The young foal pushed his way through the tall grasses of the plain. It wasn't quite late afternoon, the sun still high enough in the sky to allow him a few more hours of freedom. Ariashi wasn't afraid of the dark, no siree, but his father was awfully concerned about his sons safety after the sun set. So had that one big-mare . . . but she hadn't harmed him, and Ariashi was quite certain he could take care of whatever came his way.
Heaving a small sigh, the young colt continued onward. He paused now and then to stretch out his wings, or to rear up and try to see over the tall grasses. He was a very small colt, with his brother being much larger and boisterous. Unfortunately though, he hadn't seen his brother in a very long time, and his mother had also seemingly left Ariashi and Drashi to their fates. It as . . . saddening . . . but somehow the young the colt wasn't terribly upset. It was what it was, after all. He couldn't stop his mother from leaving, just as his father couldn't stop him from wandering off.
But until Arianna, the young golden colt would never ever leave permanantly. He'd made a silent vow to his father and his herd to always return, no matter what. Still, though he liked his herd, he wasn't terribly impressed by it. . . rather, he was terribly intimidated by it! Angeni were everywhere within his herd, and he felt terribly small and weak by comparison. Maybe it was just a phase, maybe he'd get larger soon but . . .no matter how hard he tried to stretch his limbs, to work his muscles, he just seemed continuously small.
Step by step, the little colt pushed onward. He had no place to be, and was in no hurry to get to no where. Besides, he didn't want to go back to his father, not yet at any rate.

Who knew a day could go by so swiftly? Or could it be that in the land of flowers, her homeland, time just moved slower? Whatever the case Babette, the child of Miriel and Baltidos, was left in a sour predicament as night's shadows licked the back of the sun. Drawn into the realm of pure imagination and childish wonders the lass had left her family's camp to face the demon's that plagued the foreign plains. For hours she roamed the new land in battles against pirates, rogues, and devils. The only thing that had paused her continuous flowing movement was the sight of a inky black shadow that had grown in the corner of her eye. Immediately she was torn from her battle with the crown prince of the tundra in order to meet whatever the monster could be face to face. Yet when she halted her bulky frame, the filly was met with a peculiar vision. There, dancing amongst the dusk colored grass was her shadow. It had grown to become monstrous in size since the last time she caught sight of it during the day while it had been hidden under her belly looking pale and sickly in the presence of sunlight. Her glorious visions ruined by her own creation, Babes took the time to gather exactly where she was. She had yet to face to darkness of night but it was coming. The plains were bathed in hues of green, red, violet, yellow, orange...all kinds of beautiful colors one could find painted upon the flower's in her kingdom back home. For a place that was supposedly a "vacation" spot Babes couldn't see much of a difference compared to her homeland except there were very few flowers here. But even with the similarities in the environment Babette had come to enjoy the enchanting realm that she was not physically or emotionally attached to. Sol had gone off to do something else and with her parents busy with business Babes had been left to her own devices. It was perfect! Shrugging off the idea of getting lost when the sun was swallowed up Babes moved forward through the tall grass. Her body stood tall and elegantly over the grass that wavered and shook as she moved through it. Babes had a few more hours left judging by where the sun sat in the sky. There would be nothing wrong with goofing off a little bit more before she headed back to the campsite. With that in mind Babes' immediately transported herself back into the imaginary battle with the Prince of the Tundra. As soon as she envisioned his face, pale and holding a fierce scowl upon it, the little lass took off as quick as lightning into the tall grass. Sprinting left and right, darting this way and that the little one was using all the tactics her father had shown her a few weeks ago. Her imagination was becoming so real the child could have sworn she was able to convince herself that the grass to her right had begun to move on it's own, without the assistance of herself or the wind. Any moment the Prince would emerge! She would bring justice to his villainous ways at once! The land would be free of his tyranny as soon as she took him down. The child leaped forwards with a great deal of courage and ambition. Her heart soared as she gave a valkyrie cry, running towards the trembling grass, only to see something start to emerge and try her hardest to come to a halt. As she slid in the dirt, slowing down in an extremely lucky fashion Babes came face-to-face with not the Prince of the Tundra but a...colt? If the lass wasn't so surprised and hadn't swallowed her voice she would have screamed right then and there as their noses touched.

While Babette didn't scream, Ariashi did! Having pushed himself out of the tall grasses, he had froze as soon as he'd heard a cry and lifting his head had stared at something brown, feathery, and fluffy bowling straight at him!
In his sudden terror and panic, the morose colt let out a huge screech as he braced himself for impact from the thing. Thankfully, the young filly stopped herself just as their noses touched - she wide eyed and mouth open - while Ariashi was terrified and shrieking.
It was rather pathetic, especially because he was actually quite smaller than the female. As soon as he realized he was in no immediate danger, his voice died and his mouth snapped shut while his body practically trembled in surprise. His golden eyes were wide as plates, and his heart was thumping so loud he was certain she could hear it. Heaving deep breaths, the young colt just as suddenly jerked himself away from their close proximity, retreating a few steps to hide back in the grasses.
How embarrassing.
Snorting softly, trying to regain some sort of composure, the young colt pawed at the ground irritably. Now that his surprise had passed, he wasn't quite sure what to do or what to say. It was silly of her to scare him like that, but he doubted she did it intentionally. Furthermore, it was silly of him to react like such a sissy! He was an angeni after all, and there were many warrior sorts in his family. . . . Screaming wasn't exactly a very warrior-like trait.
"Who're you?" He finally managed to look up and give the other a better look. She was certainly a she, but she had two sets of wings, just like him! Head-wings and foot wings too . . . . In fact, it occurred to Ariashi just a little late that she was an angeni!
Oh bother.
Was his life to constantly be haunted by the breed!?

His mother must have been a harpy. That was the only way one could possess that mighty and ear-numbing of a scream. Babes froze right then and there. The poor filly's heart felt as though it had jumped up and became lodged in her throat thanks to good old panic. Poor gal stood before Ariashi wide eyed and jaw slacked, stunned by the sheer screech when it was released from the golden midget. Suddenly the iron locks on her legs opened and Babes could move again which she did so in a hurry. As quick as lightning the angeni's front legs raised with surprise as the rest of her body followed and reared back from the drumming pain. "H-Hey! Ow! Q-Q-Quit it!" The lass could only holler in response as her body ducked and bucked this-way-and-that in her futile way to escape the kid's cry. Hopefully the munchkin could hear her own shouting through his voiced panic.
His ferocious shrill could open the gates of Hell! When it finally died down Babes found herself in the embarrassing position of on her belly with her fluffy duo pair of wings tucked tightly around her head in a makeshift shield. Honestly the nerve of some folk! Opening their mouths and screwing up her whole appearance. If the mighty Tundra Prince saw this he'd roll over and call for mercy because of spilt sides induced by laughter.
As the little one rose from her spot and shook away the grime she tried to pretend that what just occurred never actually happened. Just an illusion...and if the wide-mouthed bugger said anything about it she'd shut his talker down.
Unfortunately big bad Babes wasn't as mighty as she thought for she flinched at the littlest sign that his jaw was opening. Luckily this time her delicate ears had nothing to fear.
"Shouldn't I be the one asking that? You did just almost try to blow my eardrums out. " Upon further inspection she could see that he was just like her appearance wise. Not as beautiful as she but the wings sitting along his body was visual proof they were of the same category. Interesting...

Ariashi was just as stunned as Babette when everything settled. While he had screeched his surprise, she had taken off bucking here and there, only to wind up on the ground in a rather compromising situation. He hadn't expected her to freak out . . . . Still, he doubted she had expected him to shriek as he had. Even Ariashi was surprised at the sound he had emitted!
Oh well.
Too late to swallow his shock now.
Clearing his throat, Ariashi looked down at his hooves, taking a moment to paw at the ground as he gathered his thoughts. He really wasn't sure what to say or how to act - he'd never met another foal outside of his herd before, and all the foals he did know were angeni just like Maion. They were older too, and much more rambunctious. . . . Was this one going to be the same? She already was bigger than him, though Ariashi hoped that meant she was older too. He didn't like to think he was small, even if it were true.
His head wings flattened some as the young filly seemed to disregard his question and throw it back at him. Furthermore, she made comment of his scream, and he felt his ears burn with embarrassment. "Well I . . . I didn't mean to scream, it just . . .kind of happened." Clearing his throat, he gave a little shake of his head and quickly pushed the subject along. He didn't want to dwell on such an awkward moment. "I'm Ariashi . . . Now can I ask who you are? You were the one who fright - - er, surprised me. . ."

Babette arched a brow as she examined the smaller angeni. He was such a bizarre color! Never before had she seen a foal that was golden color...of course the only other foal she'd seen was her brother Sol so it wasn't as though she had a whole lot to go by. She stood before him as still as she could. It had been embarrassing enough when she ran around as if on fire after he screamed so now it was time to act dignified. Course Babes didn't know how long she could keep her legs stiff as a plank.
"Well if we're saying what we didn't actually do then...I didn't mean to flinch." In just a few seconds the angeni forgot her idea of upholding a dignified impression for their first meeting and walked a circle around little Ariashi to inspect him. She stopped at his side after making one successful circle and broke out into a fit of giggles. "You're pretty cute um...Ariashi did you say?" She was putting his question on hold this time rather than just throwing it back at him like their first exchange. "Hmm..let me shorten that. How about Ari? I like that nickname do you?"
Childish and not considering if he'd be upset for the shortening of his name Babette turned to it when she addressed him again, "Well Ari my name is Babette. And since I shortened your name you can call me by my short which is Babes!" As she spoke the rambunctious youth stretched her wings out and gave them a flap. She smiled widely very happy to be in the presence of this boy. Someone new and interesting what luck!
"And you were the one who gave my heart a start." She leaned closer to his face and gave him a wink, mimicking the older male and female interaction she saw on her families trip to visit Rosalia. Her right lead wing stretched away from her body and brushed against one of the golden boys in delight and curiosity to see if they felt the same. "...But I'm glad you did."

Ariashi watched as the female circled him, unable to not feel more than a little defensive. He was still tense from his initial fright, and he found it slightly annoying that she was already bigger than him. Given, this wasn't her fault, per-say, but he was always sensitive about his size. . . .It truly was a shame that every recessive trait in the book had been granted him. At least when it came physical size and strength.
Hopefully though, he was just small now. Maybe when he got older, bigger, he'd catch up to everyone else. Surely the spirits wouldn't keep him petite all his life. . . .
Cute. . .? His headwings flattened some as he continued to gape at the filly. Oh man. . . . girls. He was almost reminded of some of the Maikoda members, like Chandra and whatnot. Sometimes the females were all sorts of gossipy and he wasn't sure how to take being cute. He wasn't cute he was . . . he was . . . .well, he was Ariashi. "Uh. . . thanks I . . .guess. . . " He added with a little shrug and sigh.
Oh, that ever present raincloud. Unlike Babes, he wasn't bubbling over with energy and adventure and likely never would. Still, it was nice to meet someone who wasn't at all related to Maikoda. . . . though she was covered in wings and an angeni just like him. Why couldn't he meet a non-angeni? Then they might not question his size or realize he was so . . .small.
"It's nice to meet you though. . . .and everyone calls me Ari so . . . " He shrugged. No one, not even his own family, seemed to call him by his full name so he certainly couldn't blame Babes for catching on.
As Babette winked at him, the golden angeni couldn't elp but stare. Girls really were strange creatures . . .He couldn't exactly figure them out. She was very friendly, and seemed to like close contact which . . .was fine but . . . just kind of different too. His wings tightened a bit at her touch, and he retreated a step or two so he could regain his personal space. "Well I . . . I guess I'm glad you scared me too. I haven't met any foals my age that aren't in my herd. So you're the first."

Babette stood beside the quiet and stand-offish angeni, looking him over for any indication as to why he was so....gloomy. If he had a raincloud floating over his head it was either too thick to let the sun shine on him or ready to open up with rain. So peculiar! But it had been ages since she'd seen other kids. The only youngster she knew was her brother. Any other foal she saw was a brief glimpse when they sometimes traveled out of their home.
Babes dug one of her hooves into the ground as the new guy, Ari, reacted to the attention she had coated him in. By how he was acting her curiosity must have felt sticky or gave the other a constraining feeling. Rather than be delighted that she had shown interest him in or laugh he was shutting all the doors.
Perhaps she had to be even more forward! That had to get him out of this weird behavior.
The filly didn't take note the steps Ari was taking to free up his personal bubble. She was too eager to make a connection, a buddy, and an old pal with the new kid. With family you could get close so wouldn't that be the same for friends? Once again her wings reached out and wrapped around his back and wings. "It's nice to meet you too...gotta say for a foal you're pretty polite...AND you're a boy so that must be some kind of bonus."
Her laughter ceased for a moment or so as she thought about what her newfound friend, Ari, had said. "I'm your very first? Well isn't that something! You're pretty lucky then because I'm the best filly to meet, trust me." A genuine grin followed her bold statement as if Babes really believed she was that wonderful and meaningful to the world at this point of her life.
Forget asking for permission to get close. Babes had thrown personal space out and into the trees as she laid her head against the side of his head and the broad side of his neck. "Can you see that, Ari?" The lass asked as one wing outstretched and swept a invisible curve before their very eyes to add to the dramatics, "Because I see a brilliant future in our way! So powerful and pretty it'll blow your brain right out of your head!"

The black haired colt almost grimaced as he was once again wrapped up in the feathers and fur of the brown filly. She was really touchy-feely, wasn't she!? He gulped a bit as she caught him, and he tried to listen to her but it was awfully distracting. He wasn't used to such close proximities. His father was often scarce, his brother and mother both gone. He couldn't help but feel surprised and more than a little uncertain about Babette and her affectionate nature.
It was just . . . different.
Heaving a small sigh, the little gold colt felt himself tense up. He wanted a new friend, but he wasn't sure this was how friendship was supposed to happen. Even before Xanthus had left he didn't remember being this close or affectionate with him. Then again, maybe it was just a girl thing. He'd never met a filly before after all. "I guess I was just taught good manners," he explained with a small shrug.
He wasn't sure what to say about her response on being the best. Surely she was just boasting, but at the same rate, he had no real comparison. He couldn't just tell her she wasn't the best thing, since he really didn't know any better at all. Oh well. He'd just let her believe whatever she wished.
As Babes laid her head against his own, stretching out her wing, Ariashi blinked. "A briliant future? Huh. That's interesting, because all I see are trees and grasses. And if a future is going to blow out ones brains, than I think I'll pass, because you can't live without any brains so how would one appreciate it?" So he was taking her literally. He knew that the future wouldn't really do that (or so he hoped) but it was true. He wasn't looking forward to the future very much at all, so there really wasn't any beauty to discover.
Yes, he did have a raincloud on his shoulder. At least Babette got that much right about him. Dipping his head down, he retreated again, reclaiming some personal space once more. She was kind of weird, this little brown filly. But then, Ariashi wasn't used to such forward folk. He wasn't sure how he felt about her, but she was new, different, and Ariashi wasn't that great when it came to new and different things. He'd need to take awhile to warm up to her.

Babette paid no mind to her peers distaste towards her up-close and personal greetings. Her father and brother weren’t the affectionate types but they put up with her antics so she expected the same response from this lad. It was good for him right? If this kid ever wanted to get over his awkward phase he’d need several moments like this. Least that’s what Dr. Babes had developed as her conclusion.
“Good manners? Oh puh-lease.” Babette raised her head dramatically and rolled her eyes as she dragged out the final word. “How is avoiding contact good manners? That just shows you don’t want to get to know someone on a personal level!” She confidently barked once again believing this. She had been told countless times she and her brother had lovely manners. Just because Babes liked getting close to someone, well that shouldn’t be held against her.
The little lass scowled as once again the little raincloud spoiled her fun. He was a serious one…especially if he was turning down her envisioned future. “You’re quite the stick in the mud huh?” Babes grumbled as her ploy was revealing its flaws. How was she supposed to win him over if he acted like this?
No! She couldn’t think like that. He may be a challenge but by golly Babette was determined enough to tear down the wall this boy had built around him. “By the time I’m done with you, you’ll be psyched for the future I’ve made. It’ll be wondrous and if you’re that worried about the sheer brilliance killing you well….” The filly trailed off while she pulled away and puffed out her chest, flexed her wings, and stood tall over him. If Babes had planned her position out right then the sun should be enveloping her in a beautiful glow. “I’ll protect you.”

Babette may have looked glorious with the sunlight silhouetting her frame, and causing an overall dramatic effect, but it was too much for the little colt. Ariashi honestly didn't know how to respond to such an obstinate and outgoing personality - even his own brother wasn't quite so intense! Snorting softly, the colt shook his head, his ears pinned and his wings hugging tight around himself.
"I appreciate your vow for protection but . . . really, I don't think this is a good plan. I don't need anyone protecting me, even if I am small," he added, puffing out his chest some and trying to stand taller than the large female before him. He was very sensitive about his petite stature, and didn't like the thought of needing protection. He was big enough, he could take care of himself, hmmph!
"And it's called having personal space. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to get touchy-feely with someone. . .Look, I . . I really should be getting back. My Dad will be worried, but it was nice meeting you anyway." Sort of. He didn't know many foals his age, but he just wasn't used to Babette. The way she seemed to want to take control, to be close and snuggly, it . . .was distracting and surprising for Ariashi.
But right now, he wanted the familiar and Babette just wasn't it. If he was lucky, this would be the last time he met the little filly.
