I'm 12, (13 on Monday). When we had physicals for basketball, (sometime in October) I weighed 216...now I weigh somewhere from 200-207. I'm 6' 0"
And I've been measuring myself:
waist: 37 and a half inches hips: 41 inches
These are the only two thins I've been trying to watch. But about a week ago, I was 38 inches around the waist. But I've been eating less... not to the point where I'm starving myself, (I've already been through that.), but I don't know if that's good or bad... and I need help.
I need somone to talk to who knows what they're talking about, someone who can support me in losing weight, and kind of keep me on track. I'm too embarassed to ask my parents. But if there's anyone who wants to help, my e-mail is morbid_wound@yahoo.com

Wow, you just turned 13, and you're my height? Do you not mind being so tall, or is it akward? Anyways, for your height, your weight certainly is'nt very bad, I'm sure you're very pretty. Your measurements are'nt bad either, though I'm a guy, I'm actually about the same, and have never considered myself "fat" (though I'm not a twig either). If you try, you can lose weight- just don't do anything crazy. I support your efforts. Good luck.

I did try to go on a crash diet for a few months.. I didn't get hurt, but it does kind of help me now. I get full easier so I don't eat as much, but I'm not completley starving myself. Btw, I'm not that pretty, I have a big nose... it's part of the family. All the guy's on my dad's side of the family have big noses.. and it's not that akward being tall. I've gotten used to it.
But thanks for the support. biggrin

I weighed myself on the scale I weighed myself on at physicals, and I've only lost 3 pounds. I run myself to death at basketball practice, then I get home and play DDR. So it's either turned into muscle or I'm just going to have to live with being overweight.

Don't shoot yourself down like that. Big noses are'nt always ugly xp . My art teacher has a big nose, but she still has a pretty face. I don't even really notice it. Also, if you lost three pounds since your first post, you're losing weight at a good rate. Losing 2-3 pounds a week is considered healthy weight loss. Give yourself a pat on the back, and know that in a month, you could be 12 lbs. lighter.

It's not about eating less. It's about eating properly.
But any plan to lose weight needs to be discussed with your doctor before anything else.

the_kewlest_loser_ever I weighed myself on the scale I weighed myself on at physicals, and I've only lost 3 pounds. I run myself to death at basketball practice, then I get home and play DDR. So it's either turned into muscle or I'm just going to have to live with being overweight. 3 pounds is not bad at all. Despite what people see on shows like Biggest Loser, 10 pounds is NOT a normal weight loss for a single week unless you are living and working with a trainer. And even then, it may be a bit much to sustain that. If you are exercising and eating right, then 3 pounds is great. Focus on losing a bit at a time. When I set weight loss goals for myself, it's usually only 5-10 pounds in a month. And it's quite a good possibility (as you said) that it's going so slow because some of the fat is becoming muscle. DDR is essentially jumping around (I'm not mocking it - I love the game, too), and that can give your legs (especially your calves) a SERIOUS workout, thus adding muscle. Running in basketball is the same thing - you're working the muscles in your legs really, really hard. This is not a bad thing, but it could potentially be on reason that your weight loss is not as drastic as you want it to be. But again, 3 pounds is none too shabby. Don't expect miracle 5-10 pounds a week. Just be smart about what you do and how you eat. And as Inscriven said, don't eat less, just eat better. Replace a snack of chips with carrot slices or get low-fat cookies instead of high-cal, high-fat ones. If you're a chocolate addict like I am, get some dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. And don't cut out good stuff entirely. Even when I'm dieting, I still allow myself some fatty treats (Dove ice cream is SO addicting). If you cut out foods that you love entirely, you may be setting yourself up to fail. Just be smart, and when in doubt, ask someone here or ask a doctor/nurse/someone who would know about proper diet and exercise.
