First, think about the type of guild you want to create. Do you want a Role-playing guild? A guild to help you raise awareness of the evils of the PETA? What type of community do you want to create? What is the name of your guild with this in mind?

All right, the reason for step 1, is so you can do step 2. Open up your favorite Word Processor (I usually use Microsoft Word) and type up an Explanation of your guild and it's goals. After this, type up the rules for your guild. These should include how what you say goes, otherwise, people WILL walk all over you and pretty much hijack the guild even if you're still listed as it's owner. It should also include behavior guidelines. Do you want to have someone cussing, damning and pretty much pissing everyone off? Think of everything that can go wrong and try to make a rule to curb it.

Next, you should make some banners. The Official Banner of the guild that will show up on the registry needs to be 200x40 pixels. Any bigger or smaller and the site won't accept it. I'd suggest, after making this banner you make some signature banners for peoples Gaia signatures and then some that are just plain BIG. Someone somewhere always finds a use for a big banner.

All right, have all that typed up? Then we're ready to actually put the guild up. First, log in on GaiaOnline, then go to Community -> Guilds -> Create.

All right, you should be at a page that asks for the Name, Description, Banner, Entry Fee amount, if you'll Allow Join Requests, if you want your guild to Hide from Registry, and then finally the Category, and Type. You should be able to type in the Name, copy and paste the description from your Word processor - I might suggest putting your rules in afterwards - and Banner. The Entry Fee amount is what a person will be donating to the guild upon entry. This will go into the guild account and be able to be put towards new forums. I'd suggest making this low to start off with if you've got 5k gold to donate to the guild. If you don't, I'd suggest at least a 500 gold donation to start with. That way, all you need is five people to join and you can have a brand spanking new forum. I would put a dampener on "n00bs" at first by not allowing guild join requests for the first few weeks, as well as hiding from the registry. Instead invite friends to the guild and ask them if they know anyone who would enjoy it. Send invites to them as well with the same question. Invite their friends, but then stop there. Let everyone get accustomed to each other for a few weeks before you let the guild be seen and let guild accept join requests. I'd also suggest making the guild type hidden if your guild is a Role-play community. Or at least private so that people can't just come in and post randomly that aren't even part of the guild. As for guild Category, there are Categories: General, Discussion, Anime, Manga, Role Playing, Gaming, Art, Interest Based, Commerce, Spam, Political, Military/Army, Foreign Language, Entertainment, Breedables, zOMG, Music, and finally Regional. You're the best person to decide on the Category.

Well, now you've got your guild. Before you send your invites, you need to put up at least three threads: Rules, Updates and an Away thread. Rules is self explanatory. Updates should be put up so that if say, you need to change the rules or there is a new thread that people should pay attention to, they can take a look. The Away thread should be a thread that anyone can post in to say 'hey, i'm going to be gone for so and so time for so and so reason'. This is so that if you either A) have a rule on activity and won't ban them for their legitimate inactivity or B) have a community that really does care for each other, having this thread will keep anyone from freaking out and wondering if someone's dead or hurt.

All right, threads up? After making those threads, I'd suggest guild content threads then. If you're a thread for art, make a thread for people to post it up. Or even better, if you've got enough gold in your guild account for a new forum, make a forum for it where each person can have their own portfolio thread. If your a Role-play thread, post up a thread with the story/background and then a thread for profiles. I'd suggest a base OOC thread where people can talk for this type of guild, or a forum. I'd also suggest that you make a forum for the role-play in this guild.

Invite your friends, your friends' friends, and then, if that isn't enough people, your friends' friends' friends. Let them post and play in your new guild for a few weeks, then open your guild up to the general public to see.
