Xavier had never had the... distinct pleasure of being hospitalized before.
It sucked, to put it lightly. Some people had showed up, and his father dropped by frequently in the two days that he was kept for observation, but for most of those days he had only brooding over his state and all the self-doubt and self-depreciating that followed the halloween ball.
Maybe he hadn't been meant to be a senshi. Maybe this was all a mistake - what else could this be ? It would eventually hit him that he was being illogical, and that one ******** did not make him a failure, but it would take a few days of brooding for his negativity to settle down back to his usual composure, but now he had too much things to think about and too little to distract him from it.
With some luck, through, he'll be out of this god damn place in a few hours.

Johnny, unlike Xavier, had had the unfortunate experience of virtually living in a hospital for several weeks. The experience, coupled with the final death of the two people he'd been visiting, was enough to make the green-haired teen want to never see the inside of another hospital ever again. Everywhere he turned he saw the ghosts of his time there, catching glimpses of blonde-haired patients lying prone on gurneys or the sympathetic looks from nurses passing by. It was enough to drive anyone crazy.
But Xavier was here, and he couldn't just not visit the other teen. It would be bad form.
He hadn't brought anything with him this time, nor did he recognize any of the nurses he passed on the way to Xavier's room. Even the greeter at the front desk was different. The green haired teen was thankful for that. He was almost certain a few of the staff there would remember his face from the hours upon hours he spent at his fellow cavaliers' side. Or maybe they wouldn't. There had been so many people there, grieving, lost, just like he'd been. It was better to be anonymous again.
A nurse pointed him in the direction of his friend's room and he picked up the pace, eager to see someone who might actually be awake. He wasn't sure he could stand staying if Xavier was asleep. "I heard the masquerade ball was a real blast," Johnny commented, hovering in the doorway. Thankfully the boy in question wasn't knocked out. The teen gave a silent prayer of thanks for that.

It was a familiar voice that dragged him out of his thoughts, and in spite of it all, he smiled. "Oh, of course it was a blast." He rolled his eyes. There was a rather nasty bruises on his right cheek, and... well, the dark blue cast on his right arm was hard to miss. "Blasts of <******** fire and ice, that is."
He wasn't even kidding, or exaggerating. And he was clueless that Johnny had been there... albeit not as Johnny King. "Come on inside." He gestured with his valid hand as he sat in the bed. "I think my mind will self-destruct if I end up staring out the window another hour. It's been forever since I've seen you, man." Well, they passed each other at school, but that didn't really count.

"And plaster and bricks," Johnny added, before continuing on with only a hint of hesitation, "Is what I heard, anyways. Talk about rough. I thought it was supposed to be a masquerade ball, not a disaster. Don't suppose the convention centre is on a fault line, is it?" Xavier's presence at the ball that night didn't mean he was anything other than a simple civilian caught in the crossfire of the magical world. It was best not to let him know that he was there to witness the extraordinary events. Just as Xavier being there made Johnny a little suspicious, the reverse was always true.
The green-haired teen took the invitation with a small smile, pulling up a chair so he could sit beside the bed. At least this one didn't have his bottom imprinted in it. "It has," Johnny agreed as he settled neatly down. "Though I suppose now is as good a time as any to catch up, since you can't go anywhere by choice. I could spring you, but somehow I doubt the hospital staff would let us walk out of the front door without protest. It’s a shame you ended up here, though. Broken arm?" He nodded with his head towards Xavier's cast.

"That sounds about accurate." Though, he had to think on a pure civilian standpoint. Ice and Fire were much more up on the level of WTF than the rest of those things. It wasn't always that easy to get back to the mindset of not knowing a thing about all of this senshi, negaverse, and youma things. "I don't know... I was knocked out by some kind of blast ?" Vague was the order of the day. Vague and WTF. You don't know a thing, Xavier. "I must have hit a wall or something. I woke up here."
"I don't think they would, no." Xavier forced himself to smile, even if it was the last thing he felt like doing. None of Johnny's fault, of course, but... "Though I should be out in a few hours if they don't find anything else wrong with me." He shook his head. "Yeah... Broken arm. I guess I landed arm-first on something. Someone. Or maybe even somewhat. There were monsters all over the freaking place, too, as if terrorists weren't enough." He rolled his eyes. "It's a clean break, through, so I guess im lucky on that front..."

Blasted into a wall? Ouch. Johnny gave a sympathetic wince, pillowing his head on his arms. It was hard to tell just how much Xavier had been involved in the battle of the century that had went down at the masquerade. Even if he had been there wearing a neon sign that said "hit me, I'm Xavier" it's doubtful that the green-haired teen would have seen him at all. He'd been too busy eating a cake monster. (That wasn't something you just admitted out loud, even if the person you were talking to had been there.)
The talk turned to monsters and terrorists and the teen tried not to look uncomfortable. Calling senshi terrorists always made him squirm a little, the part of him that clung strongly to Laocoon not entirely comfortable with that term. "Yeah, easier to fix. If they let you out soon we should go for coffee or something. Provided you're not taking any heavy sedatives or pain killers, however." The last thing the other teen needed was to end up back in the emergency room. "Know any good places?"

"Yeah, im on pain killers, but we can definitively do that later." That and... Well, Bell was going to pick him up. Johnny would understand, wouldn't he ? "They're not knocking me too badly, though.." That, or he had a greater tolerance to pain that he thought he had. Wouldn't that be handy.
"There's a new one that opened up near where I work, I think you'd like it. There's a bakery right next to it, too." Bait of the century ? Maybe.
"So." Xavier leaned toward the green-haired boy. "Anything new lately ? I... uh..." How to say this ? "...met a girl."
There had been bets last year, in their last year of high school, as to if Xavier Avery even knew girls existed. This was an improvement.

“Good to know.” No coffee yet but they could work on that. Besides, there were always donuts. It was an acceptable substitute for cake. The green-haired teen’s ears would have perked had they been able to at the mention of a new coffee shop (though more so at the mention of the bakery beside it) and he fixed Xavier with a tiny “you-know-me-too-well” smile.
When the talk turned to his life Johnny pondered the easiest way to explain his current state. He supposed he could say he got mugged, since his freedom had kind of been stolen in the process, but that would mean some undue sympathy for his black eye. Perhaps it would just be easier to say he fell down the stairs. Luckily for him, however, he didn’t have to talk about himself. Xavier’s new bit of information was much more exciting.
Raising an eyebrow, he couldn’t help but ask, “Is that so? Somebody I should know?”

Of course he did. How had he expected him not to ? Not that he didn't have a similar weakness, though even Xavier had to admit that Johnny was more of a sugar addict than he even was.
That was saying something right here.
The blonde pondered that question a moment before answering it. "I don't think so ?" The irony would have been a little -too- extreme : Bell already had Tallulah to go to for blackmail and all the stupid s**t he did when he was younger, and that was well enough ! "I was.. at the ball with her, actually. She invited me." Xavier looked like a lost little puppy at that fact. "She came out of this whole mess okay, at least."

Johnny wasn't a sugar addict, he just had a healthy appreciation for some of the sweeter things in life. (He told this to himself every night as he ate his way through an entire bag of jellybeans).
"She doesn't go to Sovereign then?" The green-haired teen clarified the question a little for Xavier, though the other boy didn't seem to think they were acquainted. He probably wasn't too far from the truth. Had Johnny not been secretly gallivanting about, rescuing humans from monsters, his circle of friends would have all fit in his small dorm room. Thinking back to the ball, he tried to remember if he'd seen any girls with Xavier, though since he'd arrived during the chaos, he couldn't remember anyone in particular. There'd been girls everywhere. "Well, that's good. She come to see you?"

"No, she goes to DCU, I think ? That, or she works. Im not really too sure. I know she's done high school, though." Ah, cluelessness. Amazing. "We didn't really get to talk much before s**t hit the fan back there."
"Yeah, she came to see me earlier, but she had things to do, so she said she'd come back later. Maybe you'll see her if you can hang around ?" He had no idea how much time Johnny had, after all.

"Still in the information gathering stage huh?" Johnny teased, quietly amused by his friend's vague answers. Knowing Xavier it probably wasn't because he was trying to be elusive; rather, it was more likely he didn't know the answers. The other teen wasn't exactly the type to pry nor did he possess the kind of deduction skills that the green-haired cavalier liked to boast about (at least, not to Johnny's knowledge anyways). "The ball was your first date then? Or perhaps encounter is a better word…"
At the mention that she might be back later the teen tipped his head. To stay or not to stay, that was the question. "We shall see. I would be very interested in meeting her though. It is a very monumental occasion. Had I known I would have brought Timbits." Naturally, all things should be celebrated with sugar.

"I guess you could call it information-gathering..." He admitted, trying to banish the blush that was starting to take over his face. This was embarrassing ! So many things had happened so fast. "If I had known better I would have taken her somewhere else."
"Like you need a monumental occasion to go get Timbits." Xavier let out a chuckle.
It was then that the nurse came in, letting Xavier know that he could pack his things. "Finally !" He let out, continuing to talk to Johnny after changing, and making sure he had everything that had been brought with him.
"She's waiting for me, if you wanna come - if not, i'll call you up sometime, okay ?"
