Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Sponsored by BBN

What Halloween Carnival is complete without some sort of Pumpkin decorating contest? In an effort to become more active in the Destiny City community, Mr. and Mrs. Wickham have sponsored a booth at the Destiny City Halloween Carnival. With the assistance of their son, Howl, they have a booth dedicated to decorating pumpkins.

With many small pumpkins set out on the tables, along with various paints, sparkle glues, and markers, there is plenty to work with. Unfortunately, there are no knives for carving, since the little ones might accidentally cut themselves.

At the end of the day, Mrs. Anastasia Wickham will judge all the entries and decide a winner. It would seem that BBN has some rather lovely prizes to offer the winners...

The Rundown

I would like to note this is not technically a game and more of an IC contest, but I am going to run it similar to a game. Thank you for bearing with me.

Rules:
1) One time a day, you may have your character enter the pumpkin decorating contest. Please simply post a RP post about your character decorating a pumpkin and supply an image of what the final result should be. This can be a google image or something you make yourself. You may only enter one time per day (regardless of how many characters you RP).

2) At the end of the day, I will roll raffle style for a winner. This is to ensure that the winner is selected fair-and-square. The cut off time is midnight every night (PST), but I reserve the right to roll the winner later the next day, since I like to sleep when I get the chance.

3) We have a winner! You may only win at this game one time, so once you have won, you cannot play any more. If you do not win, you can keep trying each day afterwards. And, instead of getting a punch card punch, you get...

A free civvie done by LizzyMoo! - ICly, it will be a gift card to a local clothing store, but OOCly it will be a civilian image of the character you entered the pumpkin decorating contest with. I had been hoping to do Halloween civvies, but due to my lack of Photoshop, I won't be able to do anything until after Halloween is already over. So, it will be a civvie of your choice.

I reserve the right to add more rules as I see fit.

Winners:

10/24: Akina Tokuwa - Bo
10/25: Kaori_luv - Lily
10/26: Iris_virus - Aitana
10/27: Holy Blasphemy - Nyasa
10/28: Melodine Cantus - Eve
10/29: yoko lorako - Ariel
10/30: brown peach - Elegancia
10/31: Zero Dream - Xavier
Special: LP - Istas

In all honesty, this was not the sort of thing Howl liked doing. He did not mind volunteering his time occasionally, but tending a booth all by himself where many messy little childen were did not seem to be his calling.

Franz would have done it, and he would have done it without any complaints. Howl occasionally had to remind himself of the many things Franz would do without complaint. His roommate would have run this booth while showing off his cheerleading moves without batting a lash.

Standing at the entrance of the booth, the teal-haired lad greeted each guest with a smile. He had his hair tied back low and had a rather eloquent hat resting upon his head with a fluffy feather hanging to the side. He carried one of his spare practice sabres from fencing, and every so often he had to brush off the cloth draped over his shoulders. It had been his mother's suggestion to wear a Musketeer outfit while tending this booth. And where as dressing up in costume was not something he did frequently, he willingly listened to his mother's request.

"Would you like to participate in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest, sponsored by BBN?" Howl made sure to smile each time he said this line. His father wouldn't have it any other way.

Bo was making his rounds at the Halloween Carnival like it was his job in life. When he had set out that morning, he hadn't even remembered that it was happening. But like most things in Bo's life, he sort of just stumbled upon it on his way out to the trail for a late-night hike. The smell of cooking food and all the people in costumes drew in the absent-minded teenager. He had spent the better part of the day eating and would need to report to the Haunted House for his Truth or Dare game with Elzo.

Until then, he had some free time.

The booth for pumpkin decorating caught his eye above the rest. At first, he thought the place might be selling pumpkin seeds, but when he spotted the pumpkins and paint and glitter, the boy couldn't keep the smile off his face. His mother owned a craft store. Pumpkin-carving was a family tradition -- no way would he miss out on it now! Granted, this wasn't precisely carving, but he had no problem trying his hand at it.

It was hard to miss the boy with the teal hair. Bo gave a little joking salute to him, sliding into an easy stance and warm smile. "Nice hate," Bo quipped, touching the brim of it. Personal space wasn't something he was terribly aware of, never had been. He rocked back and forth on his heels and said, "So, can I just..." His moved two fingers like his hand was a little person walking off.

Apparently, he thought this made his question crystal clear.

Considering there had been little children grabbing at the edges of his costume and toddlers that felt it was wonderful to play with the feather at the end of his hat, the slight touch of the edge of his hat was almost invisible.

"I assure you, sir, that you may." Howl tilted his head slightly in a nod to signal that the young man was permitted entrance.

Istas had ducked out for a quick break and found the pumpkin booth. What drew her too it quickly was the glitter paints she saw....

She squealed, "I have just the perfect idea!" She scrambled over to a table trying to find out how much it costed, maybe she could paint the pay. She wouldn't get any on her hands, she had wet towels if she got any on them. Her mother made sure of that.

"Oh... how much does it cost?" She called out to the teal haired boy. After having picked up and inspected the paints on the table. She knew what she was going to do. She waved at Bo who she'd seen earlier.

Genevieve was beside herself with giddyness. This was the first time her parents had let her go anywhere without them in the past year -and- they'd given her $100 dollars to with as she would. MONEY. Money did not just grow on trees. Not for her anyway. Giggling, candy apple in one hand and a funnel cake stuffed in her mouth, she stopped as her eye was caught by the rows of glitter glue.

Glitter. Glue.

If there was one thing Vivi was known for it was for her love of "the arts". Anything she could style to make her own. Nearly dropping her food(but being oh so careful not to) she practically rushed the booth.

Anybody in her way be damned. Vivi was gonna win this. She just wasn't sure with what yet.

Leaning down slightly so his eyes were about the level of the child who had approached, the musketeer replied "These pumpkins are donated, so they are free to decorate, but you can only do one per day. If you decorate it especially nice, young Miss, then you can possibly win a nice prize too." His parents really were going out of their way to leave a good first impression with the city, even if they didn't live there.

The teal-haired boy had given him the go ahead, and Bo was off. He trailed a hand over the table as he searched for the perfect pumpkin. Here and there, he would lifted one, turn it over it his hand. Once, he sniffed at one before wrinkling his nose and putting it back. His eyes picked up on the little girl from the duck booth from earlier. Bo lifted a hand and waved to her, a smile peeking up on his lips. Oh good, they let them out. That was nice of them. Bo couldn't imagine going to a carnival and working at all, not even when he was her age.

Another girl approached. Bo smiled at her too, and then moved to survey more pumpkins. He had no idea that there was a prize involved. He just wanted to make the most bitchin' pumpkin that Destiny City had seen in ages.

After plenty of pumpkin molestation, Bo selected one of the larger ones and took a seat in front of it. There were craft products galore and paper for sketching, too. Bo wasn't big on planning. He tapped two fingers on the pumpkin and simply waited for inspiration to strike.

A smile was thrown her way, and Viv accepted it with a waggle of her fingers and a smile of her own. As much as she could with food in her mouth. Of course someone was noticing her- How could they not notice her? She was amazing and she knew it.

... But she wasn't conceited much, no.

Poking gently at every pumpkin on the table she found the firmest one she could, it wasn't big but it wouldn't turn to mush if she held it too forcefully in her eagerness. With that she also planted herself down and got to work. As with everything she did, there was very careful thought going into her new project. Doodling several themes on a single piece of paper she frowned at her finished sketches. How on earth was she going to choose just one?

Istas smiled, "Oh that's awesome!" She said when she found out they were free to decorate, even if it was just one a night it was better than not being able to do any at all.

Winning a prize sounded interesting as well. She wondered what the prize would be as she moved over to grab a pumpkin. Unlike the others she didn't poke or prod she stood and watched them for a second until she found the one she wanted and picked it up carrying it over to the table. She grabbed a thing of glitter paint and a brush she was going to be careful in doing this one and try to make it as pretty as possible.

So she set to work on the pumpkin applying paint to certain areas here and there. Istas didn't really doodle plans often, it wasn't always in the girl's best interest.

Bo peeked across the table at the girl who was fast at work on her pumpkin. Well, at least more at work than he was. He grabbed some white paint and some blue paint and then did some more staring at the pumpkin. "What are you thinking about?" he said, pointing at her pumpkin with the end of his paintbrush.

Charming, as always?

He noted that the little girl from the duck pond had taken a seat too. "What about you, small fry? You gonna channel your duck energies and turn that into a pond scene?" It was possible that this comment made no sense to the older girl at the table. Bo didn't seem to take notice. He wasn't the most observant creature in the world.

Without even a breath, in the span of a second, Genevieve was answering the boy. "I'm thinking Marie Antoinette at the Cirque! Grand, flamboyant, girly, and all sparkles." Smiling proudly she set her sketches aside and picked up the pinkest of pink paints she could find and a thin brush. "All girl but minimalistic, y'know? I want it to say 'Look at me! I am pumpkin royalty!'"

Concentrating, brows furrowed as she worked, Vivi went to work painting lines like a circus tent down the natural lines of the squash before her. "I'm Vivi. Genevieve is my given name but no one calls me that, much too dramatic for the every day but when I'm famous that's what everyone will know me as. 'Genevive takes home five oscars!' and all that. What is your name? I saw you smile at me."

Peering over at the younger girl working furiously on her own entry, Viv smiled and addressed her as well. "You are so adorable! I bet it'll come down to the line between our pumpkins. Girl power!"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:53 pm

Bo didn't precisely understand what the girl was saying, but he definitely appreciated her enthusiasm. He fed off of it like a drug, grinning wider and twirling his paintbrush between his fingers. "A minimalistic Marie sounds awesome," he said. But Bo thought most things sounded awesome. Upon first meeting him, it might be complimentary, but in time, his friends came to realize that he handed compliments out like breaths of air, making them less and less special over time.

Oh god, more talking. It only got better. Bo really liked her. He liked everything about what she said: the overconfidence, the blatant joy, the whimsical turn of phrase. "Well, you're pretty, so I smiled," he said without a hint of awkwardness. "I'm Bodhi, but everyone calls me Bo. I like taking pictures. I could do your headshots." At home, Bo had a wall of photos of people he had shot. It didn't take much for him to feel inspired to add someone to that collage.

Istas paused listening to the girl and the boy and when she was addressed she seemed to think. "Well.... I don't know about a pond scene.... that might be a little much on a pumpkin." She said with a frown looking back at the pumpkin.

She enjoyed painting she'd have to turn into something a little more spectacular of course. She smiled at the girl when she said it might come down to them two. "Thank you, I wish you the best of luck too!" She smiled, "Vivi?" She said, "I ... don't think I can say your full name." She said with another soft frown. "And Bod-hi?" She prounced it funny and looked at him her head tilted, "I think Bo works better too." She chuckled.

"I'm Istas, or Lulu if you can't say that." She then crept back into her painting listening to see if they addressed her again, humming a song she'd just recently heard on a cartoon.
