Drake padded through the cool night air with a tight feeling in his chest as William's words reverberated through his head. How could he be so daft as to let Anna's hints go unnoticed? Well, they hadn't quite gone unnoticed, so to speak, but the admiral had perceived them moreso as playful teasings. He figured she was fond of his company as much as he was fond of hers. However, the pirate never fathomed that there might be something more to that...

Drake had visited Anna's pub so many times that the direction to it had been hard-wired into his head, and his paws seemed to instinctively carry him there despite him being lost in thought. His hair was still untied, and jacket loosely unbuttoned, but he found himself constantly adjusting it so that it was still casually presentable. He straightened himself as he approached her den, clearing his throat and taking a glance around the bar, hoping she was around. "Miss Anna~?"

Anna's hints had been downright smacks in the face, she fawned over Drake as if he were the second coming. She always tried to look her best for him, was always giving him free drinks, and somehow her flirtations just seemed to spill out of her mouth like air. She was worried she had been a bit too obvious, William had certainly known. Of course he had known, William was her very best friend, he knew she adored Drake. Drake was so charming, so handsome, his family was all so dear...and he didn't even notice how completely infatuated she was...how totally in love she was. Ugh LOVE, that cursed four letter word, it was so dramatic, so cliche, so inadequate to describe emotions. She took a quick sip from her flask to soothe her nerves.

Love was why she was in such a soured mood. William, her best friend, the idiot thought he loved her. Anna knew better, William just loved to flirt, but he was like a brother to her. If she had known that he had ratted out her feelings to Drake she would probably be looking to strangle him. As it was she was sad that he wasn't around to talk to, especially during chores. The Pie Shop wasn't all fun and games, she scrubbed clamshells in lemon water trying to get them all clean before it was time to open back up. She almost dropped one into the barrel when a familiar voice called her name.

She quickly set the shell down and wiped off her paws, what was Drake doing here so early? She felt her heart give a happy double skip in her chest and quickly pushed her hood back and tried to smooth her hair a bit. She re-did one of her clips and smoothed her skirt down a bit before walking out trying to look casual.

"Drake! What are you doing here so early?" She smiled and made a mental note to sound less excited. "Want some breakfast? I have some fresh fish pies baking on the hot stones, they'll be done in a bit?"

Drake couldn't help but chuckle a bit at how he seemed to catch her off guard with irregular timing. Was it morning already? He was so caught up with his thoughts that he must have lost track of time...

Goodness if that smile of hers didn't just warm him to the core. If any other female admitted their admiration to him, he would have merely been flattered. However, because he took his relation with Annakail more seriously, he never imagined he was worth her affections, and it sparked an inexplicable emotion within him the more he thought about it.

"Anna-love, you wound me." he cooed with a soft smirk, nuzzling her warmly in greeting. "Need I a reason to come see you~? Or do you assume I visit you so frequently just for a drink or something to eat?" he asked with a small pout as he leaned against the mouth of the den.

"I was sure you came by frequently because I always have a delicious new concoction for you to taste." She laughed and leaned against the top of the shops stone counter. "Your usually not about so early though, your not in trouble are you?" She gave him a teasing smirk and reached down to bring up a bottle of rum.

"I have just the ailment to all your troubles." She grinned and turned the bottle on it's side giving it a little spin. She hadn't quite noticed yet that Drake wasn't here for a drink.

"Offering me rum so early in the morning, you temptress~" he purred in amusement. Yet now would not be the time for drinking. Drake reached out and gently tapped the neck of the bottle to keep it in place. "More times than not, you've seemed to have gotten me tipsy for the sole purpose of keeping me out of trouble, love~" He fixed her with a violet, teasing look.

"My alcoholic tendencies aside, I'm not one to question the excellency behind your brews. However you could very well will me over with your sheer charm and presence alone without a single drop of ale to help. You know that, right?"

She almost felt her breathing stop when he purred and had to remind herself that Drake said and did...and made the most intriguing noises all the time. Then she was struck by an odd realization, he was stone cold sober. The otter she had so often seen at the very least a tad warmed up by alcohol didn't have the faintest whiff of it on his breath. He was quite serious and when he laid his paw on the bottle to stop it instead of grab it for a swig she felt a sudden chill in her chest. Oh...was Drake going to stop drinking? Well...that was good...good wasn't it? Of course it was, o many times had William urged HER to stop drinking, told her it was bad for her to drink so much. Except he didn't understand, he didn't see how much she would worry and fall to pieces and upset her parents and who knew what else...if she didn't drink that anxiety away.

She was getting herself so worked up, about Drake being sober, about how she might not see him anymore if he didn't come by for drinks. She felt her own paw slide into her pocket and curl around her flask. Then she looked at him downright startled and felt hr cheeks heat up as if she had been drinking liberally.

"Drake! You...you are just a flatterer...and I don't like to see you in trouble, unless I'm along to help you out of it." She grinned a bit and felt the tension ease away from her shoulders. Drake thought she was charming? It was like some sort of dream, maybe it was a dream, maybe she had fallen asleep washing clam shells. She had to holdback a laugh at the thought of waking up dunked in lemon water.

"Really Drake? Not even a single drop? I will have to try that sometime, just to be sure your not telling fibs." She would have to of course find him sober again, which put quite a damper on the idea of trying to woo him without the aid of alcohol.

"Or get me into it~" he added coyly with a mirrored grin. This short sober streak of his probably wouldn't last for very long... but he intended to keep a clear conscious for the time being in order to tell Anna what he needed to, even if that meant resisting every fiber of his being that wanted to take a swig from the bottle of rum under his paw. Alcohol was Drake's emotional crutch... it was his therapy, even if it was in a subtle manner. Ale numbed his thoughts and comforted his mind, and more times than none, he consumed it more often than water. But his habits found themselves succumbed to Anna's importance.

Drake shifted his weight onto the counter, placing himself rather close to the azure-eyed femme. "To be honest, given the wonderful concoctions you've formulated, I find it'd be virtually impossible to deny anything you'd offer me." He smirked lightly as she took his claim as mere words of flattery. "And despite the belief that the amount of alcohol in my blood would suddenly implode my system if I were to suddenly cut off from drinking, I would undoubtedly go sober for however long you wanted me to just to prove that you have the god-given gift to coax me over with nothing more than just a glance~" he uttered, leaning in to close the gap and stealing a brief kiss, allowing time to stop within that moment before he slowly pulled his head away and raised his paw to cup her chin and gently tip it up. "And that, my dear, is not a fib."

His eyes were soft as he offered her a small smile and a moment to register what happened. No coy or deviousness within it, just a genuine smile. "I must apologize, love," he murmured, "For being such a complete and utter fool..."

Anna smirked a bit at Drake's teasing words, oh if only he knew the kind of trouble she'd like to lead him into. He was incredible...handsome, witty, and caring, she had spotted him doting on his family often enough to know how good Drake was. She tried to snap out of her fanciful delusions to pay attention, he was right there so close. She felt her paw twitch a bit looking for the familiar comfort of a bottle or flask to steady her nerves. She clenched her paw against the counter instead, she didn't want this moment hazy, she didn't need the sweet burning liquid down her throat. In this moment all she really needed was to lean in a bit more to hear Drake, to gaze into those gorgeous eyes their strange shade of dark violet was captivating. She felt her cheeks heat and quickly turned her head trying to hide how his flattery went to her head.

"Oh Drake it's not as amazing as all that anyone could have done it if they just had the patience and knowledge..." Then she blinked and turned back to him, go sober? Him? For her? "Oh Drake, you silly flatterer, you know I wouldn't want to see you suffer so." Then she gasped as she felt his lips press against hers, she couldn't keep the breathy little murmur of longing from escaping and then it was over. She felt a shiver run down her spine and tried not to nuzzle against Drake's paw as he lifted her chin.

Had she let the oven get out of control? It was quite warm...hot even, she plucked at her hoodie tempted to pull it off. Oh no pulling off clothes now might give him the wrong idea...or the right one. She was stunned, completely shocked, she had no idea what to say, what to do? She couldn't just blurt out that she loved him, that she adored him, that she only followed him around and gave him drinks on the house was because his smile was like air. Oh boy...oh boy that sounded bad, that sounded like a fool...a fool in LOVE!

She jerked up as she caught half his words. "Fool? Me? You? You...oh no Drake! Not a fool...I...that was...that was quite..." She felt her paw graze her flask and gripped it tight for a moment. If anything warranted a drink didn't this moment? She firmly shoved the flask back and removed her paw. She leaned across again the bar again and smiled.

"That was...better then any drink I've ever had." She slowly smiled feeling for a moment that maybe there was hope in the world. No matter how strange and dark things seemed, maybe this was what life was about? Wouldn't it have been a pity if she had been too drunk to remember this one perfect moment?

Drake felt a sense of relief at her response. The kiss and her reaction felt as though there was a break in some unspoken tension. Like an barrier had been set aside. No game of strip poker or influence of drinking to control his actions this time, rather, for the first time in forever, he was acting on his own emotional will.
He smirked softly and shifted closely to nuzzle her cheek. The red-clad pirate noticed she had been pawing at something in her coat for awhile, possibly a flask or a bottle, but when she finally relinquished her grip, he took her paws in his.

"Actually, Anna, I have been rather daft... incompetent... oblivious... or whatever adjective you'd use to describe me." he continued with a small, short laugh. "I... before... I never really thought myself someone capable of being loved for, well, who I was. You could probably tell I haven't really done much worth living for." He smiled weakly and glanced down at his paws. Good god, how did he manage to feel so uncoordinated while sober?

"Well, before I start sounding like a sap, I just wanted to tell you... that you've been nothing but terribly wonderful to me. And while I've noticed this, it seems I haven't quite registered it the way you've intended me to... simply because I never fathomed I could ever be worth anything important to someone." The indigo depths of his eyes looked into hers as he wondered how all of this sounded. Even if it wasn't something he usually conveyed, Drake was as heartfelt as he could ever be. He didn't want to play the part of the fool anymore. He didn't want to be a lost cause in her eyes...
"Especially someone as kind-hearted and generous as you. It's... rather pitiful, I know, considering how... I think I've fallen quite hard for you after all this time without even realizing it before." He cleared his throat, tail flicking anxiously.

"If you could ever forgive me for being so blunt through all the time we've known each other... I'm sorry -- so truly, truly sorry -- for any grief I've put you through for stalling so long to finally come around to tell you that..."

She had quite a long list of reasons for loving Drake, but she had no idea how truthful, sweet, and sentimental he could be. She felt her eyes start to water a bit but firmly held back, she was not going to cry. Let every other simpering female shed tears, but she refused to sniffle at a moment like this. He was so hard on himself she wanted to pave the way for him, help him understand that perhaps together they could be better then they were alone.

"Drake...you don't need to apologize to me, I...I would have waited forever for you. I suppose it's my fault for never just coming out and telling you how I felt, but...it's hard to tell someone how you feel when you have no idea if they feel the same." She sighed softly before leaning in to nuzzle him.

"Your such a wonderful male Drake, your always there for your family, your charming and polite...even when your drunk." She gave a soft laugh and then kissed his cheek. "I know you don't think you've done much with your life, but...I think that you have all the potential in the world. You could, you could do so much...I just...want to be there with you...to help."

"Forever? How absolutely horrid of me were I to make you wait that long." he gasped in an aghast tone at the sheer thought. The pirate embraced her snugly as she leaned forward to nuzzle him and buried his muzzle in the nape of her neck. "I envy you for having such a strong soul, Anna." he murmured softly. "You know you can be honest with me, love. You've always had my complete trust... I want to know what's wrong so I can make it better."

His ear flicked and he glanced back up as blue-eyed femme remarked on some of his more better qualities. "Even when I'm drunk?" He smirked and chuckled softly. "Who's flattering who now?" Drake noted playfully, giving her a keen look when she kissed his cheek. Touching his nose to hers, he sighed airily and closed his eyes in a moment of utter bliss. "How is it that two bottle-happy characters like us have become so marvelously love sick?"
Opening his eyes, he connected with the sincerity of the sea-blue depths of her gaze as he listened to her request to be at his side to aid him. "If you allow me the same honor... then I will be yours and yours alone."

She positively reveled in how close he was it was almost like catching your breath after being under water too long. Having Drake there to hold and nuzzle, hearing his words meant everything to her. She shivered a bit when he asked her what was wrong, what hadn't been going wrong? It wasn't herself she worried for, it was her mother and father and her poor sister. If only she knew where Di was if she was alright or even alive. If only somehow she could have been the one instead...Di was...better deserved better. Di was a saint compared to her, she'd have made their parents proud.

"I just...worry about my family..." She murmured softly and then relaxed and smiled at his words. "Well you know they say you simply can't avoid it forever, it finds you." Then his eyes met hers and she felt herself caught off guard. She nodded softly and took his paw to press it against her heart. "Oh Drake I'll always be yours and theres nothing I'd want more then for you to be mine..."

Drake winced a bit. It pained him to think how distressed Anna had been over her family's situation. "They're strong, Anna. I know they are, as are you. I swear we'll get through this." he whispered, giving her a tight squeeze in assurance. He might not have had the power to directly repair the damage that had given her so much grief, but he'd help alleviate the emotional pain as much as possible and vow to protect her from there on.

He lifted his head and looked down to where she'd placed his paw over her heart, piratically melting at her words. Her touch... the way she spoke to him. How had he allowed himself to go on so long without truly noticing just how stunning Annakail was? How did he possibly fathom his heart had been reserved to solitude before? He pulled her heart to his, sealing it with a kiss, a little more passionately this time.
"What in the world have I done to deserve you?" he breathed with a soft laugh. "I must have been a saint or done something rather remarkable in my past life..."
