This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [lungrot] and Kiran [Kazu-chan].
Setting: Sakngea books it from an angry mob(!?) in the city and is saved by a street-savvy boy named Kiran.

"Aw sh--" Sakn started as he realized that the boy he had picked a fight with had a whole posse with him. Of course, he never got to finish since one of the big, bulky guys that pipsqueak had called on punched him square in the face. Blood exploded from Sakngea's mouth as he bit down on his cheek, and he stumbled back. Damn! That was a punch. The boy laughed sharply and wiped his face, smearing blood from the corner of his lip.
Of course, when he looked back up, his stomach dropped. Nearly two seconds ago there had only been two big guys and Mr. Chickenboy-can't-fight-his-own-fights, but now the redhead found himself staring at nearly five big men, all angry and ready to beat him senseless.
(Okay, so sure, maybe he shouldn't have broken Mr. Crybaby's nose, or rubbed his face into the dirt, or kicked him in the head, but the kid had been asking for it after he pissed the fisher boy off!)
Now, this was the moment when Sakn had to think. Was his pride worth being beaten horribly and entirely, or would it be better to run now and fight another day? The redhead eyed the guys again, glared and then swallowed his pride (nearly choked on it too!) before turning tail and running. Not that he didn't totally rudely gesture to the angry group of pig-nosed cityfolk before he ran.
Perhaps that's why they chased after him. Or maybe it was the 'Can' catch me, y'uglyfaced lunkheads!' insult. Who knows. Either way, the boy soon found himself booking it from a group of burly men (their scrawny idiotic boss had stayed behind to nurse his wounds-and cry to his mother, probably!), laughing wildly and taunting them as he shoved and leaped through the crowd of people that filled the streets of the city.
Of course, when you don't live in the city, there is only so far one can go before they get lost. Sakn soon found himself in that prediciment as he took another turn down a less busy street, and found himself running down an narrow alley and heading straight for what looked like a dead end.
"Oh gods," the redhead groaned, hearing footsteps crashing through puddles as his own personal angry mob started to catch up with him.
He was so going to get his head cracked today. And this his mother was going to kill him, if these guys didn't first!

Kiran bit into an apple as he weaved through the people crowding the street. He was on his way to one of his favorite haunts to watch the people and eavesdrop on their conversations. It felt like a slow day to him. Even just wandering the street, he didn't catch soundbites from many conversations of interests.
How boring, he thought as he took another bite from his apple. He wished something more exciting would happen today.
Then someone shoved at him from behind, making him drop his half eaten apple. He caught sight of red hair disappearing into the crowd. Before he could shout out a protest at the man, another person shoved at him. A much bigger, and uglier, man with some lackeys trailing behind him. The rudeness aside, this seemed like a much more interesting way to spend his time.
Kiran trailed after the group, easily keep out of sight. The big, ugly men didn't seem to be paying much attention to anyone other than the red head they were following. Then he saw the red head duck down a narrow alley and cringed. Kiran knew he wouldn't be able to escape that way. It wasn't quite a dead end, but not everyone would know the way to get out of that tight spot.
Ducking down a different alley, Kiran followed it until it met up where the other one turned into a dead end. The fence dividing the two alleys had a loose board that he could push aside. If the red head was skinny enough, he would be able to fit through it. The men following the red head were much to big to fit through the gap. Once he had the board pushed aside, he poked his head through and whistled to get the red head's attention.

Crap crap crap!
Sakn was panicking now, adrenalin pounding through his veins as he rushed down that narrow alley. There was a tall wooden fence at the end, and he thought that maybe if he took a running start, he might be capable of leaping it. But as the boy got closer he realized how smooth the siding was, how there was no way for him to grip the top(even if he was tall and gangly). Sakngea's stomach dropped and he turned around, raising his fists.
Well, it seemed like he was gunna have to fight these guys. It would be ugly, brutal and bloody, but he'd go down fighting at least.
Or so he thought. The five muscle-monsters barreled around the corner, slamming against the wall as they attempted to turn the corner, and thats when Sakn heard it. It was as if the gods had called him, and he turned around to see a young blue-haired boys face peeking through the fence.
It was that kid. The one from the festival!
The fisherboy stuck his tongue out at his aggressors before turning tail and squeezing through the fencing when Kiran(that was his name, wasn't it?) moved out of the way. There was much thumping and yelling from the other side of the fence, and a big burly hand even dared to stick through the small slit that Sakn had just barely managed to slip through(he was tall, and awkward, after all). Sakn, with pleasure, kicked that offending limb, and grinned when it shot back; a pained howl emanating from the other side.
Then the voices faded. Dumb men never stay long, and Sakn laughed lightly, leaning forward to place his hands on his knees. "Y'saved my life," he gasped, looking up at Kiran with a grin. "Kiran, righ'?"
Hopefully he had the names right now. He'd only met the kid once before.

Watching the other Lunarian struggle through the gap in the fence, Kiran worried that perhaps it wasn't wide enough after all to let him escape from the burly men that were chasing him. He chuckled when he heard the one man howl in pain after having his hand kicked. Serves him right, Kiran thought as he shoved the fence board back into place.
"All in a day's work," Kiran said, shrugging it off like it was no big deal. He tilted his head as he looked the man over, trying to place why he looked familiar. Then he snapped his fingers. "You're the checkers guy. Um," he searched his memory for the man's name. "Sakng?" he questioned uncertainly.
He knew he probably had that wrong. Sometimes names weren't his strong point. And they were never properly introduced during the festival. He also might have been paying way more attention to the game of checkers than to the man's name.
"You remembered my name," Kiran said with a grin. He glanced back at the fence. It sounded like the men had moved on by now. "So why were such an ugly bunch chasing after you?"

Sakn raised a brow as the blue-haired boy tried to say his name. He then laughed, because the boy made an interesting face as he finished the sentence in an almost-question. "I's close 'nuff," the redhead joked before adding, "I's Sakngea, but jus' cawl me Sakn," since he didn't want to leave Kiran confused.
He kinda glad that the boy actually remembered him. It was nice to know that people remembered him. Meant he had a strong personality, which helped to stroke his ego.
He came back to as Kiran spoke again, and nodded happily. "C'urse I did! I gotta knack fur remembering names," he had an astounding skill at it actually. Once he knew a persons name, he could easily remember them years later. Just one meeting was all the redhead needed.
The next question made Sakn's face burn slightly, a tint of pink under his red and gold scales, a blush across the cheeks. "Them?" he asked, voice breaking just the tiniest with embarrassment. He totally had hoped Kiran wouldn't ask, because it was horribly unmanly for him to have run and he didn't wanna remember that.
"Well, uh, I mayya beat up their boss, maybe," he gave a slightly awkward laugh then before shaking the awkwardness away and returning to being a proud fat cat, "Of course, he totally deserved it! Sh'uda seen whut I did ta him! And he was too chicken t'even beat me up'imself! Ha to have his boys do it. C'ulda beat'm too, if I had been expectin' it!"
The fisherboy's voice rose as he continued to speak, pumping himself up and reassuring himself that he was still brave, still awesome. Sure, what he said was totally a lie; an exaggeration, but it was enough to make the redhead smile happily and glance back down at Kiran.
"An' you? Is savin' people jus'a hobby of y'urs?"

Kiran winced a little when he realized the mistake he had made on the Lunarian's name. He could have butchered the name far worse than he did, but that didn't erase the small amount of guilt that he felt for not getting the name exactly right. "A better knack than I do, that's for sure," Kiran agreed with a chuckle.
"Sure, sure," Kiran said with an amused grin. It probably wasn't the best idea to mess with someone who had a bunch of big lug headed Lunarians to send after him. Not that he could say anything against, since Kiran was guilty of a situation like that once or twice in his lifetime. He ran too. It helped that the lug heads that chased him weren't much for scaling trees and walls.
"I try not make it a habit, but I just can't seem to help myself when I see someone in trouble," Kiran said, grinning as he folded his arms behind his head. Actually, he didn't rather like saving people, though it probably just added to his already big head. Not that he would ever admit to having a big head or an even bigger ego.
Kiran started walking back down the alley. "You should really get to know the streets better if you're going to end up in situations like that," he told Sakn as he threw a glance back at the red head over his shoulder. "Usually not a good idea to run down an alley with a dead end."

Sakngea couldn't help the grin that spread across his face when Kiran spoke so lightly of his 'helping' problem. It was as if the boy didn't want to brag about his acts of heroism. This made the redhead smile, and he shook his head as silence ensued for a moment. This boy was a strange one.
His fins twitched though when Kiran mentioned the whole dead-end fiasco. Yeah!? So what if he didn't know these streets like the back of his hand! He was fisherboy, not some soft city kid. The boy was turning a bright shade of frustratingly embarrassed pink when Kiran glanced back at him, and while the kid was berating him, he wasn't being a jerk. So Sakn scratched his cheek and pushed down his volatile temper and instead grunted and said in a rather down-trodden, butt-hurt tone, "I cudda taken'm..." before kicking a small crumpled up piece of paper down the alley. After a moment though, the redhead got over his sudden mood swing and jumped back into conversation with a offer that was more of demand, or maybe a badly stated question(?), "Iffin ya know des streets so well, ya best show me 'round'a bit!"
Mainly Sakn said this so he would know better later on, but also because he was rather bored and perhaps Kiran would be able to show him some interesting places today; it was a safer way to pass time then picking fights at least!

A blue eyebrow lifted up as Kiran watched Sakn in his usual curious manner. His habit of observing people wasn't limited to simply watching from above. Sakn seemed to be turning an interesting shade of coloring, and a small grin of amusement twitched at Kiran's lips. "I'm sure you could have," he agreed, the grin threatening to explode across his face.
He continued walking along the alleyway, knowing this area fairly well. "Oh? Hm," Kiran paused to pretend to think about that. "I suppose I have the time to show you around." His shoulder rolled in a shrug like it was no big inconvenience to play tour guide. "Anywhere in particular you want to see?"
There were plenty of area in the city that he was less familiar with. Not that he would ever admit to that. He would shrug and claim to be showing him the scenic route, if asked if he were lost. After all, he wouldn't want to look silly by getting them lost in a less familiar area.
"You know," he started as he turned back onto the main street. "We never really settled that game of checkers."

Sakn shrugged lightly when Kiran asked him if there was any specific place they should go. "Let's go some where you find fun," the redhead suggested before glancing around them, taking in the buildings that surrounded them before focusing on the bustling crowd that they were merging with.
He almost didn't hear Kiran as the boy mentioned checkers. Thankfully he did though, and Sakn's eyes lit up, because playing checkers reminded him of that little bag of gold the girl(Enlei?) had left for him. Which made Sakn want to win more money. So he clapped Kiran on the back and said in his most excited tone, "I thinks I gotta idea," he then continued, "Y'wanna playa game a checkers, yeah? Le's make it interestin'," from there, Sakn outlined his plan in lowered tones as they waded through the crowds. They would set up a checkers game, and offer bets on who would win. After a few rounds of one of them losing miserably, the stakes would be high! That's when the other person loses, and they win a bunch of money in the end!
When he finished explaining, the redhead looked excited and hyped. It would be fun, definitely, and he hoped the blue-haired boy was adventurous as his attitude insinuated.
"Sound like fun?"

Fun caught his ear, and Kiran grinned. He liked fun, and if the earlier incident was any indication of what Sakn meant by fun, then Kiran would be all for it.
"Interestin' eh?" Kiran wondered what Sakn meant by that. His question was answered a moment later as the red head explained his idea to him. The grin remained in place upon his face as he listened intently to the plan. The only thing that bothered him was that he hadn't been the one to think up such a great plan. He doubted there would be any way for his mother to hear about a scam like this, which only made him like the idea all the more. The crybabies around his family home were always tattling on him as soon as they realized that they had been swindled.
"I like your thinking." And he liked the idea of making lots of money. Selling fish wasn't always a big profit maker for him. Especially when he didn't find time to sneak off to do some fishing during a busy week. And there were only so many fish he could catch with a single rod while sitting perched at the shore of a lake or river. He couldn't catch huge loads of fish like the fishers who sailed out to sea on their ships.

They walked for a few minutes more before Sakn spotted the perfect spot to play at the corner of two streets. Lots of traffic, and several other betting tables gave show to how willing these people were to spending their money. Sakn motioned for Kiran to wait in the crowd for a moment, stating that it would be more realistic if he showed up after Sakn had set up the set.
With that settled, the boy quickly moved over to a free spot on the dusty ground, and pulled out the leather pack that held his prized black and white stones inside it, and dumped the contents onto the ground. He nearly lost his piece of drawing chalk to the feet that bustled past, and after retrieving it from the crowd, the redhead drew out the gameboard and set up the pieces. People ignored him at first, uninteresting in what seemed like a strange and childish game, and Sakn slyly motioned for Kiran to come his way. When the blue-haired lunarian was within sight and hearing, Sakn then called to the young man, as if he was a stranger, "Y'there! Boy wit'da blue hair," he pointed at Kiran then and continued, "yeah, you! Com'r. Y'wanna play a game of wits and skill? Y'could win something outta it!"
Peoples heads turned when he mentioned winnings, and the redhead knew he had them hooked, line and sinker. He poured out some coins onto the ground beside him, flashing them at Kiran(and the eyeballing crowd) before saying, "Com'on boy, I ain't got all day! Bets to make, money to win! Plen'y other fish in d'sea if y'take to long!"
He motioned to the small crowd that had stopped around him, enjoying the way they all looked at Kiran. Yes, this was definitely a money-making business here. As long as they didn't get caught for cheating.

Kiran nodded in agreement. He understood well the need for people not to suspect their plan. If they showed up and sat down together, it would look far too suspicious to the crowd watching. As Sakn went to set up the table, Kiran took his time leisurely strolling down the area, pausing from time to time to observe other games going on. He tossed a glance every now and again at Sakn, waiting for his cue.
When he caught the gesture, Kiran made his way over toward the table but halted some distance from it so that it looked like he was watching a game at the next table over.
"Y'there! Boy wit'da blue hair."
Kiran turned toward Sakn. A half frown crossed his face as he pointed to himself, like he couldn't be sure that the man meant him. Scratching his head, he walked over to the table at which Sakn sat. He looked puzzled by the set up on the table.
"Oh, I don't know," Kiran said uncertainly. He pulled out his own purse of coins and jiggled it so the coins jingled loud enough for the crowd around them to hear. There wasn't very much in his purse, but he hoped that would change with this plot.
"Go on! Give it a go," an old man encouraged, giving him a push.
Kiran shrugged and took a seat opposite Sakn at the table. He set his purse on the table. "I guess this game doesn't look too hard." He had, of course, watched Sakn play the game very closely during the Festival.

Sakngea grinned cheekily at Kiran as the boy sat across from him. And now the games would begin.
They played a few matches, trading sharp words that were teasing and lightened by their laughter. Sakn would glance around casually as they played, taking time to call for bets between matches and glowing with pride as their little scheme called many eager gamblers to their table. And each time someone would cry out to play next, Kiran would happily tell Sakn he wished to have one more match, and the games would start again.
Soon they had made more then enough money(Sakn felt the greed twist in his stomach, excited and hungry), and Sakn gave the blue-haired boy a look before opening his mouth--
"THEY'RE CHEATERS! DON'T BE FOOLED!" the voice broke through the crowd; a rat-faced man pointed accusingly at Sakngea and Kiran, and the redhead's stomach plummeted. By the gods, this wasn't good. "I saw them earlier, together, whispering. They are fooling you all, trying to cheat you out of your well-earned money! Don't be fooled," but the time he finished, Sakn had already stuffed a good amount of the winnings into his belt-purse, along with his playing rocks. And good thing to, because in the next moment, all those eyes turned on the two boys, anger evident on their faces.
"RUN!" Sakngea yelled then, standing up quickly and kicking a wooden crate near by at the crowd when a group of muscled men started to advance. It seemed today was all about dodging trouble, and Sakn hoped Kiran knew this city well enough to lead them away. The redhead quickly started moving away from the crowd, trusting his companion to keep up.
As they pushed through the crowds of people, resistant asses in front and angry mob behind, he called out to Kiran, "Which way!?"
Hopefully they would get out of this with the cash and their hides intact. "

Kiran was enjoying the games that they played, even though it was all planned out. Each move they made was strategic so that the one of them kept losing. But it made him want to play a real game against Sakn all the more. Maybe when they were finished taking these nice people's money, they could have a real game and see who was the better player.
Everything was going as planned, Kiran noted as the money piled up from the onlookers placing their bets. It was more than he had made on any of his previous scams even after dividing it up evenly between them. Which actually wasn't that hard to accomplish since nearly all the money he made on prior scams ended up being returned. But this scam was working too perfectly, and it seemed like they would get away with it and keep all the money.
Then came that man's shout. Kiran felt like he had been plunged into a pool of icy waters. He had gotten too much into it, believed too much that they could get away with the scam. But he should have been cautious, knowing that when he was involved, things never went well. But like Sakn, he didn't simply sit there while the man blew their scam. Kiran shoved as much of their winnings into his purse. Some coins spilled onto the ground, bouncing and rolling away. Even with a few lost coins, they would still be well ahead of the game.
Kiran had already sprinted off as Sakn yelled. He weaved his way through the streets, keeping an eye on Sakn. If either of them slowed down, that mob would catch them, and he hated to think what might happen then.
Which way? That was a good question, and Kiran sifted swiftly through his knowledge of the layout of the city. "This way!" Kiran shouted back, skidding as he rounded a corner down a different street. It was a much narrower street, which at the very least, would limit the mob somewhat.
