This week, Professor Tailor's mismatched classroom has been shuffled and shifted, the desks pushed to the sides, chairs stacked carefully out of the way to make room for something new:

Vanity mirrors.

There are eleven of them, roughly half as many as there are students, and each one has in front of it two chairs. They are organized in a way that runs counter to the usual clutter of the place, makeup and putty and dyes and glue all arranged in neat lines, ready to be taken up and used. Apparently, he is teaching not how to change one's appearance by magical means but by more classic ones.

On the board is the sign in sheet from last week, now a roster of students in the class. Some changes have been made, and stars beside most students' names:

Prof T. is sitting, himself, at the most elaborate mirror toward the front of the class. Today he has on a suit with a puke-yellow pinstripe through it, one leg crossed over the other and the toe of his boot grinning out toward the door and any approaching students.

In one hand, he holds a pen-strictor that slithers and fights and struggles to bite him. He toys with it in a distracted sort of way, eyes unreadable behind his glasses, but his own too-wide mouth splitting in a grin as the first [bravest? geekiest?] kids come creeping in through the door.

"Hand your homework to me, please, and then find a seat. We're working in pairs, so either pair up quick or end up with whoever sits next to you!"

He pauses, head tipped to consider the chair opposite him, and his smile widens another notch.

"...then Remi will come sit with me and do a demonstration."

Homework:

For those of you who have forgotten what your homework was, please refer to this post in last week's class, and post your findings as an image in the thread, not as a link out, so it's easy to see. Remember, this can either be art of your own making or some random image you found via google, so long as you think it fulfills the requirements.

Do not direct link. Instead, please put your character name and the key words somewhere on your image, and then use an image host to house it. Tinypic and Imgur work just fine.

Homework must be handed in by Friday, November 5 or there will be punishment!

Preparing for Class:

All students must team up into pairs: if you have someone particular in mind, PM them and work it out. If not, post to say you're looking for a partner, and you can team up on a first-come-first-served basis. Once you've chosen your partner, be sure to post the following to finalize it:

Sitting at the vanity, relatively comfortable and prepared, are [char1] and [char2].

On Saturday, Nov 6, any unpaired characters will be matched up by the teacher.

Important Note:

As before, there will be multiple prompts in here, so try to check in on deadlines to make sure you're up to date!

Tybalt grumbled as he entered the classroom once more. Both surprised and disappointed to find that he was the first to arrive---AGAIN! What the hell? He did not want to be the kind to always arrive on time. That's what goody-goodies did! And he was NOT a goody-goody!

At least he had company this time. From the little time he had known Lucien, which was only a short while, he found him to be somewhat interesting. ...In an oddball, air headed sort of way... But interesting nonetheless.

"What do you think the mirrors are for?" He asked the Sylph, though his gaze was soon stuck on the make-up kits. "And these...?"

Was it like stage make-up or something? Perhaps... He did recall something being said about them changing their appearances. Made sense too. This class was called forms and faces after all.

The new items were soon forgotten, as he began to look for somewhere to sit and wait for class to start, but stopped when he realized he nearly forgot something. Something, something... He knew it was something important! Though you wouldn't be able to tell by the state it was in.

"Oh! That's right! Almost forgot!" He searched his pockets and pulled out a---crumpled picture of some sort? Must be it. The black dog looked quite satisfied with his find as he tossed it over towards the teacher, where he was waiting patiently.

Lucien sort of snickered at Tybalt from behind him as his body posture indicated his displeasure at arriving in the room. It couldn't be that bad, could it? Lucien was trying to look over his shoulder to see the room but unfortunately all the air elemental could see the back of Tybalt. It wasn't until the black dog addressed the Sylph that he got a good look of the room. Frankly, he was a little bewildered, and Tybalt's questions really didn't ease that thundering curiosity that ached him.

"Perhaps he expects us to look deep into ourselves and see what is really there," Lucien suggested, half jokingly as he floated alongside of the black dog. He was pretty fond of Tybalt now, having many classes with him and even being on the Track and Field team with him. He seemed to have a sense of adventure that Lucien just really loved. He kept his attention, which was something Lucien could always appreciate and they seemed to have common ideals... yes, ideals. That was a good word. A better word for trouble to get into. Lucien was probably going to be the air to Tybalt's fire.

Lucien had no idea on the make-up kits, and just gave the dog a look to say he had as much of a guess as the other.

It was a good thing the black dog was here though because Lucien had practically forgotten about the assignment in his hands when the other remembered to hand his in. Lucien jolted and made a soft "ah" noise as he too pulled out a piece of paper, although not as crumpled, and placed it on top of Tybalt's paper in front of the teacher.

Gargantuan didn't have a partner. He wasn't exactly sure what to do about it, sneaking uncertain looks at the other two students while trying not to crease the rough and shoddy picture still held between his hands. He didn't know what the future was supposed to look like! And that was why it had been so easy to draw!

Shuffling up to Professor Tailor, the swamp beast's face broke into a hesitant, but genuine smile before he pushed the paper into the man's hands. "G try. Dunno 'bout future though..." He didn't know what was supposed to happen in the future! ...Though really, that was probably the point.

With that, casting another sidelong glance at Tybalt and Lucien, G settled himself in an unoccupied seat. Maybe someone would sit with him, and then they could be partners!

Daisuke entered the classroom, scanning over his homework one more time, it was nothing special, just a doodle he thought would fit the specific genre he had been given. 'ignorance' he thought once more with a smirk on his face. He had to chuckle a little as immature as it was. He walked over to the teacher and gave him a slow, unsure nod of his head before scanning the room. There was only three students here so far? Ah, well he didnt feel quite so bad out of the many who were in the last class.

One didn't seem to be sat with anyone, the friendly G he had heard other students talked about. It was worth a try right? Besides, he needed to get to know more classmates, or he really was gonna be a loner for the year.

"Hey."
He smiled, giving him a small wave. "Any chance you would like to be partners?"

Rain was just about to ask G if he would be her partner but was beaten to the punch. How sad, she really wanted to sit with her friend. Now she would be stuck with someone she didn't know well and that was always awkward.
Sighing, she grabbed a table alone and hoped someone would join her.

She quietly placed her drawing down on the table and looked at it. Would she fail? She doodled the first thing that came to mind at her key words. Being Hunted.

She doodled herself. She was a Hunter. She couldn't think of hunting without imagining her going after a scare, and hoping for a kill. She wasn't very good at it yet but it was in her nature to stalk, to hunt. To here, there was no other meaning to the word.

She pouted slightly to herself at Daisuke and G. If only she had come earlier. The early maggot gets the carcass. Her mom had always told her that but she was a slowpoke.

Morrigan had stayed up the previous night, procrastinating as usual. Five sheets of paper later, she had finally drawn something that fit the words she had been given, or so she thought. Invasion of Privacy could cover multiple things but to her, nothing was more private than going to the bathroom.

So she drew some random girl on the toilet. But that wasn't enough, there had to be an invasion of the privacy. When she thought of invasion, she thought of war and fighting and what better to represent that then the gnomes that were randomly spotted throughout the school? She had heard rumors about them, oh yes. Gnomes were small but menacing.

Therefore, it seemed logical to her than an invasion of privacy would be a group of gnomes bothering some hapless monster while she was trying to go potty. It made sense to her!

Of course, she failed to find a partner and would most likely be paired up with the dweebiest ghoul or boil in school. She was ashamed that no one had asked to team up with her. Why, shouldn't they be lined up for that? Clearly something was wrong with her classmates.

Or was something wrong with her? She didn't want to think about that. She clutched mimic to her chest and sighed quietly at her lonely desk. Maybe some cute guy would sit with her. Oh.. that would be nice!

Granted, her homework wasn't anything that great - she was chosen for 'Fear of the Unknown'... And it was freakishly close to her own fear. Once she got the assignment in the previous class, Lizzy had been thinking about it; how would she be able to express 'the unknown'? The unknown is supposed to be... Unknown after all! However, after some time, she finally decided to doodle something she thought represented it well enough for people to understand.

Entering the class, she took a quick glance around, puzzled by the presence of the mirrors yet delighted at the prospects of make-up. Walking over to the teacher's desk, she handed in her assignment before giving a brief bow. Then, turning around, she smiled happily at G as she walked past him; he's such a gentle giant! There are two ghouls without partners... But they were seated separately! Oh dear... She don't want to offend any of them by choosing one over the other! She paused, hesitating for a second before walking over to the Undead - at least she knows her name from the recent elections!

Sitting down beside her, Lizzy looked at herself in the mirror before throwing a side glance at her partner. Blushing slightly, she twirled a lock of hair around her finger, before plucking up the courage to speak, turning to face the Undead with a small smile, "U-um, hello... You are Rain, right?"

Shehk seemed all too happy to get rid of the shadow-candy wrapper that she'd gotten from Hellma's class when it came to the homework. Really, she couldn't have thought of a better way to represent a 'Fear of the Dark' (funny how that fear was close to her FEAR), but it was when she turned on the vanity's that she made a slight face, ears drooping a bit. So, she needed to take a seat, did she?

Well, she'd just take up...
...
ummm.
Hmmmmmmm.

Shehk ultimately meandered over to one of the empty Vanities and sat down, looking at her face in the mirror and seeming to frown just a bit. Well, she'd have to hope that someone she'd want to work with would want to work with her..or something. ;;

She had been so engrossed in her doodle that she didn't realize a ghoul had sat down beside her. Rain had spotted her in other classrooms, the lunchroom and in the halls but had never actually met her or spoken with her before. Attempting her friendliest smile (which was hard due to the pointed teeth), she bobbed her head up and down in a ferocious nod. "Rain, Rain Rottingham," she started before adding cordially, "Nice to meet you". She scanned her memory for a name but came up empty. If she had known it, it escaped her. "I don't believe we've met before, actually, so it's doubly nice to meet you!" She clapped her hands together loudly in excitement. If it drew the attention of other students, it escaped her.

The ghoul was so well groomed, a lovely sight in comparison to her own unkempt form. That's something Rain thought about often. Every student here was so different from one another but she absolutely loved it. Every one of them was special but most didn't realize it or took it for granted.

There were many things to sour Calder's mood. He had woken up late, meaning he was rushing to class. He also forgot his homework, and plopped down outside of the room with a box of crayons and started to draw. Sadly, his last-minute art was just as good as his spent-all-evening art. For starting school, he was finding the concept of homework very odd, and had been thinking of the theme he was given long and hard. Then he just gave up and thought that it would come to him. It seemed Calder has happened upon the familiar habit of procrastination, but that didn't stop him.

He at least remembered to bring crayons and paper, and scribbled the first thing that came to mind.

User Image

Well, it WAS what he thought about when being cold and empty. Someone with a big hole in their stomach and in cold water. Water always had a empty feeling, and while it was comforting to him, he knew the emptiness and lost darkness terrified others.

Stuffing his crayons and paper back into his leather satchel, he went into class with the sort of walk that said that he had his homework done AGES ago. He went over and set his paper on the desk, but froze when he saw the place was covered in mirrors. MIRRORS! Calder HATED mirrors.

His ears instantly went down as he looked at the pairs of seats before each one and people slowly mingling and claiming partners. He hated mirrors, and wanted to plop himself under a chair or behind one instead of directly in front. His eyes then went to several students poking and prodding makeup kits and he went even more green about the gills.

Old childhood memories came creeping up on him and he stuck out his tongue in distaste. He didn't want a partner and he didn't want a mirror either. Trying not to catch any attention, he moved over to a seat without a partner. Had he noticed Shehk was alone, he might have ran over to her, but he was rather preoccupied getting a seat and hoping there was an odd number of students to excuse him working alone.

He looked at the mirror. Unkempt hair sticking out at all angles, sticks poking out and a water bug crawling up one branch. His green eyes traveled to his deteriorating, torn clothes and ratty scarf, and then down to the makeup kit. He kicked it away with his shoe, letting it slide a foot towards the mirror.

This class was beginning to suck.

For reasons unknown, Davi felt kind of silly as she pulled her picture out of her pocket and smoothed it out. Thank fearfulness she'd brought her photo album with her to Amityville; the wolf thought she would have been stumped on this assignment forever otherwise. Come on, fear of being eaten? She had a pack, for Luna's sake. Eating and being eaten was as natural as bleeding. And because it was so natural, the garou had struggled with how to portray it since the moment that it was given to her.

User Image

Until last night, when she found the picture. The slightly larger werewolves in it weren't her pack. Uncle Gev had given it to her when he made her the album, saying that it was from their cousins in the north. She'd never seen the creature in the center, but heard through a few of the elders that it was good eatin'.

Davi loved the picture: it was the hunt almost ended, in the throes when the prey was going to die - period, end of nightmare - because the pack said so and wanted it done. It was a thrilling time...until she saw it from the hooves of the prey. Being run ragged, exhausted and terrified. Realizing that the creatures behind you were all jeers, snapping jaws, pointed ends. The longer she looked at the image, the more Davinica figured that for someone that didn't see it as a fact of life, the realization that you were going to be dinner now, 'kay? could be properly frightening. She'd never thought about it from the eyes of her food before.

Straightening the last crinkle, she handed in the shot. The vanities made her a little squeamish to look at, though she wouldn't admit it; she wasn't a monster with any love for makeup and fancy. Regardless, she wasted no time in sitting down across from Shekh. Her tail wagged weakly, ready to get up and move at a moment's notice. Even her smile was a little weaker than normal. "'Sup, coach?" The undead knew a lot of people. Maybe she was waiting for someone in particular?
