So my husband is Agnositc, or that's what I would call him, but he does not specifically believe in a god or gods. We've had many discussions and he seems to be Agnostic or Spiritual.

Last night we were talking about spirits and ghosts that we have seen. Then he got to his wolf. He said it is a huge black wolf with orangish yellow eyes that just stands there and stares at him. His cousin has seen it with him and when he was at boot camp other people have seen it with him. He said he's seen it like 10 times! And it's always staring at him! Comming from someone who is not religious, but believes in spirits and demons, that truly makes me wonder what that wolf is. He also said that he only sees it in thick woods. After the night is over he has gone to where he saw the creature and he said there were no footprints, but the bushes and foilage had been matted and disturbed by something big. He said he has never been completely alone with it so we can not guess if it is there to guard him or urt him, but after 22 years he is still fine after multiple sightings. So my guess is that it is some sort of spirit guardian. I have heard of spirit guardians, but I have never heard of anyone actually seeing one. And the fact that there were no footprints, but the undergrowth was disturbed leads me to believe this is something that can manifest when it wants. Plus, he has seen it in the Appalachian mountain on camping trips, at his house in MD, then boot in SC, so it can travel.

I asked about the position of the wolf. He said he has never seen its teeth and its tail is in a rather neutral position. I forgot to ask about the ears, but I would imagine they are alert. So I explained a little about wolf behavior and what the tail can tell you.

He also asked if it could have been some sort of reflection. I said there is a possibility, but if he is seeing a huge black wolf I really do not think it is reflections.

So... Now that I have that all layed out what are your thoughts?

Have you heard of something like this? Seen one yourself? Know someone who has?

Any information would be great. I think both of us would love to know more about what he has seen. And I don't want to have to go on a wolf hunt when my husband does not come back from his next training. He gets the to the thing like in G.I. Jane, where they try to avoid capture and when they are they are tortured, broken fingers, drowned... Sounds fun... Don't need a wolf in the mix...

I think it is rather safe to say that your husband is seeing a spirit animal. Whether it is a spirit guide or a spirit guardian depends both upon the instances in which your husband saw the animal and the belief system utilized to describe it. It does not matter if you are Agnostic or have a regular religion, as spirit animals are neutral as far as belief systems go. How they are described, and their utilization depends upon which belief system you are associated with.

Being native american, I have a strong affiliation with spirit animals and guides. but i do not believe that everyone has one. That is a New Age belief.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks. I have heard of spirit animals, but it is good to have opinions and knowledge from someone who knows more. I will probably have more questions so thanks again.

I have always wished to have a spirit guide, but I know if I have one, it would have shown itself. I have been outside in the dark a lot. And of course during the day. But I have not seen anything. If this wolf is truly my husband's that is amazing. Would the spirit protect just him or his loved ones also? I want to see it, but I was so scared when he wasjust talking about it.

it realy depends. some will only protect their chosen or assigned charge, others will protect the interests of that charge. still, others will actively follow orders. it is often taken to be a good sign if the one being Guarded can Command or work with the Spirit in question. that is what Shamanism is about.

I suggest your Husband actively Commune with the Ghost-Wolf, and appease it. if he can make a strong Bond, he can earn a useful servant in the process.

I told him he should try to talk to it. He gave me a look like I was crazy. =^_^= I gurantee he will see the wolf again on that training/torture thing. I'll tell him to talk to it. See if it is a he or she and if it has a name. I really hate the word "it" when applied to something that does have a gender...

aye, I agree... it just feels wrong, like you are reffering to him/her as an item, not a Being.

I agree that bonding will bring the spirit animal closer to the person they are hanging around, but if the animal is just there to protect or guard, it may not come any closer than it has.

I call my SGs and SA by name when I am speaking to them. However when I am talking about them I use general terms.

He doesn't know its name... And I'm not sure how close it has actually come.

If he doesn't talk to it, he will never know its name. That he shared with you the spirit wolf's existance means he is toying with finding out what it really is, and why it is with him. But he will not know unless he talks with it and in some manner appeases it. (Nothing drastic in the appeasing.) As to how close it has come, it has come close enough that he can describe it in great detail, though he doesn't say it out loud. I wonder if it has come close enough to sniff his hand. ..?

Uh... Not to put a damper on things but I hope that's not the Black Dog. The description the OP gives of this creature sounds like the Black Dog.

Are you talking about the pad foot?

I don't see how they are similar, other than color.

I really think he does want to know more about it. But he won't really talk about it now. But I have been asking when his eyes are glued to the TV... I just need to ask when it's just us. And I told him to talk to it before I even posted this thread. He isn't good at talking to me so he would have no clue what to ask or say. It would be really neat to go camping with him and see it so I could help. I would be so scared though.

bad wording on my part. I meant I relooked at the descriptions given of Padfoot. Eponishta was right, I was jumping the gun.
