishes I bought B&tB when it was out), hopefully nostalgia will provide more and more releases for the future, and that WB follow suit sooner than later.

Well, they have said they're releasing Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain on DVD later this year. In theory we may get 'em by July 26th. No complete seasons, but if they follow the Disney pattern of 27 episodes per set, then that'll do me. I will resent it if I have to shell out for like 3 episodes at a time though...

Yes Disney, I'm looking at your Quack Pack and Goof Troop releases!

Still, one cannot have everything smile

And Nuala, I'm entirely with you. Why must they do this just when I'd sworn I wasn't going to splash out on DVDs for a while?

At least i've been sort of saving (ie not spending quite as much) in anticipation of Serenity and Porco Rosso.

Sounds intresting with releasing DW on dvd, though I wonder if it will eventually reach Sweden with all episodes that didn't air....? (I think I have to return to my tower in waiting for a release. *disappears in a puff of smoke.* ninja )

So... Did you see Miyazaki on The South Bank Show last week?

Sadly, my tv-less existance meant I wasn't aware of that one.
Did he mention the Earthsea film?

I'll just have to remain dubious on that one until further information, then...

I've...come to dislike Disney over the past couple of years. I think it was mainly the rediculous attempts they made at making money e.g. making straight-to-video of ALL their classic films. I mean, c'mon, they made a Cinderella 2! How can you make a sequel to Cinderella? Then there were those sequel films which took place inbetween the two halves of a that films predecessor (Tarzan 2 and Beauty and the Beast's Enchanted Christmas).

I do like some of their films, admittedly, but ones I like are a) made before they made all these sequels (Alladin), b) very, VERY different from Disney's usual fare (Lilo & Stitch and The Emperor's New Groove) or c) made in co-operation with Pixar (Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Incredibles).

It's good to know that some of their more popular series are getting decent DVD releases (I never really watched much of Darkwing Duck or Gargoyles, but I did like what I'd seen). I doubt I'll get any of them myself, but I'm glad to know these'll be making a few nostalgic people happy.

Unless it's Kingdom Hearts or "Pirates of the Carribean"-related, I really don't look forward to much of what Disney's bringing out these days. Direct-to-video sequels, remakes that nobody's asking for, and now the consumption of Pixar...The future looks dark indeed.

Of course, I'm sure my perspective is somewhat biased, seeing as I'm still a bit sore at Disney after working in their little concentration cam- er, theme park...

Guess I am a bit happy with them for releasing the Miyazaki flicks, though. I gotta go pick up "Howl.." soon.

I'm actually willing to give them more of a chance since the Pixar deal. Steve Jobs is the man behind Apple - he now technically has more money and more shares than Disney themselves, and Disney needed him more than he needed them.

All of the news I've seen points to him dictating a lot of the terms and goings-on at the moment. This could be the rebirth that Disney needs.

Of course, I'm a bit more sceptical about that after:

1. One of the factors involved in Pixar and Disney parting company was Pixar not wanting to make Toy Story 3.

2. One of Pixar's first actions upon returning to Disney was to can Disney's efforts at making Toy Story 3 themselves.

3. Pixar then announce that they're starting work on their own version of Toy Story 3.

Here's hoping that absolute power doesn't corrupt absolutely.

On the plus side, none of Pixar's previous work seems to have been done any harm by the Disney link...
But yeah. I am inclined to be slightly more hopeful and slightly less distinterested, now.
