Zink slid into the booth at the pizza shop, as Zac, far less conspicuous than walking around with a padlock around his waist and a long coat and ninja-smoke mask.
Plus it was hard to eat pizza that way.
He checked his watch and opened the menu and scanned down it picking what he thought looked tolerable for consumption.
He elected to go the simple route with 'breadsticks' a small salad and a soda, but waited to order. He looked again at his watch and glanced towards the door expectantly, Fayalite...aka 'Toki' should be here soon, and he didn't feel she had any -real- excuse to be late with the way she drove.
His assignment was important, as was his need to keep it out of the ears of the other team members. Each person on his team would have special duties, he'd decided that...and he wanted to impart HERS before he named his 'second in command'.

Things have changed so much in her life since she was in the negaverse. While her life used to consist of just class and her job... now their was other duties to fill in the holes. Not that she hated it, she just sometimes found it difficult to not be late for things. Not that she was against skipping class to make sure she was not late.
Also, driving like a bat outa hell helps.
She prided herself on not being late for things... willing to press the petal on her car a little harder to make sure. She mused proudly to herself about not being late as the pizza place door closed behind her with a clack. Once upon a time ago she was assigned a captain, and soon after she was assigned...something happened to said captain. A little later... she was assigned a new one. To her surprise and shock, her new captain was the short boy with the napoleon complex... whom she stole for a shopping trip that one day. Oh yeah that was an awkward reunion. She shivered once, feeling a gaze on her back as she turned around so neon pink eyes met his calculating blue. Captain Zinkenite looked as if she was late, then again he seemed to always have that look... eh he can deal with it she was 10 minutes early!
Walking towards him she scooted carefully into the other side of the booth, and grabbed a menu. "Afternoon, Captain." Even in civilian.... Toki might be mood swingy, but she knew respect...sometimes.

Surprisingly he nodded after another glance at his watch, he looked, just for a moment -pleased, though that vanished with a sharp look when she said 'captain'. "Zac" He said waving to the seat across from him for her to sit down. "Good timing..." He added as he handed her the menu.
"Lunch is on me, but we have some important things to discuss, I'd like to assign you a special task in the team... if you think you can handle it. Aside from being my 'heavy hitter' I mean." He said with a small nod.

She eyebrow quirked at that. "Alright.... Capt." She added with a shrug, she really didnt see why he was so against her saying it... for all anyone else knew he could be a captain of a sports team or something. She tended to call all 'highers' up their titles... as long as they held her respect. Otherwise they were called "hey you" etc.
Toki nodded once at the offer, nodding was sort of her way of saying 'thanks' silently. She ordered a single slice of pizza and a soda.
Leaning back in her seat she looked relaxed to any onlookers, but her face betrayed that comfortable look... it showed that she was listening intently with determination. Zac would occasionally refer to her as the 'heavy hitter' of their small team, probably due to having a metal pole and a willingness to shove it where the sun done shine if she didn't like you. "What is the task?" Not a yes not a no but a curiosity.

"I want you to watch Selenite when I can not..."He said bluntly and ordered his own meal in turn, though, looking at a nearby table and seeing what passed for a 'small' salad he opted out of that portion of it, deciding that whatever warren of rabbits that quantity of greenery would feed needed it far more than he.
"She'll be out second in command, which means when I'm not there you have someone whom you can rely on. We -WILL- have more team members, so this is important. I want your word that you'll report to me if she tries to trod on any of us to further her own ambition... will you do that for me?"
He paused and leaned back slightly with a polite smile as their drinks were set for them and waited till the waitress wandered away.
"It's simply that I don't trust anyone yet, not a question of her skills... I just want to know what might otherwise miss."

The news about their second in command didn't seem to phase her the least, she figured that Selenite would be named it. She was afterall, similar to zink in a sense she had ambition... and the brains to lead a team as well. She listened for a while, without saying anything. When the waitress came around with their drink orders she placed a straw in hers and took a sip before she replied.
"In other words your asking me to listen to her orders while your not around, but also play double agent and watch her steps." She grinned around her cup, betraying that she liked this idea and would enjoy this task. Taking another sip she placed the cup back down and resettled in the chair. "Trust is something earned not given." Her mind started to travel to what was in this for her... but he WAS buying her pizza. Toki closed her eyes for a moment, suggesting she was thinking about her answer but what she really was thinking of... was if she was found out. She had two flaws, which could be considered good yet bad. She always wondered what was 'in for her' about things, but she also chose to listen to this request this time... A: He was her captain and B: He bought her pizza.
But did he know her other fault...
"Yeah ill watch her for you."

A small glint in the bluenet's eyes... "Is that a promise..." he said and there was for just a moment an almost playful look in his eyes. Like a cat batting at a small toy or a little mouse but it quickly vanished behind his normal serious expression.
"I do agree though, trust...and respect, are both earned. I have every confidence that you will be able to earn both from me. I think it will help you advance in so much as you wish to." He nodded slightly to encourage her.

"....So you know." s**t. Her eyes flashed emotions when the word 'promise' was said. It was a vow she had to herself as a child... one that practically no one knew. It was something she decided to leave out of conversations, because in the end it was a way to control her. If Toki said the word 'promise' when making a deal... she set it in stone and it WOULD be. While she might get other tasks done first... the promised one will always happen or she would die trying. She would question how HE knew.......but information gathering was his specialty.
The waitress passed by leaving their orders on the table... lingering around a little too much for her liking, Toki shot a glad at the woman. She fled away soon after.
Taking a bite out of the pizza slice she ordered, huh it tasted good, she swallowed it before squaring her shoulders... and making her eyes meet his. "Ill promise it." Mental sigh here.
Oh great... that last comment she was pretty sure was his way of saying 'dont fail me.' With that comment he was telling her not what she might do but what he expected her to do. He was good with words... that alone earned him a little respect from her. "I'm pretty sure it will work both ways." A grin, but also a showing that she was loyal and would help him achieve his own goals as well.

"I'm a man of my word as well, and I will not leave you 'hanging' unless you do something so grievous it's the only way you will learn. Fortunately..." He said and paused and took a bite of his own bread stick, dipped it into the red-sauce he'd gotten for them, tried again and nodded.
"Fortunatly...you seem to be able to read between the lines, thats why I wanted you for my team." He said with that glint allowed once more to show. "I have some pet projects...to try and draw more people to the team, I trust you'll be discrete when I handle them..."
His tone barred no argument, as though the agreement they had just come to would naturally extend to whatever his 'pet project' was.
"And I'm open to suggestions if you think someone would fit -well- on our team."

"Ill make sure not to ******** up then." Toki said, taking another bite of the pizza. "Besides.... as you somehow discovered, my word if spoken correctly..is law to me. If anyone wants to last long in this world you need to learn to read between the lines." She followed with a knowing smile, and a nod. "Elsewise..... well you gotta learn the hard way sometimes."
"...Pet project?" She asked curiously, wondering what he meant exactly by 'pet'. Was it a youma? ... But he said on their team and she seriously doubted they would have youma on their team. "I hope you don't mind if i ask if their is any way i can be of assistance, besides keeping my yap shut?" She bit back the bigger question of asking WHAT it was exactly.... but she had a sinking suspicion, he wouldnt tell. Why tell a peon a plan, right?

"Not yet..." He said and took another bite of breadstick and a sip of soda. "Right now It's...fairly personal. But as soon as it's ready I'll be sure to give you a ...run down of it. I want my team to be -smart- get in the heads of those who oppose us not just in their faces, that's the only way we're going to make a difference.
He said it with a fierceness that lit his face up, strength very much has its place but without wits behind it... useless."

"I guess some cope with this lifestyle by not thinking about it." Those that were forced into this lifestyle probably. " Personally, i find that boring and tunnel visioned and a bit of a meat head complex." She took a sip of her drink and nibbled more on the pizza, almost finished with it. "Why have a mind if your not going to use it you know?" Unless they wanted it added on as useless weight. Toki was lucky that Zink requested her when she lost her old team.
"But yeah ill be patient, no rush or anything to tell me. I trust you to tell me when or even if you needed me."

Zink nodded, he was more and more satisfied to have chosen her for his team. He knew sooner or later his luck would run out and he'd wind up with some...mouthy ingrate who thought they didn't have to follow orders... but he hoped, that time would not be before he made sure that his current team 'settled in'

Silence... silence was something she got a lot of, and enjoyed, but silence from her Captain meant he was in his mind thinking. She wondered if she had said something wrong, or was he silently agreeing with her? He DID nod but was it a nod of approval or a nod of pondering....
She thought she was thinking far too much.
Taking a sip of her cola, she cleared her throat. "Though when it comes to taking in others to our team... I cannot think of anyone off the top of my head. " While they were a organized unit... one of their greatest weaknesses is while they were organized, they were not as well. There were TONS of negaversers out there that Toki had not met... nor even heard of.

"Keep your eyes and ears open." He nodded, he too had only peripheral exposure to most people. He wasn't sure it was enough to base 'claims' on and while some had interested him, their attitudes had turned him off as a potential hinderance to plans in the long run.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small note card, it had a cell phone number on it.
"In case you need to reach me. Don't... use anything but Zac please, and arrange to meet if its about anything important... it's a trac phone and If it falls into the wrong hands we don't need them learning anything useful."
He shrugged slightly.
