Ahadi ran as fast as she could across the savannah, a very angry warthog on her tail. She hadn't meant to scare it like that, she was only looking for an adventure. And yes her adrenaline was pumping now but this was certainly not quite what she had envisioned when she ducked into that seemingly abandoned hole in the ground. It hadn't even smelled like warthog so how was she to know it was this fella's home. Glancing over her shoulder Ahadi could see the warthog's tusks getting closer. She had to think of something quick or this pig would catch up to her.

There! A large rock off to the right looked like as good of place as any to escape. She could to able to get atop of it leaving the warthog behind. Adjusting her course Ahadi reached into her reserves to run just a bit faster though her lungs were burning and her muscles wanted to quit on her. The squeal of the warthog reminded her that she couldn't slow down, not yet and when the rock was close she leapt. It had been taller than she had first thought and it meant scrambling the last little bit to get to the top before the warthogs tusks reached her.

Once on top of the rock Ahadi panted heavily while the warthog circled about on the ground, not quite willing to give up so soon. But after a few minutes the beast snorted at the female wild dog and turned away, trotting back towards its home. Ahadi laughed to herself slightly, that may have been scary for a few moments but it certainly could be considering a little adventure.

Ataro had not been at all surprised to find his sister in a mad dash from an angry warthog when he came looking for her - in fact he'd nearly ended up on the warthogs target list when the beast trundled in his direction after leaving his sister alone. Thinking quickly he'd ducked down in the tall grass to let it pass by before continuing on
towards his sibling.

"Getting into trouble again I see?" He commented as he caught up to her craning his neck up to look at her on top of the rock "You know someday your not going to be able to outrun something that chasing you" He cautioned - though he knew it was completely pointless. He liked to wander and his sister liked to get into trouble. It was a wonder they'd both survived thier pup hood when you thought about it, given that their father had raised them practically on his own after mother left.

"I wouldn't call that getting into trouble." She told her brother as she leapt down from the rock after making sure the warthog wasn't going to turn around to try for a second round. "Now that time last week with that troop of baboons, now that was getting into trouble." How was she to know that when you upset one monkey you upset them all. And it's not so easy to get away from those critters either, not only can they climb large rocks and trees but they also have a nasty habit of throwing things at you as well.

"Well when that day comes I will just make sure to anger the old and slow ones now won't I?" Bumping her brother with her shoulder and flashing him a smile. She never believed that whole thing of when you get older life slows down, Ahadi would never slow down it wasn't in her blood to do so. "And what about you? Wandering off again, you know father is gonna give you another speech about it when we get home."

Ataro rolled his eyes slightly, he thought about pointing out that by the time she figured out that 'that day' had come it was likely going to be a bit to late to worry about just whom she'd managed to anger. He nipped her shoulder when she bumped him, a fake gruff look in his face - though truthfully he didn't mind it do much when she tormented him, she was his sister and while yes a female..she was different. Siblings were special like that.

"Father and his speeches" He huffed slightly 'You'd think he would have something better to do then lecture his fully grown children" He remarked - though truthfully his father seemed to do little more then mope around - or talk about going to find thier mother. Except he was so afraid to leave the place she'd left him - in case she ever came back - that he never actually left to look..and Ataro was pretty sure his mother wasn't coming back. Ever.

"Besides - tell me you want to live in this tiny little area the rest of your entire life like dad" He challenged her "You know you don't..you know you want to see the rest of the world, theres so much more out there then here and we'll never get to see it if we keep on the way we have"

Ahadi flashed her brother a hurt look as he nipped at her shoulder, but a moment later was smiling widely. "You know father only does it because he wants the best for us. He doesn't want us to be like..." She shook her head not willing to mention their absent mother. Ahadi could barely remember her, she had been quite young when Usiku had left them. All she knew was that of all her siblings Ahadi looked the most like their mother pattern wise, though she was grey instead of purple. It was a shame really, father had done his best to raise them on his own but of all her siblings Ahadi likely wanted her mother around the most. What daughter didn't want their mother around to teach them things, especially with so many brothers.

Sighing a bit Ahadi admitted Ataro was right. "You know I don't want to stay here forever. There are so many adventures just waiting out there for me to discover. But I can't leave father behind all alone, it wouldn't be right." She may want to always run off on crazy adventures but Ahadi also knew the value of family and wasn't about to give that up just because there was something to explore off in the distance. If only mother would just come back then father would be happy once more and Ataro and her would be free to roam and do as they pleased.

"I know that, you know that" He stated "But we're adults now, not pups anymore...someday he's got to figure that out" He insisted - and then realized that he likely sounded like a rather spoiled little pup making comments like that and docked his ears back a bit "Your right, your right" He relented after a few moments

"If we left him alone he'd likely curl up into a ball and die" He stated, slightly frustrated 'I guess its sort of romantic in a way, that he loved her that much...but he's got to move on someday." He told his sister as they walked along. I mean how long could one dog sit around and pin for another? It wasn't fair - it wasn't fair to their father and it certainly wasn't fair to them. "Maybe we should find him a girlfriend...or a pet bird or something" He joked.

Ahadi rolled her eyes a bit at her brother as he went on. It was the same thing every time she brought it up, much like how father gave him the same speech every time he caught Ataro wandering off. You know those two were a lot more alike than either one would likely admit to. And if she said that he would flatly deny being any bit like father, it made her laugh ever so slightly but she shook her head before Ataro wondered about her.

"And that is why we must stay with him." It was bad enough they had lost their mother to wandering but to leave father and know that when they returned he would likely have died of loneliness was not an option. No, they just had to suck it up and stay for as long as needed, even though every fiber of her being screamed at her to go and run and have many adventures. "It is romantic..and he still loves her, I know that by the way he talks about her some times." It made her wonder if their mother loved him as much as he loved her. Well guess they would never know. Ahadi scoffed a bit at her brothers suggestions even though she knew it was a joke. "Oh sure, we can just round up all the available single females and line them up outside the den for father to choose from. You know he would never go for that, he loves her too much to ever give up hope." Ahadi wondered if she would find a male like that one day, that would love her no matter what.

Ataro knew his sister was right - his father would never decide to love another female, and their mother would likely never return - so where exactly did that leave them? The same place they were now he reckoned...it wasn't a nice thought and it left him with even more bitter feelings towards his mother.

"I don't think anyone can contend that he still loves her" He agreed - you only have to listen to him like Ahadi said, it was quite plain in his voice and even if he didn't outright say it all the time - well you had to love someone to stick around waiting for them this long. He was petty sure it wasn't completely healthy none the less."fine fine..what about the pet bird idea..or it doesn't have to be a bird, why don't you go and talk to that hog again..maybe he'd like a new friend" He mentioned brightly, managing somehow to keep a straight face at this suggestion.

Nodding slowly Ahadi listened in silence for a bit. It was something they needed to think on. I mean realistically they both couldn't stay around here forever, their other siblings had left some time ago to make their own lives leave Ahadi and Ataro to stay with father. Ataro wanted to wander and Ahadi wanted adventure. Well they could take turns, one could leave for a few days while the other stayed home, then switch. It wasn't ideal but there were few other options she could think of short of dragging father with them. And she knew father wouldn't leave, oh sure he went out to hunt and get water but he always stuck close to the den, not wanting to miss Usiku should she decide to return.

"A bird could work I suppose." And then she batted at Ataro with her paw. "Oh no, I'm not going back to that hog! I say if you want it to be friends with father then you go and talk to it." She would likely get gored if she got within a hundred feet of that burrow now, no a bird was a much safer choice. "But what kind of bird? Can't have one of those noisy ones or it will keep us up all night." Ahadi might have suggested some other type of creature to befriend their father but she had had many bad run ins with many creatures due to her adventuring ways so their options were somewhat limited.

Ataro smirked slightly when she batted him "Too bad - it would have been funny to see you running for the rock again" He told her 'You should have seen your face - looked just like this.." And he contorted his face into a highly exaggerated look of pure terror for a few seconds.

"But seriously - i have no idea, I don't know anything about birds other then that they fly.I though maybe you would since you have more uh....run in's with wildlife then I do" Ataro didn't bother with the local animals unless he was trying to ea them to be honest. "maybe if you hadn't pissed them all off we'd have a few more options" He further teased his sibling.

"I did not look like that!" She knew that at the time she had been afraid but there was no way her face was contorted like that. "Besides you should see your face when father is giving you his speeches." She tried her best to make her face into that annoyed 'I'm listening even though this is the millionth time you have told me this and I am an adult I can can what I want' face.

"Well I don't know much about them either...they always fly away any time I get somewhat close. They are really nice looking, well some of them are. But a lot of them are noisy, chirping and honking all day and night." Okay, well maybe she did know a thing or two about birds after all. Bringing her paws to a stop Ahadi gave her brother a slightly annoyed look. "I don't try to piss them off you know. It's not my fault things are so flighty when I'm just trying to get a better look at them. Just cause I'm a wild dog they think I'm out to eat them...and that's not true...well most of the time."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 04, 2010 11:16 am

He had to admit she did a pretty good '"m annoyed and not really listening face', he could actually imagine his face looking like that from time to time - probably soon since they were nearing home and like she said father was sure to have another speech ready and waiting for his return.

It was really to bad he hadn't been born deaf. "I am" He told her with a grin on his face. "And I doubt they can tell much of a difference between us" He pointed out - most of the animals in the area didn't seem to be all that smart and most likely a wild dog was a wild dog to them and they were all out to eat them.

Ahadi noted that they were approaching the rock cave they called home. Ah time for father to make one of his grand speeches to Ataro about why it wasn't good to be wandering off. "Come on, let's get home. The sooner dad gives you a speech the sooner we can take him out on a hunt." All that running today had given her quite an appetite so she was ready to eat. A smile flickered across her maw as she looked at Ataro.

"I bet I can make it home before you do." She offered the challenge and then sped off towards the rocks. Though her muscled begged her not to run anymore she was not about to back down not that she had started, win or lose she would finish this little race. Besides she could rest a bit while Ataro got his ear chewed off by father, by the time that would be over she would be well rested to go hunting.

Ataro sighed slightly as the rocks came into view - it was hardly home sweet home - more like ugly spot full of uglier memories. But it wasn't like he had a choice at the moment - he wan't about to leave his sister all alone to care for their father and as annoying as he found his father at time he didn't want to be the one responsible for his dying of misery either.

No two ways about it - he wa going back to that horrible cave with his sister and as she issued her challenge and shot off Ataro followed - although his steps were a bit slower and it would be a lie if he said he actually tried to beat her...on the contrary if one could drag their feet while running Ataro would certainly be doing so right about now. but it was time to go home and no matter of putting it off could change that little fact.
