The year is 2013, and things are not good. In 2010 something happened, something bad, the Yellowstone national park, home of the largest super volcano in the world, blew up. Ash and lava spread across America, spreading into Canada and Mexico, the ash created an eternal night over the western hemisphere of the world. As countless Americans fled to other countries the leaders of those countries began fighting to fill the void left by the United States, warring over the eastern half of the world as the west burned and died. No one knows who struck first, but after the first strike bombs flew. While the western hemisphere burned the eastern half was consumed by war and eventually, when the dust settled, the entire planet was shrouded in ash and noxious fumes, creating an eternal night all over the world. The last remnants of humanity have fled back to the blackened earth of America, trying to hide from the worst of the radiation. But no one can ever escape, the humans themselves have begun to change as their planet does, gaining animalistic characteristics. Some gain ears, fur, even a tail, while others gain reflexes, poisonous fangs, acute hearing. Even the wild animals have begun to change, becoming larger and more vicious to survive in the brutal world. You are a survivor, here’s a chance to tell your story, will you live? Animal Characteristics: With characteristics of a Monkey he has always been quite flexible and agile, but his new changes just make him better at it, he's an excellent climber and always seems to know the best way to survive. He also has a tail that's able to move independently, though he usually wears it around his waist like a belt.
Other abilities: He's great at moving and traversing obstacles, and always was a fair fist fighter. He's also strangely skilled at throwing spears, and always carries a bundle of them around.
Other: He can't use a gun to save his life but finds that carrying one can scare people away.
Bio: He was always an odd child, and when the eruption happened and his parents died he had to survive and became even odd-er. He didn't mind though. He was still alive after all.

Other: Very loyal to his friends, rather inexperienced with socialization. Has a prominent Texan accent. Acts tough in the face of danger and uncertainty, but inside he's really soft and somewhat of a wimp.
Bio: The son of the owner of a Texan gun designer and manufacturer, Travis was somewhat excluded by those around him in his liberal hometown of Bee Cave, Texas. Therefore, he never really learned how to properly socialize with others. He did get to learn two things, though: guns, and how to build with his hands. Now he uses those skills to help him survive.

Other abilities: Ludique is the essence of innocence, and had been home schooled her whole life. Also, she can make a pretty sick lemonade drink.
Other: Ludique travels with Adam, and has a crush upon him, though they're both unaware of such.
Bio: Home schooled since she could speak, Ludique never really developed many people skills, and when the eruption happened, well, she didn't really need any, anyway.

Animal Characteristics: Vampire Bat-He has wings so he can fly, and can work through echolocation, though his eyes work fine. Because of this his hearing is excellent, but his eyesight is only average. His sense of smell is better then a human's, but still not too strong.
Other abilities: He's an excellent fighter, and a good shot with a pistol. He usually carries one with him. He's also a survivalist, he can live off almost anything.
Other: He hates orange juice.
Bio: His parents and he never exactly 'got along', Then again it's hard to get along with a delusional wife-beater and a drug addicted whore. Still, he did the best he could with what he had. And he had muscles, fists, and an uncanny skill to hit people where it hurt. So he set that to use, and became rather well known in underground fight clubs, at least as well known as you can be in an underground fight club. When the eruption came he found his natural ability to hit stuff and his new animal strengths gave him an edge over death, and he survived since then.

Job/Profession before eruption: Helped out at her mother's cafe after school hours.
Animal Characteristics: Rabbit - One helluva kick and fast runner. She's skittish though she tried to pretend otherwise. Her senses - hearing, sight, smell, - are all very good.
Other abilities: Her balance is very good and her memory is sharp - two things every waitress needs.
Other: Her nickname comes from the fact that she's always had extremely good luck. It's even more fitting now that she's a white rabbit.
Bio: Lucky doesn't remember her father. Her mom said the man walked out as soon as he knew she was pregnant. Lucky has always just figured they were better without him. Her mother ran a small, quaint cafe and she always went to help the woman out. Besides, she didn't really have many friends so she wasn't missing anything. Since the eruption, she's been wandering. Her whole town was shaken up and she lost track of her mother as she had been away from home at the time. She wants to know what happened to her mother, whether she's even alive or not.

Animal Characteristics: Snake - Besides the obvious tail and strength, Shia has hinged fangs that she can control whether they drop down or lay against the roof of her mouth, hidden. The fangs have a deadly poison, capable of killing (painfully) within a few hours in the proper dose. She can control the poison dose, making anything from a light stunning to death. She's also, well, quick as a snake.
Other abilities: She's extremely intelligent and can figure out most things instantly.
Other: Shia has leadership problems, as in she doesn't really like being told what to do. She also has a major temper issue.
Bio: Shia was just beginning to strike out on her own and leave her parents when the eruption struck. Once she'd gotten used to the changes, she reveled in her new found freedom. She'd never gotten along with her parents so she used this as an excuse to leave. She now goes where she wants and does what she wants.

Animal Characteristics: Tiger- He is fast and quiet, with a sense of smell and hearing that are sharp as his claws.
Other abilities: He's a fast runner and a good swing with a baseball bat. He's also pretty good with numbers, for whatever that's worth these days.
Other: His knowledge of video games is unmatched.
Bio: He used to be a normal kid, well, not completely normal. He was nice, and a jock. He was smart and good at baseball. Some people called him perfect, he disagreed. He was a bit odd, and a bit strange. He was also pretty un-used to interacting with many people. When the eruption came he found that people didn't really show up that often in a destroyed country.

Animal Characteristics: (Owl) can rotate head 270 degrees, excellent far vision especially in low light, can eat things whole and regurgitate the indigestible part as pellets, eyes fixed in sockets, must rotate head to look around. Her hair is permanently stuck in the hairstyle it is in and the plumage helps funnel sound to her ears.
Other abilities: can sing pretty well, a good hunter, skilled in using her hammer, minor parkour.

Bio: Jennifer is part of a budding cult that believes that the Sun going away was a good thing, and that if it comes back, the world shall end, thus they await the day that it does, hoping that they will somehow survive to see the world burn. She carries around an oddly coloured, massive hammer with ease, though where she got it she isn't saying.

Animal Characteristics: Wolf, she gained fur, enhanced senses and reflexes, and sharp claws and fangs.
Other abilities: As a biker she's tough and a good fighter, she's an expert at fixing anything mechanical, and she's a crack shot with a gun.
Other: She's bisexual and loving it. She managed to find an old bike shop and get a motorcycle running by basically building it from the ground up out of other motorcycles.
Bio: Her mother died in child birth, her father, a retired Hell's Angel and motorcycle mechanic, raised her as he would have raised a boy, since he had no idea what ELSE to do with her. She learned how to fix bikes, beat the ******** out of people, drink and smoke and do drugs. These skills (Excluding the drinking, smoking and drugging) proved very helpful when the eruption and the war happened. Eventually though she got tired of duct-taping motorcycle engines to Russian cars so she headed over to America and started to survive there in the wasteland.

Job/Profession before eruption: Doesn't remember
Animal Characteristics: Komodo dragon, he has immensely tough scales all over his body, is quite strong physically, and has a very tough anatomy, making him hard, if not impossible, to poison. On top of this his own bit is loaded with venom and bacteria, allowing him to poison others with a unique poison that can cause numbness and eventually death. Luckily Geck has full control over whether he uses this ability or not.
Other abilities: Though he can't remember what his previous life entailed, he believes he may have been a soldier or fighter of some sort, as he is skilled in hand to hand techniques, mainly boxing.
Other: He has a strange love of lime-flavored candies
Bio: He doesn't remember any of his past, he simply woke up in the American wasteland one day and began wondering around, with no idea what his name was or what he was, or where he came from. Eventually he came across Danya and helped her fend off one of the many dangerous beasts of the wasteland. Danya took a liking to him and called him 'Geck' as in Gecko, and told him to follow her around for a while. So he has. It's not like he has anything better to do, and maybe during their travels he'll remember something.

Animal Characteristics: Fox - Fur, enhanced senses, fast on his feet. His eyesight focuses better on moving objects than anything else. If something is perfectly still, he finds it hard to focus on.
Other abilities: Little bit of knowledge about practically everything, though he isn't the strongest.
Other: Daniel has a small collection of his favorite books in his backpack that he always carries with him.
Bio: Daniel was quite happy, living and working as a librarian. He owned the small library and had an apartment above it. The day of the disaster, he rescued as many of the books as he could, hiding them away in a safe place. Now though, he travels, seeking any books that may have survived, wanting to rebuild his library.

Other abilities: Strength, speed, and a strong metabolism
Other: Jessica's family in Madagascar died due to radiation. When Jessica took refuge in the forests, over time she began to change, growing a Lemur tail and ears. Her eyes also changed into a bright red-orange hue like that of a Lemur.
Bio: Jessica Smith was groomed from childhood to be the best athlete she could. Turns out, she had massive talent and became an olympic athlete. At the 2012 Olympics she took gold for Pole Vaulting and High Jump. Much of her money went to animal related foundations for creatures of her home island: Madagascar. Mostly Lemurs. She as well supported protecting the Galapagos Islands off the coast of South America. When the war broke out, much of the fresh water supply on the island became infected with ash and radiation.

Jessica had to survive on little water, and forage for food in the Madagascar forests. She became friendly with the Lemurs, much to her excitement, over time she began to change. Her body changed. She grew a long furry Lemur tail, pointed Lemur ears, and bright red-orange eyes like those of the Lemurs which allow her to see in the night. When the island was raided and bombed, Jessica stowed away on a battle ship and escaped to America where she took to the forests.

After a year she'd built a fort for herself and four Lemurs she'd brought with her from Madagascar. The Lemurs took a while to adapt to their new environment, but they survived in the end. Elaborate forts and huts are all about the forest, connected to each other somehow. Each is a certain point in the forest for Jessica and she moves from each every few days to stay on the move for fear of attack. Being alone for so long has made Jessica a bit paranoid around other people now.

Adam smiled cheerfully as he poked around the dusty cupboards of a half-destroyed home. "Lu!" He called out, pulling a can of beans out and holding it up triumphantly, "I found something!"

Vane soared through the black skies, crimson eyes sweeping the ground below, searching for food. His backpack was weighing him down, that's why he had to glide opposed to usually flying. He would need to dump something soon or else hoof it on the ground. And the ground was dangerous.

Tazen snuk through the dark black ash-fields that used to be a baseball diamond. A baseball bat in hand he looked from side to side warily. What had once been a place of fun and entertainment was now just a monument to the destruction that spread all across this country. The sky was a swirling mass of black and gray, light filtered through barely, a light twilight that fell down across the black lands.

Smiling as their newly found dinner, Ludique jumped down from the half of the roof that hadn't been destroyed. Crouching as she landed, then standing straight, Ludique began rummaging through their bag. "We still have a can opener, right?"

"Gawd dammit... Why can't I find some darn ammunition supplies when I need 'em..." Travis muttered as he angrily slammed the locker shut.
