This December I'm going to try out for a drum and bugle corps and I'M SO NERVOUS. I'm only fifteen!! barely old enough to get into the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets >.< Any tips from anyone who's been in a corps? I'm gonna march baritone :}

Hello! Sorry I saw this thread really late. I'm 15 and I am marching corps this summer. You have nothing to be worried about. Drum corps is all about dedication,motivation and willingness to make your self better as a person and a musician. Age does not apply to whether you have a better chance or not in making your desired corps and you will most certainly not be shunned or anything. Good luck and go for it!

hi! I was actually in the SCVC for their 2008 season. I can tell you that the audition process is VERY competitive. If you do make it in it is the hardest thing you will ever do. I'm in guard so I don't really have any tips regarding baritone sorry.

i tried out for memphis sound on tuba, and they have a very competitive tryout process, thought not as competitive as SCVC .... really, do the best of what YOU know how to do ... if you fake what you can or can't do, you aren't going to be doing yourself any favors. corps aren't about being the best, they're about being there and dedicating your time to them and learning as much as you can.
remember, corps are fun ... they are competitive ... it's everything music packed into one
