The large lioness had recently found herself wondering into these parts, where she had been informed she was in a pride's territory. Lucky for Sha, she managed to stumble into the pride she had been looking for, and she could only thank the gods for their guidance. After her indoctrination into the pride, she was told she would need to join the little ones in their classes in order to learn what the pride entailed, and the beliefs and practice behind it. This pleased Sha to en extent, as her first few weeks in the pride would be spent amongst the little ones where she could easily shrink out of the way if need be, unlike with adults who seemed to like to always pry into others business.

She trotted her way at a slow but steady pace to the classes she was instructed to take. She hoped that they would both last forever and go quickly. She was eager to serve out any duties she had, and to take comfort in the fact she would no longer fear for her life all alone. She was protected now, and for that she held the utmost gratefulness for.

Carnelian was a very serious boy, and he always arrived to his classes long before any of the others did. He wanted to be a Scribe just like his mama, but not with gems. Carnelian wanted to study flowers, and only flowers; that was why these classes were so important to him. The sooner he could be off on his own, the better.

It wasn't that the classes bored the lion cub, it was just that he much preferred to be out in the open, finding all the flowers that he could so that he might study them, and perhaps even educate others on their properties. Some could be used for healing, some for poison, and some had other purposes that Carnelian wanted to explore. He made his Mama proud, even at his young age; his dedication to his craft was surprisingly strong, and it was likely he would grow up to be just like Gella; obsessed by his work, and keen on chatting to others about his love of flowers.

So there he sat, alert and intent, all alone and quite early for his classes.

On her way inside, Sha had almost passed by the little cub without even noticing he was there. Having lived on her own for so long, she managed to learn how to ignore many things, especially the other small animals who were possibly attempting to tag along with her for food purpose. She didn't mind if they picked at her kills, so long as they didn't interrupt her silence or her routine. She didn't like the unexpected side that strangers brought.

However, now that she was in a new pride and assimilating into a new way of life, it was imperative that she make connections. There was no use in living with a grouping of people when one was always alone. That did mean it wasn't hard for Sha, and that breaking from the timid reservation that was her personality was going to be a piece of cake.

Back-tracking a few steps, Sha approached the little cub who she knew she would be taking classes with. The majority of the children were taught together, as well as the entering adults. Trying her best to crack a small smile onto her face, Sha said hello, her soft, airy voice betraying the large powered body she posessed.

"Good morning," She said quietly, "I am Sha-emhlabeni. We're going to have class together..."

Carnelian shot a glance at the older female, his eyes growing a bit wide at the sight of the large female. She was intimidating despite her soft voice, but Carnelian wasn't exactly afraid of her. He knew that no terrible, harmful lions would be allowed to live on the pridelands, and so he merely gave her a curt little nod and a polite, "Hello. I am Carnelian, son of Scribe Gella and Guard Bufonidae, but mama calls him Toad. I call him papa." It was how he greeted every newcomer to the pride. He loved his papa like any good son would, but it was Gella he idolized. She was so dedicated to her job and yet was still a good mama.

"You are new?"

"Mnhmn. Yes," Sha answered, dipping her head in unison to the answer she offered the young cub. He seemed so confident in himself as he spoke and it was rather heartwarming to hear. Sha never remembered ever being able to mimic such confidence, even on her own she would second guess her own capabilities and lose herself a meal on occasion.

"I came here only a few days ago," She explained, a pause after every few words as if she thought while she spoke. It was something that she naturally adopted. It was a much more pleasing tone to her mother, who rarely wanted her to be spoken to be Sha anyway. At least whatever she did need to say would be listened to for a brief moment when she spoke like this.

"How long have you been in class, Carnelian?" She asked, hoping that if she made a friend out of a young one, they'd help her understand what she herself could not on her own.

Carnelian shrugged, "About a week, I guess. I hope I can stop coming soon, mama says it shouldn't be much longer." He peered at her out of the corner of his eye, watching her carefully. She seemed nice enough, and for that he was glad. It wasn't easy for the little cub to make friends. He'd much rather be out alone, sniffing flowers, picking flowers, and mixing flowers to see what would happen.

"What will you do in the pride?" he asked softly, interested in her answer. She would have to do something, he reasoned to himself. Everyone had a job they were responsible for.

"I heal the wounded and the sick," Sha answered, pulling around a pouch that had been sitting on her back as she approached. It looked a tad heavy, and to Sha it was a tad heavy. She had collected so many herbs on her journey and had yet to use all in which she collected. At the very least she would be well prepared when they needed her services.

"I use the plants the gods have given to make people feel better." She explained, bringing out a sweet smelling plant and showing it to Carnelian, "This reduces fever."

It was nice for Sha to speak with someone at length, regardless of how young they were. Conversations never came easy to her and so, to be able to explain what she did was a big step towards future conversations that did not revolve around her profession.

"What do you wish to become when you are grown?" She asked, curiously.

She knew about healing plants! That was so neat, and Carnelian's golden eyes widened. His big thing might be flowers, but he did love plants as well, especially fragrant ones. Sometimes, when mixed with certain flowers, the plants had a different effect than they would if they hadn't been mixed with flowers!

"I thought I might like to study rocks, like my mom," he mumbled, gazing longingly at her pouch. He wanted one, too. "But I really like flowers more, and bugs." Yes, bugs, another hidden passion of his. "Where did you get that pouch?"

"Rocks?" Sha asked, her head quirking to the side slightly. Sha had never heard of studying rocks before, but she knew that some mystics used rocks in order to contact the gods or the spirits in order to get answers to their questions.

"Flowers and bugs can be used for healing as well," Sha said with another small smile. She chuckled quietly, "It's hard to keep them in the pouch or find them, so I don't use them frequently."

"Oh," Sha said, touching her pouch, "This I found many years back. By two-legged creatures and their dens. It was very frightening."

Carnelian's eyes grew even wider, if that was even possible. "Two-legged creatures? I never heard of..." his words faltered. He wanted to know more, but he didn't want to pry. It wasn't in his nature, and part of him was a little wary. "Gems, mama loves gemstones. S'why my name is Carnelian. I got a sister named Hiimatayt, Girasol, Fususi... tell me more about two-legged creatures," the cub blurted, almost as if unable to control himself.

She had his complete attention, his rapt gaze locked on her large form.

Sha seemed to find it pleasing how Carnelian's mother had named them, but her pleasure turned into quick and sudden apprehension when the young cub asked her about the two-legged creatures. She looked away, than back, than around, before looking back at him and flexing her paw against the ground nervously.

"I don't like talking of them. To speak of them will bring them," She said quietly, "They are monsters, who took a sister of mine."

That was all she said before she looked away from him one more, attempting to change the subject from the horrid creatures, "Your mother sounds fascinating. You must be proud to have a mother who is so smart."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2010 1:51 pm

Carnelian's eyes would've popped right out of his skull if they hadn't been... well, attached to his head. "They... they stole your sister?" he squeaked, pupils darkening his eyes til they were nearly black. He was obviously terrified, and clearly appreciated the change of topic. There were more questions he wanted to ask, but he refrained simply because if they'd stolen one of Sha's sisters, what would stop them from stealing one of his OWN sisters?!

"Mymamais--" he paused, recomposing himself before continuing. "My mama is a wonderful lioness. She's very smart. I want to be just like her." Once more that golden gaze moved back to the pouch that Sha carried. "Wonder where I can get one'a them."

"Hmmn? This?" Sha murmured, poking at the pouch around her neck. "I took this from my mother..."

Well, that sounded kind of bad when she thought about it. It was true, and she did take the pouch from her mother, but it wasn't like she was this evil being who robbed her mother blind or anything like that. Her mother didn't particularly like her, while she loved her mother unconditionally. When she decided to leave, she took the pouch as a reminder of her mother. It was also a reminder to her to not end up like her mother, who while a good provider was an incredibly horrible mother.

"It was, uhm, a parting gift of sorts," She said, trying to shift the focus of how she acquired the pouch. "I'm not sure how she got it, really... She had always had it with her."

"I like it," he commented quickly, turning those bright eyes to hers. "Class should be starting soon," he continued, blinking at her slowly as a few other pridemembers joined them. He would have to find a way to get a pouch like that -- it would take some mulling over. He wondered briefly if his papa knew how to make one. Maybe someone else in the pride did.

This lioness was nice and she seemed pretty smart. Carnelian was starting to feel like all females knew best when it came to certain things. His mother certainly was probably the smartest lioness he'd ever met, and now after meeting Sha, he was doubly convinced of this.

"It seems so. We should join them," Sha replied, stretching out a slight bit before deciding that it would be best to join the others who were beginning to gather. It seemed like the majority of her classmates were little ones. At least they were easier to talk to than adults.

"I wonder what we will learn today," Sha said quietly to Carnelian as she made her way to join the rest of the class. Perhaps something about the gods, or even customs of the pride. She was anxious to learn about her new home so she could blend in well to it.
