Asali was a wanderer, and had been most of his life. He remembered everywhere he went, through scents and sights and w hat he had eaten and what ladies he had met. He knew where lions grouped in their prides, and where to find packs of wild dogs and hyenas, and where cheetahs had their races. He knew which areas to avoid, because anyone as small as him would be considered a target or a slave, and he knew where a traveler with new stories might be welcome to sleep in the warmth of a den. This area, however, Asali had never been in before. He had crossed a fallen tree halfway over a stream, swam the rest, and then dragged his sopping wet body back onto the shore. He made a quick meal of a snake, sniffed for a few minutes, and picked out his direction: there was a male lion somewhere around here, and he liked to get a look at the bigger locals before he just waltzed through their territory.

[Sorry, no cert for him just yet.]
Yet again, the large lion had journeyed into a new land. Not like he minded, it was new scenery and the possibility of meeting new faces. In fact, he had been accustomed to it since he was a juvenile, being exiled from his pride. So, since that day, he was on his own and looking for his own place to call home. This quest had led him to another new piece of land, this time by a stream. Searching for water wouldn't be so hard this time around. Not really the one to care too much about his surroundings, he was not sure if he had stumbled along a pride's territory or not. He was also oblivious to the fact that a small creature seemed to be on his trail as well.

Asali sniffed along behind the big lion for a few minutes, studying him. He sure was strange looking. It looked like he was covered in scales. He had met a lot of lions, but never one covered in scales before. Asali breathed deeply to get a better picture of the area. This male was the only lion he smelled anywhere nearby. He wasn't even picking up recent scents of other lions off of this one's coat. Obviously solitary, just like him. He didn't expect that to make them bonded brothers or anything, but it was nice to get a clear picture of someone before you tried to talk to them. Plus if this guy knew anything about the lay of the land, Asali could always use a forwarning.
He sped up so he was just behind the lion, then beside him, and started to talk. He had a surprisingly deep voice for a little creature. "Good afternoon, lion. How is your day?"

Unaware he was being tailed, in sorts, Bongani decided to walk a bit longer before finding a place to just rest. He wasn't really hungry, so a long and exhausting hunt was far from his thoughts. The chances of him catching anything was rare anyways. Right now, his priority was to get out of the sun. His large paws padded against the ground softly for a bit longer before the large lion realized that he wasn't alone. His ears flicked backwards when he heard something small rustling behind him, soon, followed by a voice greeting him. Stopping, he looked down in the direction the voice came from and saw an odd, small creature. With a deep, gentle voice of his own and even tone, he replied. "Good afternoon. My day was fair. How about your own?"

"Not bad at all. Looking around some new places."
There were some smaller creatures that were afraid of the big guys. Asali wasn't. But this guy didn't seem very aggressive, or bothered by him. That was good. It was easier to get buy when you weren't scrapping all of the time.
"Do you know the area, yourself?"

"That is good to hear." He replied simply.
The lion didn't seem surprised at the fact that the little creature did not appear afraid of him. Then again, he did not seem to show any sort of emotion. Also, he wasn't hungry, so the creature was still safe. Bongani just sat down and looked down to the other, tail wrapping around around his paws. At the question, he shook his head slightly. "I'm afraid not. This is my first time venturing to these lands. I am sorry."

"Nothing to be sorry about; I was just wondering. I like to know a little about where I am and where I am going. It helps to make the acquaintance of locals, if there are any."
Asali kept sniffing. "This place seems pretty deserted. You're the only big fellow I've seen around, and barely any one else either. It's strange for a place so near water to be so empty."

Bongani shrugged just slightly, "I tend not to stay for long, so I do not really take much notes of the surroundings. The only thing I mainly pay attention are for any locals and if they may or may not allow me some reprieve, even if it was only temporary." The large lion explained, laying down so he was on more level ground with the small creature, so to speak. When Asali mentioned the land being deserted, he glanced around. "Hmmm... it is possible that there are residence, it is just that they might have not passed this way for some time."

"Maybe. Still strange though." Asali debated on asking after his scales, until his curiousity overcame him. "Do the scales hurt? I didn't think lions grew scales, only lizards and crocodiles and snakes."

Bongali just nodded, looking around before rolling his shoulders, relaxing them from his long walk. His black scales lifted and parted slightly as they shifted from the muscles moving under them. When he was questioned about his scales, he looked to them briefly. "I am afraid that is a question best asked to my mother. I often do not feel my scales until they are brushed against something." He commented, looking back to Asali and adding, "I honestly do not know where I got my scales, I just know that I had them since birth."

"I suppose it's the same way with fur, you don't notice it until something bugs or it's sticky with something." He decided it would be best not to make a big deal of the scales. He was sure that their were weirder lions out there. Somewhere.
Just then he saw a bee. Bees meant honey. Somewhere close. Quite suddenly, Asali shot ahead of the larger creature, headed for a split branch with several bees buzzing to and from it.
Asali Kuwinda would recognize the smell of honey anywhere. He dove, headfirst, into the split limb and into the beehive.

He nodded, though he mostly had hinderances with his scales rather than the fur that graced the rest of his body. "Indeed. Fur does often get snagged and clumped as well." He answered. His tail flicked lightly before curling around his feet, lifting one paw to lick at it idly. He had been traveling far this day, so this meeting was warmly welcomed, though it didn't appear so from the large feline.
When the little creature suddenly took off, he tilted his head slightly. He watched as Asali ran toward a branch. Curious, he stood up and followed after the rattel slowly, wondering what had caught his attention. Getting closer, he spotted the bees, followed by Asali pushing his face into the hive. It was because of this that he stopped a good distance away, not wanting to be stung by angry bees trying to protect their hive.

Asali spent several long minutes in the hive, eating both bee larvae and honey while the insects swarmed him ineffectually. Once he was full, he returned to the scaled lion.
"Sorry about the interruption," he said, licking his muzzle clean and not appearing to notice the few bees still trailing angrily after him. "It's no good to see that much honey go to waste on bees."

Bongani groomed the fur around his neck as the smaller creature fed himself from the hive. Hearing rustling, he looked up to see the other returning back to him, apologizing for the break. He shook his head. "Do not be, everyone needs to eat and should take the chance whenever the opportunity arirses." He replied with a small flick of his tail. He had noticed the angered bees following him, but he did not really worry. He knew that he did not upset them, so they should not bother him... besides, his scales protected him mostly from stings.

"Yes," Asali continued to ignore the stings until the bees finally realized that this ratel wasn't worth it and decided it was time to leave. "It's been nice talking to you," he said finally. "But I expect it's time for me to get moving again."
