He would make himself comfortable here. There had to be a way. There had to be a way to leave the ghosts of his past behind, the ghosts of their past for all Makena and his beloved Sethunya did not share his memories. But it was nearly impossible for him to settle down. That same prickling worry rose in his hackles every second Sethunya was spending time one on one with her other mate, and his plea that they spend their time together, all three of them, only seemed to upset the splotchy blue male. He didn't want to steal Makena's private time with their mate. He just...worried. Agonizingly.

He couldn't search through the rubble of his home again, couldn't find those he loved lying so still, so very still... Tendaji shook himself briskly, his dark eyes expressionless as they focused upon what looked to be one of the many shrines that the pride tended to. Perfect. He could spend his time with the god or goddess who watched over this particular corner of the pridelands, and perhaps that anxious prickling fear would be calmed by their presence, just as his stories used to calm the nightmares that poor Sethunya used to have.

His steps sure and confident, for all he didn't feel so, the powerfully build wild dog padded lightly towards the small shrine, looking about and listening curiously for any sign of its keeper. There were, he was fairly certain, a few shrines whose keeper had not yet come to find the pride. Was this one of those then?

Sutala had picked up the habit of keeping one ear tuned for any warning of incoming strangers. She was apt at disappearing before visitors to the shrine came into view, and that was how she preferred to live. Her one good friend... her only friend, Pumzi had a different step since her legs were a bit crippled. A stiff step, a slight drag. These were the only footsteps that Sutala looked forward to. Today her habit of listening for strangers had served her well, and she'd already vanished when the male dog came around the small corner that brought the shrine into view.

She watched him approach, taking care to keep in the shadows as she peered at him. Searching out his eyes, Sutala couldn't help but notice how sad he appeared. That could have been a figment of her imagination. It was easier for Sutala to interact with those that were meek and sad. She chewed for a moment on her lip before deciding to step forward, her expression hesitant.

"Hello," she whispered nervously, body braced and ready to bolt should he make any sudden moves. Tense, tense, tense.

The shrine was well kept, especially if it were one that had no keeper yet to properly watch over it. Tendaji studied one of the carvings with interest, trying to guess which god or goddess this place had been dedicated to. It was small, but there was something comfortable about it, something special. That same tingle seemed to hover in the air here, the feeling that this was a place to be treated with respect. It was the same feeling he had at each and every shrine he found while he wandered to familiarize himself with the place that he needed to make into his new home…

”Good day,” he replied, his polite response almost automatic as he finished his greeting before he’d even looked up to see the source of the quiet hello. ”Are you the keeper for this shrine?” he asked, curious for more of the stories that sounded so like the ones his mother used to tell. But perhaps…she seemed to be nervous. Was she afraid of him? So pale and hidden away in the shadows, her fur was light and should have stood out but, somehow, his eyes had simply passed over her. Perhaps he had been too intent upon the shrine to properly focus? Or maybe his presence had made her uncertain, and she’d hidden away from his sight. He could see her now though, and quite clearly she was tensed and nervous. Deliberately, Tendaji relaxed his ears back, letting them rest in a position of calm rather than the attentiveness he always assumed. Perhaps if he seemed less intense, she would be less nervous of him?

She could do this. She could try and be sociable. He seemed nice enough. Sutala shuffled from the shadows almost as if they had a tangible hold on her body. It seemed to take effort for her to move into the light and towards him. "Yes," she mumbled, peering at him with apprehension. Every word she spoke seemed as it had to be physically pulled from her mouth. With a worried frown creasing her features she continued speaking in a rushed whisper, "Souls. It's the shrine of souls."

That question was always asked, so she volunteered the information. Conversation wasn't easy for her, it never had been. He was polite, and his color soothed her for some reason. Perhaps it was the absence of color that put her a bit more at ease. She didn't like bright and flashy. Muted was better. Safer. Less nerve-wracking. Helplessly her mouth opened a bit, then closed, opened once more before she blurted softly, "Are you a visitor here?"

Tendaji waited, patient if a bit puzzled by how shy she seemed to be. His ears were relaxed, though he couldn't do too much to keep the tension from creeping into his shoulders. It was the only place the worry ever showed, the only spot he couldn't hide. But she didn't know him well, perhaps she would not notice. Sethunya seemed to be the only one who always, always knew. There was no hiding from her, no matter how stoically he schooled his expression.

"Souls?" he repeated, blinking at her before his dark eyes moved to the shrine. Souls. Truly? He had stumbled upon... His fur prickled, and he tore his gaze away from it. Surely their spirits did not linger here, not really. "I apologize, I've forgotten my manners it seems," the dog murmured. "My name is Tendaji. I'm one of the new hunters."
