It was a bloody disaster. Her entire first brood had been a complete waste of time. Her three sons, two of which she hadn't seen since they were dropped off at their fathers pack, were of no reason to be excited. They were males, useless to her and the pack. Her one son was a slave, but there was no honor in that, just wasting previous food and space as far as she was concerned. And Azalea, she had been a promising pup to begin with, but now, she was just as disappointed in her as she was with her sons.

They had had a plan, an important one at that, to make Azalea the princess before Penthesilea had a litter. It had been going so well, the lessons in how to be a good leader, gaining the Queen's trust and then that blasted consort had impregnated the queen. There had still been hope back then, as long as the Queen had a male heavy litter Azalea still had a chance. But no fate was again them, the Queen have five daughters! Even if something happened to the pathetic and weak heir there were still four other females that needed to have something bad happen to them before Azalea had a shot at being the princess again. Now, there was a small, very small, chance that something that crazy could happen, but Thealia couldn't rely on that happening.

What she needed was to have another litter, only this time a female heavy litter and certainly not with that b*****d Corvus. It was clearly his fault that she had only one daughter. No what she needed was another male, one with good genes, good coloring and one that could provide her with an entire brood full of daughters. So she had taken a short leave from her pack in order to search for an appropriate male, even if it meant pretending to care and be a loving female for just one night, though she hated doing that it was really the only way.

It was starting to get cold again, ooooh . . . He really wished it didn't. Cold meant having to hide out underground if possible, or dig his way through snow, and less food to try and catch. Everything was dying or going away to settle for winter, and Erynion couldn't keep up. He had no idea where he was, but the bitter wind told him he was rather far north, and all instincts were telling him to get the hell away from north and move back to south. But south only had bad memories . . .

Well not all bad. There was kinda a few nicer memories from Ayita and the browny-black pups, "nicer" in this context meaning he wasn't alone. Otherwise he had been treated like the strangest thing they had ever seen, rather than a wolf. Ayita had been nice, but he couldn't just take her with him . . .

Although now that he had spent so much time alone again, Ery wondered if that had been a bad idea.

Now the loner was considering a most blasphemous thing: finding a pack to mooch off of or maybe consider living in. He couldn't handle this loner life-style much longer, and he was really afraid that he would soon die from it. At this point Erynion would have distracted himself with a bug hunt, but not even that would be possible: almost all of his little friends were gone away now with the cold weather.

It was with with a forlorn burden upon his shoulders that he chanced a glance around and then stopped immediately.

Green. Pretty green, he always was a fan of it. And pink! And some magenta or whatever you called it. And - and! She looked healthy unlike him, with a serious look on her face that made him immediately stop and tuck his tail. If he stayed still, she wouldn't notice him right . . . ?

The presence of the male was not lost upon Thealia as she smelled his wretched stench well before he came into view. It instantly made a growl rumble in her throat. Oh sure she had ventured outside of the packs territory in search of a male for a certain reason but that didn't mean she would be happy about coming across one. Her paws slowed to a crawl as she moved forward, stalking about the male in a large circle sizing him up. there as a great amount of satisfaction when she saw his tail tuck in between his legs. Well now, a male who seems to know his place.

As she crept silently through the foliage around him Thealia took a quite inventory of his condition. He was a decent sized male, a bit larger than Corvus was, but it was clear he didn't eat as well as he could. It really was pathetic how some wolves just couldn't survive that well outside of a pack environment. She could feed herself quite well and still remain in shape if even placed in the situation of being packless again. However with the way Antianeira was expanding that was likely not to happen anytime soon. Still it was good to know that in a pinch she could survive quite easily.

Leaving the bushes Thealia stepped towards the male, lips curled back in a snarl, low growl rumbling. "Just what are you looking at?" She questioned him, as she once again set about circling him. It was somewhat of a game to her to torment males like this. But it also gave her a better look at him. His colors weren't all that bad actually, not too far off her own, but clearly he never used his colors to his advantage when moving through the forest.

Wait a sec. Green against fall colors. Not exactly camouflaging even when standing still, big guy.

Now he'd done it.

Poor Ery was already imagining that, knowing his luck, this chick was a wolf-eater or something - maybe that was why she looked so not unhealthy, because there's always a wolf around to pounce and eat! He gulped as she encircled him menacingly, shuddering anxiously. "I-I-I s-s-s-sorry!" he stammered, wishing he was smaller, small like a nice ol' bug. Like a . . . like a dragonfly who could dart out of there faster than he could blink. Twitch, twitch, gone! "I-I-I didn't - I w-was just - !"

Nope, nothing coherent. Erynion winced and lowered his head, trying again weakly. "W-Wasn't lookin' at anything . . ."

Look at him stutter like a weak little pup, and was he not just that, a weak wolf by his gender alone. Why he couldn't even form a proper sentence, it was all quite pathetic. As she circled about him once more she sniffed his scent and gave her head a shake, then came to a stop in front of him. Cold eyes stared at him as he stammered like an idiot. "Oh but I think you were looking at something." She half growled, taking in a great pleasure that this male was so easily intimidated. He was perhaps too weak for her purposes but that didn't mean she couldn't have a little fun with him.

"You smell awful." Her voice jabbed at him, scowling at the idea of being this close not only to a male but a smelly one at that. "Are you too stupid to take care of yourself?" She questioned, eyes roaming over his frame once more taking in his unhealthy body. Really was it that hard to hunt down small prey or even scavenge off the corpse of someones kill? No it wasn't but some wolves just failed miserably at life in general and it seemed this male was one of them.

Yes, a wolf-eater! Oh gods, oh gods, why him?! Circling him, sniffing him, and and - wait, she was shaking her head. Was he unappealing to her tastes? Why yes he could be! Ery had all but forgotten that he was a little . . . odorous. Would that be his saving grace? Oh gods, oh gods . . . !

"A-Awful, yeah! Awful and terrible, n-n-not for eating," he squeaked, ears pinned against his skull. "Forget to bathe, mhhmm, the water's too c-cold. I roll in m-mud to cover up the bad smell." He couldn't look into her eyes, feeling that doing so might wordlessly communicate he thought he could take her on or something. Which would be a bad idea. Very bad idea.

Heck, he even took the stupid insult in stride, if it meant avoiding confrontation.

"I-I was just walkin' along and I saw you and thought it was nice to s-see a pretty green wolf . . ."

"Only a fool would want to eat something as disgusting as you." She pointed out to him with a growl rumbling in her throat. "You think that mud will cover up that smell? It only makes it worse." Plus what moron rolls in the mud anyways, it is horribly uncomfortable when it dries on ones coat. Thealia began to circle him once more only this time she moved painfully slow, much like you would around a wounded prey beast when you knew the kill was as good as yours but wanted to torment it just a bit more. Slinking up beside him Thealia put her head right beside his. "Saw a pretty green wolf did you?" Her eyes looked out towards the trees for a few moments to where she had earlier emerged to inspect him.

"And what would you do with a pretty wolf at your side hm?" She stepped forward moving to circle him again but allowed her tail to brush up against his side. This was all a game to her, a game that she played so well. First you fear them, then you start to play nice and then they are too confused to know whats good and whats bad for them. And with males it was so easy to accomplish that it really took little effort most times.

And confused he was, because he didn't know what the right answer would be to get him out of the situation. Also, he had never imagined a pretty wolf by his side. Or an ugly one for that matter. Ery thought he was always going to be alone, always unless he found his family again . . .

He gulped audibly despite having quite the dry mouth at this point.

"N-...Nothing?" he tried at first, and then didn't like it. "Something . . . ?" It was all very hard to think with her circling at a distance and then brushing against him, calling him a fool and yet letting him smell her nice scent . . . What was going on? If she didn't want to eat him, what was she going to do?

But Erynion didn't dare try to speed things up in fear that she might attack him.

"I was just admiring, miss," he mumbled truthfully, still keeping his gaze on the ground for the most part, darting glances only when he thought prudent. "W-Wasn't thinking anything else, promise."

Oh yes she had him wrapped around her paw in that small, instant change of face. Males were just far too easy to manipulate, a gentle touch, a simple smile and they would do what you wished without even thinking about it. Sad and pathetic, that's really what it was. "Something?" She asked with a somewhat flirty smile on her maw.

Thealia circled around him again, only this time her body was more relaxed, her movements more slow and deliberate. It was to lure him in even more, which honestly at this point shouldn't be too hard. It was a miracle he was still standing under his own strength. "Do you admire everyone that you see? Or are your eyes only for special ladies?"

She doubted he wasn't thinking anything else, but Thealia allowed him his delusions for the time being. Her eyes roamed over him again and his poor looking self. He probably didn't ear much or had a real den to sleep in. Not that she cared anyways, but if she showed some concern for his well being, even if it was fake, it would string him along that much more. "My it looks like you haven't eaten in a while. Do you even have a den to sleep in at night?" It sickened her horribly to act like she cared with this male, but it was all different moves in the game.

Now he was severely confused, but thankfully managed to hold back the whimper he often made to convey it. First she'd been all "rawr, what are you doing, you fool!", and now she was all "Uh-huh, I know you like what you seeeeee". What . . . what the heck? While his heart leapt in his throat and was hard to swallow, something else down below seemed to stir and awaken: desperation knew no pride, instinctually reacting to what appeared to be an open invitation for a very warm den.

But Erynion wasn't used to it and was quite uncomfortable with this whole situation, and on an on he wondered how he got himself into these things. How?

"I-I . . . Um . . . Not tonight," he answered, not finding the right words to answer her earlier questions. "D'you know if I can find one n-nearby?" Half of him wanted to leave before things got stickier, and the other half was curious if this female could be his free ticket to a satisfied stomach. But she seemed . . . dangerous almost.

She could just leave right now, and crush any hopes he had of a meal and a place to sleep. Wouldn't that be a sight to see. And it would bring her a bit of happiness to see his spirit crushed like like a mere bug under ones paw. And yet...it seemed almost a shame to do so. Why end the fun now, she could certainly string him along for a while longer and in doing so crush him even more. Yes, that sounded like a much better plan and a smile danced across her maw for a moment.

"Oh...I might know where to find one, and a meal as well. Looks like you could us a good one." Paws brought her around him once more to stand face to face with him. "And if you do wish to do something with that pretty green female that you saw, I would suggest doing so in the privacy of a den. Why you wouldn't want another to stumble upon the scene now would you?"

She leaned forward, so that her nose nearly touched his. "Come along then. Let us find you what you are looking for." Remaining where she was for a moment Thealia slowly pulled away, but made sure her eyes looked at him in that alluring sort of way. Then she turned and began to pad away, looking over her shoulder to ensure that he was following.

"Do . . . do something?" He had mixed feelings about the implications. Ery wasn't the brightest flower in the valley, so he wasn't sure if he could believe what instinct was pointing towards. He hadn't been properly raised by adults and had missed out on a lot of the regular knowledge a wolf learned by now. All he had to go by were the female's hints and the odd physiological reactions elicited by them.

One being he was swimming with confusing, conflicting emotions. After being quite chill for many a day, Ery was not well prepared. All he heard was "meal" and the promise of a den, and that was good enough for him. Whatever the other wolf wanted, he supposed he could accomplish afterwards . . . He hoped fervently it didn't involve more name-calling.

"U-Um, thanks . . ." He licked his dry lips and followed after, trying his best not to shuffle his paws. "I'm Erynion, 'fore I forget. N-Never been so far north before, 'cause I was born down South. So y-yeah, just a little lost . . ."

Thealia led him along a well worn path for a few moments without saying anything. She had heard him introduce himself as Erynion but did not truly care to know his name nor acknowledge at that moment that she had in fact heard him. Instead she was thinking, plotting what twisted thing to do next to him. When a brilliant idea struck she brought her paws instantly to a stop, spinning around to face him. "This place will do nicely." She told him with a smile. Yes there was bound to be something to hunt nearby and a quick glance around showed a few potential den sites, including a large hollow tree not far from where the pair stood. But those would only be used if he could not complete the task she had in mind.

"Why don't you start digging, right there." Thealia motioned with her muzzle to a soft patch of dirt to the left of them. "And I will see what we can find to feed you." Stepping forward she slipped past him, making his to ever so gently brush her shoulder against him as she did so. Once she was a few feet away her head swiveled around glancing at him once more. "Make sure you dig that den nice and big." Before turning around and slipping off into the trees, the scent of rabbit filling his nostrils already.

Di...Digging?

As in she didn't already have a den of her own?

But . . . But . . . ! He was tired, hungry, and cold, not fit to do anything more than maybe move to find actual shelter - certainly not build it!

But by the time he had managed to move cogitation beyond the shock of having to literally work for his meal, the female (whose name he still didn't know, he realized) had already left him instructions and was moving onward, presumably on the prowl. Only when he thought he was alone did Erynion sigh and begin his dirty work.

"Nice and big . . . nice and b-big . . ."

Anything for a meal, right? Anything for a meal . . .

Erynion was no expert in gauging size for dens, but after the first several minutes of harrowing digging he found he was making progress at a slow but steady rate. He just had to keep reminding himself: there is warm food at the end of this, warm food at the end of this . . . And though Ery thought himself small, he had an impressive frame for a male wolf, and strength he thought was nonexistant was slowly coming to him.

Mostly adrenaline to avoid displeasing the female, but still.

It took little time for Thealia to track down and kill the rabbit, in fact she managed to snatch two as a second one bolted across the forest trying to reach the safety of it's burrow as the first one died. But it had not been fast enough and Thealia had grabbed hole of it's neck a few feet from it's burrow. This one however she did not kill, no it was to remain alive until she reached the spot where she had left Erynion. In fact that brought up a good point, why was she going back to the half starving male in the first place? Surely if he couldn't catch his own food or find shelter unassisted then he was completely unworthy of anything but some angry words and perhaps a beating.

Picking up the second dead rabbit while retaining hold of the still alive and fighting rabbit took a few moments but soon she was off again heading back to the small clearing where the green male should be busy digging a den. As she rounded a tree her eyes fell upon Erynion as he busied himself digging the hole. Part of her wanted to jump forward and scare the crap out of him, but she could probably do that with little effort really, he did seem a bit jumpy when she first ran into him.

Padding forward on silent feet Thealia walked into the clearing, and came to a stop behind Erynion a few paces away. She set the dead rabbit down and then placed a paw on the still living one before pulling her teeth from it's neck. The rabbit scrambled to get away but Thealia had it pinned to the ground. "Are you not done yet?" He voice called out to the male. The rabbit clawed at the ground trying in desperation to escape, this only made Thealia press down more with her paw, and the rabbit screamed.
