They are not just the primary step. I mean the biggest thing that we can do is stop using ANY OIL WHATSO EVER! That sounds crazy but that is what all really Earth Scientists and people from MIT are trying to learn to incoorporate without disturbing the technology. Having less technology in a practicallity way is truthfully the thing that will save the future of the Earth. By using ONLY wind and solar power (and other green technologies) and now gasses or oils or things that are not natural in the fact that we do not have to harvest them or steal them. As odd as it may sound to meat eaters: Going Vegetarian or Vegan. I am a meat eater now, I was a vegetarian for a year, but not eating meat is one of the biggest things to prevent environmental problems. Animal factory farms and meat plants, produce more waste and pollution every year than all the airplanes, trains, and motor vehicles in the entire world combined. They let of Methane gases. By not eating meat or having meat production plants (Which are cruel by the way) we would not have this run off pollution. Organic family farms do not come across this problem because instead of having 1000 cattle on 100 acres, they have 1500 cattle on 5,000 acres or more! and they are not crammed in a barn. so this is another big step. Population control. If the united states continues to allow every household, especially ones that are low income or no income, have over 3-4 children, then within 20 years, The united States will have the same type of water scarcity and dirty water than Africans have faced for the past decades. Having population control does not mean people cannot have 6 children. It means that to have more than one or two children, they will have to adopt. So this is another solution. It may sound controlling and ruling, but it is one thing that will help future generations. Keep 6.6 billion people on the planet. let us not double this in the next 20 years (which at this rate will become 13.7 billion people).
There are many things people can do as both a whole, governments can do, and individuals can do.
People should stop worrying about today's advances and start worrying about what the future will hold for future generations and how they will have to deal with the mistakes of our doings today.
GO GREEN!
FROM HERE) I relay liked reading this! I wen't vegetarian for about 2 and a half years. I'm eating meat now to. You know the worlds backwards when its actually cheaper to be a meat eater than it is to live off of plants..

Sadly, we will use oil till the end. Plastic(made from oil) is to important a part of our standard of life(median, building, economics, ex.). Hopefully, the hole algae oil thing will work out. Then, maybe some day we could make exes of the algae oil and bury it in the ground; taking all the co2 back out.
When it comes to birth control.. i think everyone should get one birth certificate; and if they want to have more than 2 children(using both partner's certificates), they have to buy them from someone whom choses not to have kids or can't. That along with the invention of a "male pill", and making this new magic male birth control pill and pre-existing birth control free world wide would make the global population stable.
Nice thread BTW!
