Synagogues were targeted this time, but all houses of worship in Chicago should be on alert for suspicious packages. http://www.wgntv.com/news/wgntv-jewish-institutions-on-high-alert-suspicious-packages-oct30,0,6183535.story

This is my community. Since moving to my current apartment in 2008, I have been aware of nearly a dozen anti-Semitic incidents. These include broken windows, spray-painted slogans and symbols, a vandalized/deconstructed sukkah, called-in bomb threats, and now these two actual bombs that were found addressed to synagogues in my town.

Almost as bad as the incidents themselves is the fact that often, law enforcement agencies do not release the names of the intended targets until several days or weeks later that the incident. Dear Police: When a Jewish individual or organization is targeted, the resulting turmoil should be greeted by a flood of community members bearing casseroles, offering to help clean up the mess, and contributing funds to repairs and medical expenses. We are Jews. We want to help our fellow Jews. Kthxbai!

Also disturbing is that when we don't know who the targets were, and our relatives hear about the incidents, we can't reassure them. "No, Mom, the targeted synagogue was way across town from me." I can't say that, this time, because I don't know -- they might also be the place that I can see from my bedroom window, or the place a mile away where I'm a member, or the place I used to attend and still have friends.

If anyone here is seriously asking themselves whether anti-Semitism really still exists in their country, in their state, in their city, in their school, in their workplace... Yes. It probably does. At least, I know it sure as heck exists in mine.

newspaper should print these things right away ironicly if it was a church it would already be reported which is very sad indeed

Jewangel, it WAS reported in many newspapers and online news sources. I was given to understand that there were solid reasons that the targets weren't identified publicly immediately. Now that they have been notified themselves, I'm pretty sure the information is out there.

Yeah, I don't really watch the news, but I do watch Saturday Night Live and they mentioned it in the Weekend Update news section, which they only do for the bigger news stories.

Funny thing is that they keep saying we don't peace, yet we do not bomb their places of worship.

That was all over our news here! Crazy!

You know, there isnt a lot (if any) of antisemitic fueled violence here. Really, it would make the news (Since there is like 1 synagogue within a 3 hour radius)! Plenty of Mosques and churches to bomb though...
