-- Temple of Sound --

User Image

Located a few miles up into the foothills beyond Kariko Village, The Sound Temple resides in a peaceful corner of Rice Country where it has been for hundreds of years. Entering the building from the front courtyard, all one would see is a peaceful setting, with mats set up, candles everyone and monks chanting in long, low tones in front of Buddhist idols. The temple has been a center for these monks for generations and they are well known and respected as fine warriors as well... often helping to train others in the Great Dojo when not attending to their religious meditations.

However, what is not known is that the temple hides one of the greatest secrets and one of the closest guarded secrets in all the Otogakure. From entrances only accessible from the inside of the temple, ninja can come out on the side of the building, walking around a narrow porch to the back of the monastery...

User Image

Coming around the bend, you can see a back 'deck' of the building which is suspended above a sloping hill against the tree line. It all looks innocuous enough, but the wall at one point is actually only an illusion and can be walked through so long as you know that the wall in that section does not exist. An elaborate projected Genjutsu keeps the wall solid to anyone who is not thinking of "passing through the wall" as they step towards it, and thus keeps it's identity and location secret, even to the ignorant who might happen to lean against it.

Stepping through the illusion however reveals a whole new area inside the temple, which is essentially the Otogakure's Ninja Academy. this is where academy students are trained to become Genin and where many Genin come for private tutoring as well. The subterranean floors of the temple also hide the village's library of Ninjutsu and Genjutsu scrolls, keeping the secret arts of the village safe and far out of the reach of anyone. the temple is the perfect guise for this secret as it is not uncommon for people to visit and attend meditation services in the temple, and therefore it is not uncommon to see people entering and exiting the temple at all times during the day. This makes it especially convenient for the ninja who need to access the Academy, yet not arouse suspicion as to why they are always entering a monastery.

-Ninja Academy-

Tensai Ushio was one one of the more experienced academy students whenever it came to moving without arousing suspicion. Prior the his clans arrival in the Rice Country they spent several years evading Oinin squads after the Whirlpool Countries de-militirization. The majority of Tensai's life was spent keeping out of sight and by his tjirteenth year, he was able to unconsciously seem simply normal. When dressed as a villager he had no definining features aside from his liquid grey hues. In most cases, Tensai looked like just another farmers son. Too add to this illusion he actually spent alot of time aiding farmers in the Rice Paddies when he wasn't training.

As usual, the Ushio was simply meditating on a bench within the Academy. Graduation day was approaching but as far as anyone knew Tensai had yet complete any requirements to becoming a Genin. He didn't seem worried and as one of the most intelligent shinobi (if not THE most intelligent), in his year the teachers decided to let him be. They suspected he would complete the task at the last minute and come out with top marks, as expected of a shinobi who never rushed or performed anything below the Ushio clans elevated exspectations.

When Tensai finally opened his eyes it was to find a young boy hunched over with an arm full of scrolls. Tensai patiently waited for the youngest Ushio clansmen to catch his breath and raise his head of dark hair. Young Mattei grinned at his older cousin and presented the rolls of scrolls as his small chest heaved and puffed.

The corners of Tensai's lips twitched in response to the eager shinobi's action and as promised Tensai offered his cousin a small slip of paper. "As you know Mattei, by channeling your chakra into this paper you can discover your natural elemental affinity," smirked the older Ushio as he took the scrolls from Mattei. The youth grasped the small slip with both hands, eyes widening to humorous levels before he scurried off. Somehow Mattei's older sister got it into the childs mind that he was born with a natural affinity for all elements, so Tensai used the childs ignorance to further his own goals. In this branch of the Ushio Clan, ignorance was punished and sometimes severly. Young Mattei had received a slap on the wrist and would be sorely dissappointed when he discovered his affinity was for water, as it was for all Ushio clansmen.

Tensai slowly rose to his feet and began the brief trek to the Great Dojo, eager to begin his personal training in secrecy.

Kamoku walked onto the Temple grounds, looking aroud he walked into the temple, greeting many of the monks. Kamoku smiled at each of them, something completely uncharacteristic of his normal personality. He walked around and watched many of the people who walked in and out. He noticed one person entered for about an hour, then left only to come back after a few minutes. Kamoku decided to follow this person. Kamoku followed the person to a corner where they picked up a peice of the floor and went under it, replacing the tile quickly over their head. Kamoku waited for thirty seconds, as long as there wasn't a twist or a turn in this passage, then he would be able to follow easily, without chancing being noticed.

Kamoku dropped down into the tunnel, and to his surprise it actually lead into a stairwell that went up the side of the temple. technically he was inside of one of the pillars on the outside of the temple. Kamoku went up the stairwell and noticed that there was a small latch on the wall that was the end of a small hallyway. A narrow hallway actually. Kamoku walked into the narrow hallway and undid the latch softly, a small clicking noise being audibly heard. He looked out the doorway he had just opened, and saw the person he was tailing turn a right corner. Kamoku walked out of the doorway and took a deep breath, although he didn't do it audibly.

Kamoku followed the boy, who was no older than himself by one or two years, until he had reached a deck on the back of the temple. a very narrow deck at that. Kamoku siddled along the deck wondering why exactly there was no traffic here, everywhere besides in those secret passages was jam packed with people. Kamoku dismissed this thought and continued onward looking for the area where his target had gone off too. He knew his target had sped up, and turned this corner, but when Kamoku had turned the corner, he only saw the narrow deck. Kamoku sighed and returned to the corner and jumped quickly onto the wall and pushed off of it, landing in the awning above the corner. sticking his legs straight out as well as his arms he stuck there, barely breathing, so as to not alert anyone to his presence. He moved forward slightly so anyone walking from that side to turn the corner to the hidden entrance wouldn't notice him.

The figure from the bar arrived at the temple of sound, melting out of the shadows directly next to where a young boy was hiding. He showed no sign of recognizing the boy's presence as he walked to where the secret entrance was, then stopped. His right hand snapped out backwards, grabbing hold of the boy by his collar and dragging him down from the arch and pushing him up against the false wall. "And what have we here? A hopeful little spy?" The man spoke, his voice muffled slightly by his mask. He of course recognized the boy. A potential entrant to the academy, but one who had never been there. Apparently he must have followed someone. Smirking visibly through his mask, Yasashii started to push harder on the boy, pushing him through the genjutsu. To him, it would feel as if he was being crushed as he was shoved through the wall, until finally he'd pop out on the other side, and be dropped to the floor as Yasashii walked through the wall himself. "Then sit down." He said, pointing towards a row of seats in the room, only one of which was currently occupied, apparently by the boy who had been followed. But he'd deal with that later. For now, he'd have to wait. The message was being passed to students around the village by way of swallow that they should head to the academy now, so he should have a class ready soon.

Getting to the temple, Tenza looked around, the temple sure was a bit emphty today. " Alright, now we just need a teacher..." The boy spoke, looking around for someone who could train the pair, hopefully, someone he knew, just not Taki, nor his brother. He turned toward Tensai and looked at him. " From the land of water? That's pretty far. " He commented, letting out a sigh upon arrivel.

(( If your gonna train us hinote just say you heard Tenza talking... ))

Kamoku gritted his teeth together as the man plucked him down from the rafters of the arch above the walkway. This guy was good. He had found Kamoku so easily. ' My abilities are not what they should be... I must train harder or else I could very well die. ' Kamoku thought to himself heaving an inward sigh, no air escaping him and his chest remaining still as if he hadn't drawn in any breath. " Yes, what of it? " Kamoku said, as he was forced up against the false wall, stopping instantly, it felt like his face was against the wall, but in reality, his cheek was pressed to nothing. ' What the hell is wrong with this guy? There is a wall here. ' Kamoku thought to himself, feeling slight pain that gradually grew and grew until His head had gone much farther than it should have been able to go. Opening his eyes he noticed that he could see the rest of his body, on the outside of where the wall should be. Suddenly realising it was a genjutsu, Kamoku shot through the doorway falling forward, but landing on his left shoulder and rolling forward and ending his roll on a stand. Kamoku brushed off his jacket, and turned around to face the man who had easily found him.

The man wore a pale redish grey, maybe redish slate colored suit that had wrapped forearm guards, back hand guards, and a tie-able mask. You didn't see many of those anymore, normally the masks were made of tight fitting comfortable cloth that they just brought up from under their shirts. Otherwise it was a classic assassin's outfit. Nothing close to what Kamoku was wearing. Kamoku heard the man tell him to sit, and Kamoku flicked his eyes to the side where he noticed several chairs, only one of which was occupied. ' Truely a sad day when a trained ninja student is so easily tailed. ' Kamoku thought to himself smiling at the thought. Kamoku took a single step back, and then turned quickly, almost like a military marching turn and walked briskly over to the chairs, walking directly by them. Leaning against the wall in the corner where no one from the entrance to the academy could see him Kamoku made his second vocalization to this new man. " I prefer to stand. " As long as they weren't two ranks higher than he was, they would have no idea he was there, unless they had a sensory ability. Kamoku looked at the boy who was sitting in the chair infront of him, just having a fun time. " You truely are an unskilled student. Learn to cover your tracks and you could be better. " Kamoku whispered, but he had already stepped back into the darkness of the corner. Which really wasn't all that dark, but it was dark enough someone might think he was just a shadow at first glance.

Tensaiji Ushio

"The Whirpool Country is farther and alot harder to enter nowadays,"

Tensai led his comrade deeper into the temple, using one of the faster routes leading to the hidden, rear 'deck'. He could hear movement in secret tunnels as the two made their way to the deck, joining a small group of students by the time the arrived at the sloping wall. Without flinching Tensai braved the illusionary barrier with the rest of the academy students. He arrived just in time to see a single seated boy panicking and babbling about ghostly voices. Tensai frowned at the sight and wondered exactly what spooked the shinobi but he found his answer quickly enough. The ninja was pointing to the shadows behind him and Tensai eventually picked out a shock of white hair against the shady corner. The unfamiliar students features would slowly come into detail under Tensai's intense scrutiny but it was still hard to get a clear image. It was truly frustrating but Tensai decided not to spend much time worrying about it and wondered exactly who the boy was. In Otogakure very few people knew the exact number of shinobi and many could go there entire ninja career without interacting with some operatives. Even amongst the small Ushio Community there was never a confirmed number of members who were actually shinobi.

"Hmph,"

Tensai left the standing boy alone and turned his attention to the blue-haired 'teacher', covered in full shinobi fear. The slim shinobi was certaintly imposing but Tensai kept his expression fairly neutral though suspicious. He took a seat at the end of the row and waited for instruction.

( I am not accepted into the clan yet, So unless your character literally compares everything to the Ushio clan, then please take that bit out. Because until I am accepted into the clan you don't know him, and even then you probably wouldn't recognize him. He's never left Cresent Moon Island until he escaped to Otogakure. )

Yasashii shook his head, sighing as the boy refused. The sound of a large number of students entering distracted him however, as he nodded his head to those entering, noticing his nephew among them. (Modding that a bit, you're in the room now.) As the students began to take their seats, Yasashii strode forward, smacking the frantic first student in the head on his way by. had he been daydreaming to not notice the kid? Reaching the corner where the boy had hidden within a second, Yasashii once more grabbed the boy, by the scruff of his neck this time, dragging him out of the darkness and dumping him into a nearby seat as he went back to the front of the room, standing in front of the teacher's desk and looking out over the class.

"Rule number one." The teacher began. "In Otogakure, we obey our orders without question. Break this rule, and you will find only death. Yasashii stopped for a moment to let that sink in, before starting up again. "I will be teaching you for a short time. In this room, you will know me only as Sensei, outside of this room, you will not know me at all unless I make myself known to you. Otogakure values secrecy above all else. We operate silently, from the shadows, to protect our home. Very few people outside of our "village" even know we exist. As new shinobi, you are to uphold that tradition at all costs. In public, you are merely children. As you grow older, you will develop into citizens of this country, and find respectable jobs. In private, you are the invisible. Unknown, unseen, and untouchable. Is that clear?" He spoke sternly throughout his opening, and then stared out over the room as he waited for each student's confirmation. "If any of you have any questions, ask them now." He added as heads started to bob in understanding through the room.

Tensai blinked in surprise at the man's sudden hostility towards the franntic boy and briefly pondered the reason for the unexpected action. As the older shinobi took his spot behind the teachers desk, Tensai found himself slightly intimidated by his actions but he resolved to keep his emotions hidden.

When prompted for questions Tensai hesitantly sought eye contact and lifted his right hand. "Regarding the Chuunin Examinations, how are we expected to maintain our cover when our trials are broadcast for the entire Shinobi Nation? Will we be participating at all," he asked, lowering his hand once Sensei acknwoledged him.

Kamoku{|}Shiin
Otogakure {|} Academy Student {|} 18/18 {|} Profile {|} Hidden {|} Ushio

Kamoku stared at the man who had twice now found him easily. The second time was okay, but the first time, It was astonishing how quickly he had found him. Kamoku sat in the chair, his left leg up on the seat infront of him, his righ on the ground maintaining balance as he leaned backwards. Kamoku's hair had fallen into his face, covering his eyes from anyone who cared to look, as well as his nose. The only facial features shown were his mouth, and to anyone sitting on his left, his scar. Kamoku began to glare at the man in the assassin's attire as he took a stance infront of the desk. ' intelligent brute... ' Kamoku thought to himself.

Looking out of his periferal vision at Tensaiji, who had stared at him quite rudely earlier, and had made a face, one of slight intrigue, but mostly it was analitical. Honestly Kamoku had become so good at looking at someone and atleast taking in all of their physical features as long as nothing on them was concealed, he could easily tel them when passing by in the village with perfect ease. That is unless they were to change their appearance in some shape or form. Kamoku also Noticed another boy who had walked in with Tensaiji. This one wasn't much to look at, Tensaiji held himself like a noble of some sort. He also wore clothes that reflected that status. The second boy, Tenza, Looked like a regular kid with a leather addiction. Classic rebel jacket with white trim, black hair, Truely easily cast as someone who was either ambitious, or thought that their outfit had something to do with how good they were in battle. Kamoku sighed, He wore a long coat that went down to his knees, not exactly a trench coat, and tight fitting. It had a hood that could easily fall over Kamoku's face if need be, and the top of the hood was made of a see through material that would allow him to see, and hide his hair. It was an outfit that offered some symblance of fashionable freedom, but still had battle purposes.

Kamoku raised his hand, looking at the "Intelligent Brute". " I have an inquiry. What if we do not wish to have a life in this 'village' but still wish to be a part of the shinobi force? " Kamoku asked his glare turning to an inquisitive look if Yasashii could see through his hair that fell infront of his eyes. " I don't plan on staying in one place long, but when Otogakure needs me, I would return immediately. " Kamoku said still with his hand raised, He knew it wasn't polite, but this could very well be a deciding factor on if he could easily do what he wanted to do in his life, or if he would have to wait until he was stronger.

(Ok, I was unsure as to if you had looked at his profile and assumed I had yet to change it. I am sorry for jumping to conclusions.)

(Edit:
Although now that Luo has accepted me as an Ushio, it doesn't really matter anymore. So now I am even more sorry than before. )

Yasashii nodded at the two questions thus far, taking his time to think on them for a moment, as some of the other students seemed to have taken pause at them as well. "As academy students, and hopefully future genin, the chuunin exams should not be your worry for some time. However, when that time comes, arrangements will be made for you. The exams could be the perfect test of your ability to keep your identity a secret, as you could enter using a false name, and hide your appearance throughout. By the time we enter anyone in the chuunin exams, we will have been revealed to the world, making only our location the true secret that must be kept."

Finished with that, Yasashii turned his eyes to the other boy, Kamoku he believed. "Until such time as you reach the rank of chuunin or above, it is in yours and the village's best interest that you remain hidden in the village. Once you reach the higher ranks, you may gain the opportunity to take up a position outside of the village, as a hidden agent elsewhere, or as a visible ninja to be used as advertisement. We have a small number of shinobi in our forces who wear their headbands proudly in the streets. They are there for the simple task of drawing in business. Once you reach chuunin rank, your outward appearance is yours to decide, but you must always obey the laws of the village. And the most important of these laws, is to never reveal the village, or other shinobi of the village's identities. Our very existence here, relies on the fact that the other villages do not know we are here. We are slowly working towards revealing our country, but our true forces must remain secret, or we may well face war once again." He didn't expect most of these children to know what he meant by facing war. It hadn't happened in any of their lifetimes after all, and most of their parents were immigrants from other nations. But most of them would know, that there had been a war, and that the entire country had suffered for it.
