Lost knowledge of our western world

As some know the asian people were not the only people of the world to have armed and unarmed fighting styles. I have ran in to a lot of stuff like "What if knights knew martial arts" or "Mediaeval Combat consisted of Mindless Bashing" well for those who want to see some historical stuff on rarly seen western combat arts here it is.

Other than the normaly seen styles of western combat sport there are more realistic techniques for defence and killing. Those of us of western decent should know that we to have a history of fighting arts that date back past the greek and roman days. The knowledg is right up there with asian styles if you look at old manuals you may see a technique from karate or jujutsu we as humans have the same two arms and legs and due to our lack of good natural weapons like claws and fangs we have all learnd to kick and punch. The reson for most of our lack of knowledge on the subject is that over time weapons have become far greater at killing and therefore we have lost most of the knowledge of our history which is now being brought out of the closet for closer inspection.

And just imagine, it looks similar to asian martial arts. Like Bruce Lee says, there are only so many ways to move the human body.

Also, I'm REALLLY happy to see someone post about Bata. Irish martial arts are cool.

Ya Bata is fairly new to me I knew about it I just neever looked at it before. The english have a staff calld a quarter staff very efective swords axes spears some weapons that are known to many as just normal pole weapons were used as tree pruners this would be a bill hook that I am refering to it is used to hook armor and pull peoples feet out from under them. Some sword from europe resemble asian swords falchion's are a curved single edged sword that were very popular and rarly shown people think more of long swords than of what was actualy used for movies braveheart is good at showing some of the other weapons I am talking about some are useing things that are normal for pore foot soldiers.

I am glad to discover that someone else realises that there are more to martial arts then Kung Fu and Samurais.

As for weapon arts, the Western-made weapons wern't only effective, they were in many cases superior to their asian counterparts. Many Asian weapons were designed out of lack of materials, and for the love of God, Katanas are not the end-all beat-all weapon! A comfertable sword to use, yes... a superior killing machine in all melee cases, no.

I actually found a place downtown here that teaches Martial art of the Cane. I had never know about it before, had I not been looking up a place for a friend to learn Savate. I thought this was very interesting. And effective, even today. There are still many people who use canes... when need one, I should take it up. >.>

And don't even get me started on the Greeks and Romans. If there was anyone who loved training both their mind and body it was them. ^^

I remember reading an article in black Belt magazine about savate....how the art almost died because most of its practicioners died in WWII. Not saying anything about the style, since martial arts don't teach you to dodge bullets or survive mortar fire.

In WW2 new styles were created do to the use of trenches more confined spaces = more hand to hand. I have a magazine that talks about the combat clinch used in WW2. Rex Applegate and William E. Fairbairn helped to come up with a more emproved close combat system useing what they Knew they also developed a new knife that was used by the british comandos the Sykes-Fairbairn knife was developed by Eric Anthony Sykes and William Fairbairn.

I have heard of them but I don't know much of there style not shure I can trust it yet. Glima is the closest style I know that was used by the people we call Vikings. I want to find more on stav like pics or videos but I have not seen any yet I found a video for sale but didn't want to spend the money tell I know more. I did a lot of research on Vikings in school the way they lived and how they fought. I would love to find some good info on how they used the axe. Most would say ther is no real system to it but thats from the point of view of some one who has never seen one used.
