I sat down with my 3 year old this morning to watch some cartoons... She was bummed cause her brother and his friend (who stayed overnight) left to go with Pappa to go to his Hanger/shop at the airfield.
So anyway... "Go Diego Go!" came on, which I never had a problem with, but I couldn't help my mind being gutterfied. He has to go rescue some animals under the ocean, and he gets a giant octopus to help. They come to some volcanoes that are getting ready to erupt, and they sing a song about blowing them with their mouths. Then at the end there is a song about the octopus squirting....
Is it just me? Or does this sound overly suggestive to anyone else?

I think part of the problem is that the sex industry has a dirty innuendo for almost every word and expression. xp

Well, all little kid shows are like that. Dora the Explorer? She barely wears an appropriate outfit for any school!

I don't know guys...
I tried to write it off to that the first time and forget about it, but I had only caught a little of the song. When I watched it, and saw the second song, all I could think about is that the writers know the innuendo. They didn't have to make a song about blowing erupting shafts with your mouth, then in the same episode make a song about squirting... They surely could have come up with a different obstacle (or at least a different way to defeat it) than the whole volcano scene they put in...
I don't know. I tried to shrug it off to my corrupted mind, but I just can't justify it all off as completely innocent coincidence.
I am going to try to find the songs at least, if not the whole episodes. It seems that Nickelodeon protects their property most efficiently though, so I may fail completely.

It's difficult to find the right balance between complete disregard for adult innuendos that kids find completely innocent, and so over cautious and politically correct that the show isn't entertaining. I mean no one can use the word "p***y" to describe a cat any more and just forget about "erecting a tent" when you're camping.
At my house, we've had to vito half the PBS shows my daughter likes. No Sesame Street because Bert and Ernie are no longer brothers and are a poor example of ANY relationship and Oscar is all-too-easy to emulate. We had to cut out Caillou because the kid would have full on tantrums and his parents would do NOTHING. Barny has NEVER been allowed in our house, nor has Dora or Diego or Bratz or Winks.
My daughter survives on Veggie Tales, Clifford, Dinosaur Train, Magic School Bus, Tinkerbell, Care Bears and things like that.

I LOVE Veggie Tales.
I really am not all too upset about the Diego. My daughter won't be corrupted by things she has no clue about. I just don't want her happily trotting through Wal-Mart at my side innocently singing "Blow with your mouth, Blow with your mouth." I mean seriously. I am sure the Bible Belt fanatics in the area would try to take her away from me right then and there without waiting for DFS and an explanation.

I know how you feel. My daughter has a bad habit of not completing words. For example, when she yells out, "Mommy, do my butt, I need my butt!" she's really asking for me to fix her buttons. xp

I know how you feel about blacklisting toys and movies. We do that in my house as well. Banning Barney was a decision I made when I was 14 and taking care of my infant (at the time) niece. My husband had made the same decision before we met.
Brats, Winks, Spongebob, Chowder, Teletubbies, are just a few to name for our house.
We pretty much stopped PBS altogether. I have an aversion for puppets and character suits anyway, so it wasn't hard to make the PBS call for me.
We stopped Franklin for awhile because of some of his behaviors, but the show was about addressing those behaviors. It's just that allot of those things we never dealt with until after the show addressed it. LOL
I am not real fond of Dora or Diego. I myself am honestly against the whole needing to learn Spanish to accommodate immigrants. If I went to another country to live, it would be expected and probably even required of me to learn the predominate language of that country. The people around me wouldn't have to learn English to accommodate me.... yet, I didn't really see anything wrong with either of the shows themselves until today.
...but I have decided to reevaluate the shows that we do watch here.

meh.. I'm neither realy for or against the teaching Spanish to accomodate immigrants" deal, but I do think it couldn't hurt to add Spanish to the mandatory curriculum... there's nothing wrong with having multiple National Languages, and I'd be happy to learn. I think the other folks should quit whining about it.
but back on-topic... those shows have freaked me out for a while now. xp I don't mind the occaisional innuendo popped in for the sake of adults' fun, as long as they make sure it's harmless to a growing child.. but keep it out of the catchy lyrics and immitatable outfits! gonk
I know that pbs hasn't been turned on in this house for so long, that hearing the names of some of these shows is ringing bells that make me go, "OH! I forgot these existed!"

I can just imagine the people sitting at their desks snockering. It's just like the Lion King and Little Mermaid and all... They know they can get away with it because kids love the shows and do not understand it, but the parents are pretty pissed about it. I was suprised with some of the Halloween costumes the shops had. I mean really, two of the girls' n****e would have been showing in real life and this is a PG-13 site. I'm not sure I want my 13 year old thinking that's okay...
And we do have limits here. I hate Spongebob. It gets pretty grotesque at times, but for some reason I love Chowder O.o I usually watch that when Elena is preoccupied or asleep. Absolutely no South Park when she is awake. Futurama is fine because it is not blatant and really is not that bad. And with some shows there are some toys that I don't want my kids to have until they are older/at all. Bratz and Barbies are the top two... There are a ton of other really cute dolls out there. We don't need big eyed bimbos for playthings...

I don't mind Barbies so much as long as they are modest. I prefer the ones with clothes painted on for now. I don't mind my daughter playing princess ballet, or fairytales with hers.
I hate Bratz. Seriously, when the name itself is so blatant about the spirit that the dolls portray. I am trying to teach my kids to be respectful and caring of others, and the dolls glorify selfish materialism. GAHHH.

I mean, now a days you need to veto (Vito?) everything for little kids. And Veggie Tales was never aloud in my house~ Me and my friends were afraid of it. O___O But, when such little kid shows are not aloud, you must think of how shows and movies such as 'Quire as Folk' and 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' are aloud. Really, my parents never cared what I watched, just as long as I did not talk about the bad stuff at school. ^___^
On the Spanish note, it is to help you know how to talk to people and such~ Plus, great way to ease drop!
Edit: The dolls? I never had them. Mostly my mum refused to buy them because they replace my imagination more. And Bratz was stupid~ .-. How ever! G.I.Joe was perfect!

Well, I am working on Japanese, and my daughter thinks it's cool. I kinda wish I had a 3 year old's ability to learn things quickly, she seems to pick it up faster than I do.
I am pretty strict about TV, games, and movies though. My son only watches a half hour a night, and the TV in the den stays on Nick Jr. and the preschool Disney shows through the day. My daughter doesn't usually stay in front of the TV for more than 5 minutes at a time, but I leave it on to take advantage of the rare breaks that it affords me when it does catch her attention. I am sure I speak for all the parents here when I say it is the things that you would most hate your children to learn and repeat that they learn first.

Well that is cool~ It is a very pretty language! And they are to good at learning things. .-.
Psh, being strict is good but, when it comes to somethings if you are strict about it, when your child gets older, they will have a harder time making friends because of certain things. At least that is what I found. If I had been sheltered, I would have never met any of my friends. At times that would be good but, it would also be terrible~ There are just somethings you can never protect your lovelies from. Like knowing about sex. Unless you never let them look at a magazine~ O___O
