This is a private roleplay between Huojin [kotaline] and Xiu [Honeybii].

Setting:

At Huojin's home.

A certain little tiger cub has taken leave of his master and wreaks havoc on some certain mice. Will Xiu ever find Bai Hu and with Huojin ever get rid of him?
PostPosted: Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:14 pm

It was early morning and Bai Hu was prowling about as usual. Except there was one problem. He wasn’t supposed to be prowling anywhere. After ditching Xiu during the incident at the shrine, Bai was a bit nervous about going home. After all, he HAD abandoned his master. Xiu couldn’t be too happy about it, so the little cub had made himself scarce for the last couple of days, not knowing that Xiu was worried sick about him. He just didn’t want his master to think him a coward…even though he was.

All of this became a moot point though when the sound of excited squeaks and chirps filled his hears. He seemed to be at a strange shed of some sort that smelled strongly of…something. Bai didn’t like this something but he did like mice and he did like birds.

With a rumbling growl that was a far cry from an sound an adult tiger would make, Bai Hu inched towards the place, ready to chase something weak. He was pleased to hear frantic noises from inside the place. Good. They could already smell him. This was going to be fun.

In the meantime, Xiu and the other monks of the Lotus Temple were out on the town searching for Bai Hu. Xiu wasn't sure if he would kiss the cub or kill him when he found him.

The air was crisp, the birds were singing both in their cages and through the open window, and in his workshop, Huojin was sketching one of his swallows. It was too early to work with real firecrackers, in case of explosions, the Sun family had long ago promised their neighbours that they'd try to keep the noise down at night and early in the mornings. As futile as that promise sometimes was, if they could help it, the Sun men really did try not to wake people up with a bang, so Huojin was focusing on other things, at least until the sun was higher in the sky.

The swallows in front of him hopped over to look at the boy as he reached over to pull one of their wings and sketch it in one of the scrolls he used for his illustrations. The sketch wasn't that good, but it was good enough to work from if he wanted to replicate the wing in a more complex firecracker design. It was something he had been meaning to get done, but drawing was his least favourite part of the firecracker making process, so he tended to put it off. But this morning, it didn't seem so bad, and Huojin was getting as much work done as he could while he was still in the mood.

All in all, it had the makings of a productive, peaceful day.

Bai Hu's tail swished seriously as he crouched low to the ground. He rolled his eyes upwards, seeing those swallows hopping about on the window sill. There seemed to be more inside as well. Licking his chops, Bai tensed. He could jump this. He could SO jump to the window sill. He'd seen regular cats to such a thing and he, Bai Hu, was much better than one of those ordinary creatures.

Goal in mind, Bai lunged up from the ground. He barely made it scrabbling on the window sill before pulling himself up. The birds and other small creatures were already in pandemonium. The cub gave a squeaky roar and jumped for the nearest bird. He missed, hitting Huojin's desk instead. Paper scattered as his claws scrapped the wooden surface.

Complete and utter chaos reigned. Bai Hu yowled and chased the birds around the room until they were smart enough to fly out the window. Fur on end, the tiger looked like a little fire ball as he ran about the room.

True to the laws of ironic timing, as soon as Huojin began to enjoy the peace of the day, pandemonium arrived by means of a feral feline.

Huojin yelped as the furball burst through the window, thinking it to be a large cat at first, but as he lunged after the thing, he began to realize that it was, in fact, a very small tiger. His day had not just been interrupted, it had been interrupted by some kind of wild city tiger that was such an improbable thing to burst through his window, that it left him no choice but to assume that the gods were mocking a firecracker maker for wanting peace and quiet. Undaunted (he figured he could take a little tiger if he had to), Huojin leapt forward in an attempt to tackle it to the ground and get it out of there before it jumped onto the wrong thing and something exploded on them both.

At that moment, his little brother Qi opened the door with a, "Brother, Mama is asking you not to destroy the house at such an early hour of the morning," that turned into a shriek when he saw what was going on. Unlike Huojin's yelp, though, Qi's was a shriek of delight.

"Can we keep it?!" he cried, running into the workshop and trying to grab the tiger of his own accord.

Bai Hu refused to be caught like some common house cat. He squirmed and wiggled out of Huojin's grasp each and every time the boy tried to grab him. Ha! Like the great Bai would every be stopped by by the likes of a mere Lunarian! The little cub continued on at full speed, tearing up paper and making a general mess of things

So, on the chase went, with Bai chasing the birds and Huojin chasing Bai. It was only slightly interrupted when the child burst through the doors. The tiger was startled and paused. Huojin's hand got a little to close then and Bai instinctively bit down on the appendage with a loud growl.

It was with the realization that he'd done something utterly horrible and BAD that Bai yowled and sprang away from Huojin. Being the conniving cat he was, the cub jumped straight into Qi's arms, tail thrashing. Ha! Tiger one, Huojin zero. Let's see the boy get him now!

"Qi!" Huojin called, startled as his brother entered the room, "Don't open that-" Suddenly, his mind erupted into pain as the little vermin bit him. It was barely an hour into his morning and already he had been bit by a tiger! Furious, he grabbed his hand and reached under his desk for the just in case bandages he kept there.

"We are not keeping it. It's a menace, frankly, I don't even know what a tiger is doing in a city! Tigers are supposed to be off killing things in jungles or whatever, not trying to eat my pets."

Qi wasn't listening. He was holding Bai like he would a stuffed toy and bibbling his nose with a finger. "Kitty, kitty kitty!" he said contently.

Huojin snorted. "Yes, kitty. Won't Mao be thrilled." Tying his bandage up to stop the bleeding, he stomped downstairs to appeal to a higher authority, dragging Qi with him. "Ma!" he called. "Ma, Qi found a stray tiger!"

Bai Hu was a strategist by nature. The moment that Qi had his arms around him, the cub began to purr. Loudly. He licked at the little fingers beeping his nose, making sure that it tickled so that Qi would be pleased. Bai shot Huojin a scathing look, green eyes flashing in triumph. Perfectly happy with the turn of events, Bai stayed nestled in the little boy’s arms, tail thrashing.

Meanwhile, Xiu had somehow gotten a lead pointing him to the Sun household. Apparently his familiar had strayed onto Legion property. Which wasn’t good . While Xiu didn’t like to take an active part in the war, he still tried to avoid the Legion filled part of the city. No helping it now though. Steeling himself, he forced his body to walk confidently up the street. Like a REAL man would do.

Very soon he was knocking on the door of the Sun house, hoping that someone would answer and hopefully shed some light on Bai’s whereabouts. In the meantime, the Noble looked around, vainly hoping to catch sight of the cub.

Xiu's perusal was interrupted when a person opened the door, asking what Xiu's business was. Of course he answered that he was looking for his tiger cub, trying to not sound too anxious as he did so.

Huojin stared at Xiu in the open doorway, dumbfounded that anyone would actually a) want and b) OWN a tiger cub. From inside the house, Qi shrieked "It's mine! It's my tiger cub," and ran upstairs, his feet padding quickly up the steps. He was probably going to hide under his bed, that was what he did when he didn't want people to argue with him. Huojin watched him go, and ran a hand through his hair tiredly. It was too early to deal with this madness! All he had wanted was a quiet morning.

"Look, uh, hi." He gave Xiu the brightest smile he could manage at this hour and a friendly wave. "Yeah, we have a tiger cub here, are you sure it's yours? It just kind of showed up and destroyed everything. I mean, even if it is, I can understand if you don't want it back. You can leave right now, and I will never mention this to anyone." What was he saying?! He couldn't live with a pet cat and a tiger cub, Mao was bad enough! Still, he supposed he felt sorry for anyone who actually owned the little monstrosity in Qi's arms. His smile was faltering, and Huojin sleepily realized this, slapping his face to wake himself up. "Sorry I'm not more cheerful, it's been a long morning."

This had taken a turn and even though Bai had smelled his Master, he was having too much fun. He was not under the bed with Qi, licking the frantic boy’s face. How exciting.

Xiu blinked in surprise, mouth pursing at the explanation that was given to him. “I can assure you that yes, he’s mine. Mr. Uh…Sun. That’s exactly the kind of thing Bai Hu would do.” Finally cracking a bit of a smile to the other boy, Xiu gave a wink. “Besides, how many tigers do you know of in this city? I--”

The suddenly squealing of the child pounding up the stairs had Xiu sighing. “I’m very sorry for Bai causing so much trouble. I would really like him back though.” And Xiu was prepared to shoulder his way into the house to go and fetch his familiar.

Huojin looked upstairs and did some mental calculations. Suddenly gaining and losing a pet tiger all in the space of thirty minutes would probably make Qi whinier than cicadas in the summer, and Huojin wasn't ready to deal with that today. He had already had a long day, but if Qi was quiet and stayed in his room, which he probably would in order to keep something as important to him as a pet, then he might actually be able to get some work done. Anyway, the stranger owed him some peace and quiet, his tiger had caused him more trouble than one of his firecrackers accidentally exploding.

"I hate to ask this, but could you come back later? This evening? My brother isn't going to give up easily, but if he has some time he might be able to part with the tiger with less fuss. Frankly, I'm not awake enough to deal with it, and he's a headache and a half even without someone threatening to take a baby tiger away from him. My grandfather can usually deal with him, but he's out visiting an old friend this week, and when I ask my father to deal with him, he just laughs, and it's so frustrating. My parents spoil him just because he's little and clumsy, even though I'm more productive, and all he does is hand me the fuses, it's just irritating sometimes, you know?"

He paused.

"Anyway, that was more than I wanted you to know. Could you please come back later? I don't have the sanity for this right now."

Xiu’s face twisted up into a squint as he tried to follow along with that the boy was babbling on about. Sure, he felt bad about upsetting a little child in such a way, but Bai was his! He hadn’t seen the tiger for roundabout two weeks now and if he was being honest with himself, he’d been really worried about his familiar. He didn’t owe this boy anything after wall. While Xiu wasn’t prone to being suspicious of legionnaires, he didn’t feel comfortable enough to leave Bai alone in such a place.

“Look, I’m really sorry about your brother and that your tired. I’m also sorry about your parents though I can’t related to anything you just said. I just want my familiar back.” Xiu replied, beginning to wring his hands together. “I’m sure if you just speak to your brother it’ll be fine. I just really would like my pet back, please.” He finished as firmly as he could.

Huojin felt annoyed. Did this guy not trust him? It was just a simple request, and it would make his life ten times easier. It was this other Lunarian's fault for letting his tiger get loose anyway, he was clearly and irresponsible owner, and Huojin, who looked after 20 birds, 10 rats, and various mice, didn't have time for irresponsible pet owners. "Look, just a few hours, it would make my life a million times easier, please? My brother is stubborn, but he takes good care of cats, I promise, and we'll give him right back, it's just easier to do it once the newness of baby tigers has worn off for him."
