User Image It was a quiet day and Tefukono was enjoying some peace from teaching. It was not that he didn't enjoy teaching, because it was his chosen and favorite profession. It was simply that when you indulge yourself too frequently in something you love to you, you tend to work yourself into boredom from it. This was not true for everyone, but it was for Tefukono.

He lazied himself in the soft grasses of their pridal lands, flopped onto his side. His hair wafted in a gentle breeze that caused grass blad to rub against grass blade creating a soft musical chorus. It was so relaxing that his eyes began to float steadily to the back of his head in preparation for an afternoon nap.

It was than he heard some rustling in the distance, and lazily pulled his head up, noticing the aquamarine figure off in the distance. A pride member? He would wait till they ventured closer to move from his spot. For now the gentle rustling of the grass and his fur was enough to please him.

Melusine was bored out of her skull. There hadn't been much to do as of late. Though she loved to duel and battle, there was only so much she could do before even that grew tiresome. She'd taken to skulking through the grass to entertain herself, hoping that just maybe she'd find a small puddle of water in a large rock, or maybe even a small and as-of-yet undiscovered stream that she could thrash about in.

The sun was pleasantly warm on her back, but it was so dry. Thinking about the heat brought a sour look to her face, and Melusine smacked her lips distastefully. The grass was cool enough as it brushed against her bright coat, but Melusine thought that a nice dip in some water would be even cooler. And more enjoyable. She snorted softly to herself as she kept walking, catching a sudden movement in the distance.

It was a familiar enough form, so she didn't worry about walking to her doom or anything of the sort. Instead she picked up her pace, happily padding towards him with a smile on her face. She hoped he'd greet her first... she was terrible at that type of thing.

Tefukono could only gather he had been spotted by the aqua colored form in the distance and waited as it approached before he picked himself back up again. Today was his lazy day and he would go about the events of that day in his own pace.

It was several minutes past when Melusine managed to trot herself happily upon him before he opened his deep blue eyes to her and lifted his head. If one didn't know any better it were as if he hadn't known she had come upon him in the first place, but since he was the first to spot her, it was more along the lines of an intentional wait.

He returned her smile softly and yawned, "Hello. Isn't today nice?"

His tail flicked back and forth quickly, attempting to combat a horse fly that had found its way to him and decided to try and treat him as a snack. All the while, Tefukono merely smiled and headed the pesky irritant no mind. There was a pride member amoungst him and he could easily take his revenge on the horse fly later on, especially considering it probably wouldn't leave for some time. They never did.

Ahhh, thankfully he'd greeted her first. She had the terrible misfortune of coming up with awful greetings that she'd been known to blurt out almost as if the words were clawing themselves out of her mouth. Shouting things like 'I'm glad you're not dead!' and 'You've lived to see another day!' garnered her more odd glances than not, and she preferred to respond to the greetings of others by simply dipping her head and beaming about her good fortune at having escaped yet another awkward greeting.

Her eyes went first to the blue that gleamed on his pelt. Oh, that was rather pretty, now wasn't it? And he seemed so polite. That was refreshing. "It's the best day, if you like hot sunny days." She didn't. "I wish it would rain!" Oh, how she wished. "I'm Melusine. You can call me Mel. I've seen you before. I like your blue. What's your name?"

Tefukono blinked slowly at Melusine for a moment. She was an awfully fast talker for someone who seemed on the shy side. Perhaps she just didn't like the approach? He wasn't sure, but it didn't stop him from bobbing his head slightly in agreement to most of what she was saying. He was hoping her mouth would shut for a moment, if only so he could process what she was saying. It wasn't that she was annoying, she just talked as if she was in a head on collision with a tree.

"Rain would be nice, if only to help the plants grow and make the ground a little cooler to lay on," He said, nodding once more. When he came out to sunbathe, the ground had been so hot he was afraid laying down on it might actually burn him. Can you believe that? Him, the Battle Leader for the Fire Team, be burned? How preposterous.

"It's nice to meet you Melusine. I'm Tefukono and I'm glad you like my blue. It was a gift from my mother," He said, with a smile. He would not tell her of his position. After all, if she was a trainer it was her responsibility to learn the members and names of the pride's teams. Also, he figured she might freeze up on him if he told her his rank.

"Yes," she said wistfully as if she yearned for a long-lost lover, "rain would be nice. I like puddles." That much was true. She was a huge fan of puddles. She liked squishing her toes in the mud, but before the puddle got too dirty she liked swishing around in it like a fish. She missed puddles. It was too dry today.

"Tefukono," she said brightly, testing the name on her tongue. She liked it. "That's pretty. I bet your mother was pretty too. I didn't meet my mom. She died when I was born." She said it matter-of-factly. It didn't hold much of a meaning for her, really. The pride had raised her (whether they had wanted to or not) and they were her family. Sometimes she was asked if she missed her mother. She felt like she should miss her mother, but how could you miss someone that you'd never met? It was confusing. So Melusine would just smile that peculiar little smile and nod that little nod and go on her way.

"Do you like to duel? Do you have a familiar?" Melusine didn't. She wanted one badly. "I don't. I want one badly."

"That's very sad, Mel. I'm sure she'd be proud to see you now," Tefukono commented quietly. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to not have his mother, or his father for that matter. If either or neither of them weren't around he might not have been either. After all, it was his parents that kept the plague that devastated their pride from claiming his life when he was younger.

Did he want a familiar? That was a good question he posed himself from Mel's musings. He didn't think he wanted one. Sure, they were useful and it was something that many in the pride expected him to have, but he didn't feel the need to. He shook his head to her as he responded, "No, I don't have a familiar. I don't think I would want one."

That was probably regarded as something odd to come out of the mouth of a Battle Leader, but she did not know he was a Battle Leader, so no harm no foul.

"I do like to duel, but not today. Today is my rest day," He said with a nod, hoping to drive the point home he had no want of battles for the day. Just laziness.

Melusine's brow creased as he mentioned it was sad, and she tried to school her face into some sort of sad expression as she gave a little nod. She came across looking like she'd stepped on something sharp, or eaten a bug that was absolutely vile. The look was gone as swiftly as it appeared as Melusine's mind went to much more important things.

"Why don't you think you'd want a familiar?" That was weird, but she kept quiet. That would be rude to say. She wanted at least four familiars. That would be neat. "I have a friend that has like, eight familiars." No she didn't. Mel didn't have many friends at all, and none of them had a familiar.

"I like to duel too, but yes, not today. It's too dry." It was so hot, how could he look like he wanted to just doze off?

"It complicates things," Tefukono stated simply, quirking his head at the bit about her friend having eight familiars. He had never heard of anyone in the pride having eight familiars, not even the Champion himself. Perhaps this was a recent event that he had yet to hear of. After all, he had been very busy with helping others in their battles.

"It's better that it's dry, than it be moist and hot. We'd all be hiding from the sun than," He aid with a nod, finally feeling the strain of lifting his head up like this and instead rolled his whole body up from its resting position. The movement made him feel warmer all of a sudden.

"Water Team, right?" He asked, guessing by her constant mention of the the cooling liquid. Also, she was as blue as they came, and very brightly so. If she had anymore green in her, she may have been moved over to the Grass Team or get stuck in some sort of limbo for having such a mixture of the two. His mother had been on the Water Team, his father the Ground Team. It was simply a stroke of luck that he had come out so orange, all from a paw marking on his father's side.

When he changed the topic from familiars back to the weather, she looked sad. "I wish it'd rain," she murmured sorrowfully, a soft sigh wracking her body. The heat was miserable, but he was right -- the sticky muggy feeling of heat mixed with moisture was so unpleasant. A nice refreshing rain would be so nice.

"Yes, Water Team. I'm a Trainer," she enunciated the words carefully. They didn't really hold much weight with her. She had no wild aspirations of becoming a Battle Leader. She dueled for fun, nothing more. It was something to do when she was bored, when she wasn't thinking about how much she wanted to play in water. Melusine supposed there was some importance to the endless training and constant duels that some members seemed so interested in, but Melusine did it only for fun.

"You gotta be on the Fire Team, right?" This was getting kind of boring. Couldn't they talk about familiars again, or maybe water? Mist? Fog? Melusine smacked her lips. Why was it so dry today? She was so thirsty.

Tefukono nodded to her once more, validating her guess at him being of the Fire Team. She looked very uncomfortable, and her persistent mention of water of some kind made him gather that perhaps she wanted a swim or a drink. He knew of a small watering hole nearby connected to an equally small stream, and thought that perhaps it may quench this lionesses thirst.

"There is a watering hole nearby that leads into a stream," He mentioned casually, looking in the direction he knew the water to be.

She was a funny lioness, but still rather pretty despite her quirks. He could see how some would find her annoying, especially with her one track mind, but sometimes those personality traits could be used for the better. You just had to learn how to hone those.

Melusine perked at the mention of water. A stream? How had she not heard of this? With a sly look in the direction he indicated, Melusine brightened considerably. Now the only problem was figuring out how to excuse herself without appearing rude. She didn't want to be rude. He'd been so nice, and he was probably her best friend since he told her where the stream was.

"I have to go now," she said, edging away from him in the direction of the water. "You know, stuff to do, battles to fight." She could almost feel that water soaking into her skin, drenching her in its coolness. Maybe she'd spend the rest of the day there just wallowing in the cool rush of the little stream.

"Itwasnicetomeetyou," she blurted forcefully, obviously waiting for him to accept her farewells so that she could be on her way. You know, battles to fight. Stuff to do.

Tefukono was absolutely amused by how quickly Melusine was attempting to excuse herself so she could go frolic in the water that he had pointed out to her. There was obviously a reason she was on the Water Team and it just wasn't her blue coat. This lioness simply loved the feel of water.

Tefukono nodded to Melusine and smiled to her, "It was nice to meet you too, Mel. Have a good day."

When he was finished reciprocating the goodbye he watched as Melusine whisked herself away in the direction of the water source. As she did so, Tefukono lifted himself up off the ground and began to walk lazily behind her at a distance. He wanted to see the behavior of this female as she hit the water's surface. He hoped she realized that since it wasn't a large watering hole or stream that the water was probably not all the cool.

His laughed to himself and mutter, "So interesting."
