The remainder of the chapter is devoted to character advancement.

When a character gains Experience Points (EXP), the character gets closer and closer to gaining a LVL. When the character gains enough EXP to pass a certain mark on the Experience Table, the character's LVL is incremented by one up to the next LVL.

To advance one Level, a character must earn achieved an amount of XP equal to their current Level times 500. Note that XP totals are not cumulative; earning 500 XP to advance to Level 2 does not mean you need only 500 XP to reach Level 3.

* Experience Table

When a character gains a Level, the following things happen:

1. The numerical value of the character's Level increases by 1, in case you are confused. This therefore also affects all formulae which use LVL in them, in case you were confused about that too.

2. The character gains 1 attribute point, which may be allocated toward any one attribute so long as this will not increase the attribute beyond the character's Racial Maximum + Job Bonus. If the character has already reached Racial Maximum + Job Bonus in all stats, an attribute point may be spent to increase the maximum of a single stat by one point, so that the next attribute point gained may be used there. No stat maximum may ever surpass 30 in this manner.

3. The character gains 10 skill points, which may be used to increase skills, and 6 Lore points, which may only be spend on languages and lores. It takes 1 skill point to increase a skill by 1. If the character has an affinity to a certain skill category, it takes 1 skill point to increase a skill in that category by 2. No skill may be increased by more than 2. No skill may exceed 100.

4. The character rolls Hit Point and Magic Point dice and adds the results of these rolls to the maximum values of Hit Points and Magic Points respectively. This does not increase the current amount which the character has. The character then adds (VIT / 2) to the maximum HP and (SPR / 2) to the maximum MP. This also does not increase the current amount of HP or MP.

XP Required is the XP that is needed to reach that level on top of the XP that the character already has.

Total XP is the total amount of XP that the character must have in order to reach that level.

If this confuses you, just look at Total XP and ignore XP Required.

Let XP Required be represented by f(x)
f(x)=500(x-1)
Let Total XP be represented by g(x)
g(x)=f(x)+g(x-1), g(1)=0
