Ok. I'm moving to a new school and I used to play clarinet but recently I took flute back up. My band teacher hasn't been all that supportive and if there's anything wrong with it he says it's my blowing... though it isn't, I just proved him wrong recently. But anyway, I can't decide if I should keep playing flute [though I'm still learning] or stick with what I'm used to.. My band teacher of course said to stick with clarinet... But recently I've come to despise it.. And I want to stick with flute but I don't know if the new school's band director will be s supportive... so.. what should I do? confused

there is no such thing as too many flute players. lol okay well there totally is. i say flute just because i play it. but i mean, if you have started to not like clarinet, then why not start fresh. new school, new (ish) instrument. heart

I was in that perdicament a while back. I played clarinet, and was really good, but I wanted a change. So I dropped it for flute. Personally, go with what you want and what feels right. If you want a challenge, or something new, go with flute. If you'd be more comfertable with what you know, stay with the clarinet. 3nodding

you should do the flute because the band director at your new school might not know you very well so he/she might might be more supportive of your flute skills and will not blame your mess ups on your blowing

If you don't like the instrument there is really no point in playing it. I'd say change. But it depends how important it is for you to feel like you are one of the good players, if it really matters to be the best in a section then you would stick to what you are already good at. But then you might not have the motivation to practise etc. I'd say flute and really work at it.

i am a clarinet player myself but you seem to be happier trying out the flute so i suggest you stick with the flute. Cos your gonn want to pick something that you will stick with your life not just change to something you hate cos of your band teacher. he can go screw himself sideways! music is supposed to make you happy not be a chore.

Go to your new school and play the instrument that you like playing the most but ask if you also play the other instrument as a secondary instrument say for like a band or something

play flute because if you play the clarinet your not going to get better if you dont like what you play so if you play flute its something that you want to do and you'll want to practice and get better

You should go with the Flute. You said you wanted to prove yor band teacher wrong so you should go for it.

I think you should play the flute, no one is stopping you. If the flute is to hard then you can always go back to the clarinet. 3nodding

Clarinet, cause it would be hella easier to learn the saxophone, but sadly, it doesn't work the other way around...

maybe you should talk to the band director at the new school. You never know, they may be in desperate need for clarinets...or flutes for that matter... be sure to let him know that you can play both instruments. You may also want to ask because the music may be really hard and you might want to play what you're used to

Sub-zero_Alchemist Clarinet, cause it would be hella easier to learn the saxophone, but sadly, it doesn't work the other way around... yes it does. the saxiphone was invented for kids to be able to learn how to play the clarinet until their fingers got big enough to cover up the holes since the sax has keys
