History of Piracy Piracy in the Golden Age In a time not so long ago, Pirates ruled the sea. The Spanish had just discovered the vast amount of gold in the mountains of America, they sent only merchant ships to pick up the gold, then return to Spain, while the conquistadors stayed on land to keep the hold over the natives. Many Pirates rose to fame on the easy pickings of the unprotected merchant ships, but the freedom of Piracy couldn't be maintained for long. With Piracy making no-name brigand sailors into some of the most feared men in the world, it wasn't long before nations decided to gain from the idea of Piracy. Portugal and England began to pay Pirates to steal only from Spanish ships and give a portion of the profits to them, in exchange none of their ships would attack the known ally Pirate ship. Most Pirates disagreed with this notion at first, but when Spain began to have their merchant ship escorted by a battle ship. This made the once easy targets of merchant ships, now a struggle for the Pirates. With British ships now attacking any Pirate ships on sight, it began to become much more difficult. When more and more Pirates began to take the deal the British had to offer, there became a divide between the two types of Piracy, the original Pirates, and those working under England. England dubbed the Pirates who worked with them as Privateers. England then told the Privateers to distance themselves from the regular riffraff Pirates. The easiest way to do that was for the Privateers to attack the Pirates on sight. Not only were Pirates fighting a now escorted merchant ship, they had no idea of knowing when a Privateer was waiting around the corner to rob them of what they had just stolen. Not long after Privateers began to work solely for England, did Spain grow very tired of losing their merchant ships. In order to protect their ships, it was going to take far more than a lone escort ship. The Spanish began their retaliation by building the Spanish Armada. The Spanish now had a whole fleet to protect merchant ships they deemed important enough, putting much more strain on Piracy. Piracy Now
Recently the number of Pirate plundering both British and Spanish ships has dropped significantly, with an almost even split between the number of Privateers and Pirates. The Spanish Armada has been attacking both ships on sight. Recently rumors have begun circulating through the Pirate community about the famous pirate Long John Silver's death. No one of either Privateers have seen him in almost two years, but he was rumored to have gotten around the Armada with out them knowing, taking ten whole merchant ships full of gold. In another rumor, the English have been told the Privateers to ask any and all merchant ships that they attack about the Spanish Armada before they retreat. The reason for seeking knowledge about the Armada has yet to be known, but the Pirates say it's to seek knowledge about what Long John did with the ships.

Rules 1. Follow TOS, and the rules of the League. 2. Before any ship can be sunk, you must have permission from any and all non NPC's on the ship. Then you and all members from the opposing ship must PM me saying the name of the ship that will be sunk, and that it has been agreed upon. 3. PM me all profiles. If you wish to have your own ship, please send me the name of the ship as well. Perhaps a picture if you so wish. Note that I intend for all characters of the same side on one maybe two ships eventually. For the starts it would be alright for everyone to have their own ship. If you wish to be a crew member on another member's ship, please send them the request, than have them send a quote of the request and that they accept, should they so choose. 4. Keep things realistic. All technology stays at about the level of musket technology. Probably the most advanced piece of technology being a blunderbuss. 5. Romance and violence allowed, but keep it PG 13. 6. Enjoy yourself. If at any point you don't feel like you are having fun, let me know. I'll try to sort out any problems.

Safe Havens Each Faction has a town which is generally considered to be a Safe Haven of sorts. The towns can be attacked, but taking them would be considered nearly impossible for anything less than a fleet of ships. Pirate Safe Haven: Port RoyalPort Royal is known for being a rambunctious town overrun with Pirates. Consequently there is little to now law, with bars and whore houses on nearly every corner. The port town always has the appearance of being dirty, with shots heard from within nearly every building. Pirates generally use this town as a place of neutral territory between feuding ships, to negotiate treaties or gather to fight against a common cause.
Privateer Safe Haven: RoanokeRoanoke is a small colony on the coast. The settlers have long since abandoned living there permanently, but it works well enough to store supplies and act as a temporary port. The land has been claimed by England, and thus the Privateers have free use of it. With the portion of their keep, they pay a small amount of people to uphold the buildings, and keep food growing there. It has stayed away from watchful eyes due to not very many people knowing about it outside of English Royalty and Privateers. Spanish Armada Safe Haven: St. AugustineSt. Augustine is essentially a fort. Known as the safe Haven from Piracy it's wall rise higher than the height of a ship. There are cannons stationed at the top of the wall, with soldiers on patrol constantly. The town inside has supplies flowing in and out of it constantly, so that the Armada never becomes low during the journeys.

Accepted Profiles Pirates Username: Strifer Garuwashi Character Name: William "The Red" Burke Age: 29 Height: 6' Weight: 160 lbs. Faction: Pirate Ship: Captain of The Red Ruby Physical Appearance: William has surprisingly dark red hair, which comes from his father being Irish and his mother being English with dark brown hair. His eyes are said to be as blue as the ocean, and against all odds his skin is tanned. William has enough muscle to be considered strong, but not enough to look bulky. He wears average brown pants, held up by a black belt with a gold buckle. A plain white shirt is worn underneath a bright red captain's coat with gold trim. His boots are made of sharks skin to prevent slipping on wet surfaces. William's cutlass sits on his left hip, while his musket pistol sits on his right hip. Weapons: William the Red carries only a cutlass and musket pistol on him, but is proficient with throwing knives, axes, and various forms of guns as well. Biography: William lived in England for a time with his mother. William was often treated as trash for being half of what is seen as a savage. The other kids beat him daily, even some of the adults did. His mother died when William was ten, which left him all alone. In a desperate attempt to get away from the life he hated he joined up for life as a sailor. When the ship he was on got ransacked by pirates, he was given a choice. Die with the ship or join the crew. It wasn't long before William became a respected member of the crew and rose up to first mate. When the old pirate captain died five years ago he left the ship to William. William has since become known as Will the Red, for his read hair and matching jacket, and his cunning. Will the Red is known to be the first pirate to disguise his ship as a merchant ship before attacking.

From with in the cabin one could feel the boat sway. With each sway came the sound of a wave that had splashed against the ship, and yielded to it's might power. The captains cabin was fairly simple compared to the rumors of what one would look like. There was a chest, which was almost over flowing with gold, but other than that almost no treasure could be seen. There were maps on nearly every wall with no two maps that looked exactly the same.
On each map there were markings, written words, clues, and longitude with latitude numbers. There was a bed off in one corner, but all it had was one lone pillow, with a plain cloth blanket. The bed itself was made of straw, just like every other bed with in the boat, which showed the captain himself had grown accustomed to the horrible feeling of the straw mat.
Finally in the center of the room there sat a desk, with a large window behind it. The desk had a feather holder, with an ink holder on the right side, made specifically to be with in the reach of the man who sat in the simple chair at the desk. He had long red hair, that was darker than most red heads, but not dark enough to seem abnormal. His quick steady hand moved a compass to make a circle on yet another map that was laid out on the desk. Though the boat around him rocked, each circle was perfect with the aid of the compass.
The man's blue eyes darted across the map, before he took the compass in his left hand, then his steady hand grabbed the feather quill, dipped it in ink, then proceeded to scratch out the longitude and latitude at the center of the to compass markings. Once this was done, he returned the quill to it's holder, only for a loud pounding knock to come at his door. The strikes were sound, solid strikes of someone with muscle. "Cap'n can I come in?" Though the knock seemed to be from that of a muscular man, the voice the poked through the door was light, and feminine.
"Aye. Come in." The Captain responded, his voice gruff, but not with anger or irritation. Though he told the person on the other side to come in, his blue eyes never stopped examining the map on his desk. The woman on the other side opened the door, then closed it behind her. She had long blonde hair that fell down to her very shapely buttocks. She wore a stolen stark white admirals jacket, with matching pants, boots, and even a sparkling admiral's sword. Even though she wore the outfit a man usually worn by a much larger man than her, it couldn't hide the other area in which she was also well endowed. Her warm brown eyes examined the captain at work as she shook her head. "Will, you really ought to let the navigator do some of that work."
Will the Red moved his bright blue eyes up to her dark brown. Though most men would be captivated by how well endowed she was, but Will seemed to no be intimidated by the familiar beauty. "The navigator is out in the merchant costume. He's one of the few on the crew that don't look like a pirate. You know that as well as I do Fiona. Now what did you come in here for?" The female First Mate let out a slight sigh, "The ship has been spotted sir. It looks exactly as you heard. The Armada isn't guarding it at all."
Will nodded, opened the top door in his desk to grab a small satchel. As he lifted the bag, it jingled with the sound of doubloons as he tossed it to her. "Prepare the cannons, and give the gold to Spotty." A small smile appeared on her face as she caught the gold. "I didn't even tell you who spotted the ship." Will the Red simply smiled in response. No one else had eyes as good as Spotty. Every time they went on a raid Will offered a reward of ten gold to the first to spot the ship, but Fargo "Spotty" Gerrard had eyes like a hawk and could spot anything far before most of the crew members, even if they had a spy glass. Fiona answered her captain's with one of her own before she walked out of the cabin. Will brought his hand back to the quill, then scribbled some more on the map. There would be more gold in the chest soon and there would be a few less men on the ship, but the merchant ship would be at the bottom of the ocean.
