Ahava (Kaori_luv)
Astar (Mogami)

Kaori_luv
Ahava sat low in the grasses, ready to take down the gazelle just a few feet off. She'd been asked by the nannies to bring back a meal for the cubs as the were hungry. That was the way with cubs they ate, slept and played.

She watched as the gazelle grazed completely unaware of the lioness, poised and ready to strike. The creature even moved ever closer to her at it grazed. As soon as the gazelle was close enough Ahava jetted toward it.

The gazelle ran zigging and zagging in attempted to shake the female, but the lioness anticipate this and watched closely. Zig, Zig, Zag, Zig, Zig ... Ahava struck cluthing down on the gazelles neck and holding the creature tight to snuff out its life.

Many things were bothering Astar. For one, her family felt a little different but it was something she was getting used to – albeit slowly. Then there was that whole totem thing. She was an adolescent now and the others expected her to find a companion creature. Some of her friends had already found their bonded animal and Astar was growing impatient and worried. It also bothered her that she had no idea what kind of creature she was going to get stuck with and the things that were implied by the totem’s species. But most of all, there was one thing that was really frustrating the young patched lioness at the moment: her inability to hunt.

She watched the herd longingly until a flash of movement caught her green gaze. What was that? Someone was hunting! Astar followed the running lioness in wonder and the hunt was over in an instant. The adolescent was trotting towards the adult before she’d even noticed it. She wasn’t quite sure what to say so Astar decided to just sit until the other had finished the job, giving the other lioness time to catch her breath.

Kaori_luv
Ahava looked up as soon as the other approached, but she did not recognize her so she gave her an annoyed looked. Releasing the newly dead gazelle, she closed her eyes and thanked the creature before returning her attention to the young female.

"Yes," she said feel wandering what the other could possibly want. It was obvious that she was busy. "Can I help you?"

Mogami
Astar had long decided that she’d never be a burden on her parents again and the epitome of that decision was her desire to become a full-fledged Huntress of the pride. Mom and dad would be proud, she assumed, and the lioness would finally find her place in this new home. However, learning how to hunt on her own (Astar didn’t really want to bother her parents as much as provide them with a pretty final result) but her feeble attempts were… well, amusing – honestly, rather than showing “provider” qualities they belonged on the to the “entertainment” category.

The young lioness’ paw rose hesitantly when the other looked at her. Oh dear, she hadn’t intended on being a bother. Actually, she wasn’t sure what she wanted.

“I… saw you. You are so skillful, I was very impressed.” She was nervous and the words seemed come out different than the way she’d heard them inside her head. “I want to be a Huntress!” These last words burst out before she could help it and Astar looked slightly frustrated. She must’ve looked like an idiot.

“I mean, I must be trained. A mentor will be assigned to me but… when I saw you… will you teach me?” the patched lioness eyed Ahava with intent – and perhaps a little desperate – green eyes.

Kaori_luv
Ahava nearly laughed when the rush of words came out of the young female and then slowed. It was so awkward, but Ahava was very flattered.

"Thank you," she said softly, "I still train everyday to keep in the best shape possible."

Ahava looked into the desperate green eyes and though she heard the females reason she could not help but to wonder why her mother wasn't teaching her. It seemed that would be the way of thing, though when she thought on it she did not even know if the girl had a mother.

Ahava stood and walked around the little female, looking her over and frowned slightly. The other would need much training, she hardly seemed a huntress now, but Ahava summed that it wasn't impossible.

Ahava nodded, "If you think you’re up to the vigorous training regiment, than I would be more than happy to teach you. I am Ahava, Eyal's younger sister. Who might you be?"

Mogami
The patched adolescent tensed a little as Ahava circled her – causing her to immediately stand a little straighter – but Astar’s face quickly lit up in a big smile as the lioness accepted her request. She happily returned the greeting.

“I am Astar. My parents have joined the pride not too long ago but my grandmother was part of the En Gedi. I believe it was Eyal who greeted us at the border.”

Astar sat, little worries immediately crawling through her. Was she overstepping her place? Perhaps it had been rude to approach the female – Eyal’s sister at that! – and ask for her guidance so bluntly. Well… Ahava had accepted so maybe it would be okay.

“I will work hard. I will do anything you say.” She said seriously and it was clear she meant it.

Kaori_luv
"Ah, yes," said Ahava. "I have seen you're family about and am very happy to see that you are settling in to the pride. It is a great joy to us to have new members."

Ahava sat beside the young lioness her assessment of the little one finished for the moment. "Astar is a lovely name and you are a lovely little girl. You will have to work hard, but I am certain you will be able to obtain the skill of a great huntress. How about a first assignment to help build you strength?"

Mogami
“Thank you. We’ve been very happy to receive such a warm welcome from everyone.”

She wasn’t all that pleased at being called little, though. Granted, she’d always been on the small size but she hoped that with the abundance of food would slowly fix that. And though she did like her name, the young lioness wasn’t quite as fond of the nickname that usually followed it… Afstar…half-a-star. Well. It was amusing sometimes. And lovely? Was she…? She’d always figured her sister to be the pretty one, the lively one what with her pale pelt and lilac eyes. Astar wasn’t used to being called pretty (unless one were to count her father’s compliments but a father’s words are usually just a little too partial to take seriously) so she didn’t really know how to respond to that.

“Oh, yes ma’am!” Well, that she liked. Training, action. Working hard towards her goal sounded just like what she wanted. “What kind of assignment?”

Kaori_Luv
Ahava smiled at Astar happy to see she was eager to learn. It excited her and she instantly like the girl who reminded her of herself as a little one. She hoped the younger lioness would do well.

"You're first assignment will be to help me bring this kill back to the pride. The nannies have asked for this and so I need to get it to the hungry little cubs. Are you up for the task?"

Mogami
“Oh yes, definitely.” Astar said eagerly, moving closer to the gazelle, looking for the best spot to grab the prey beast. She finally settled with the neck, carefully avoiding the pointy horns as she bit down and proceeded to drag the carcass. It was heavier than it seemed.

Likethis?” she asked in a muffled tone, approval-seeking eyes never leaving the older lioness as the adolescent tried to make a good first impression.

Kaori_Luv
Ahava watched the cub with an amused smirk and nodded her approval. "That is just fine, perfect in fact." She moved around the adolescent and the kill to grab the rump and help drag. It would be slower this way, for her, but it would give Astar a real work out. Once they got the kill to the nannies Ahava would make sure to let the cub know she was expected for training at sunrise and not to be late, but for now she simply pulled, enjoying the company of the determined young lioness.

Mogami
Astar looked immensely happy and even a little bit relieved when Ahava started helping. She’d never tried dragging a gazelle and this was an adult one, big and muscular. The cubs would be happy to see them. She was quite pleased with their destination. It always brought a warm feeling to the patched lioness to be around the little playful cubs that weaved around the adults’ paws, rubbing against them with content purrs as they asked for attention, food and stories. Astar had a saint’s patience for them and she almost regained her lost cubhood just by being just by being close to the young cubs. She kept pulling the gazelle by the neck often glancing back at the lioness who would be mentoring her from now on, a small smile slowly widening despite her best efforts to remain serious as composed.
