when Love cast me out

So my husband said a really long time ago that he wanted me to be a gamer chick (I think mostly so that I wouldn't mind him playing video games). Fable 2 was the first game I found that I could play (which would explain why I love it so much), but I still didn't consider myself a gamer chick.

Now I play a few games on various systems, and I tried Fallout 3 for the first time, and I can play it! I was always scared that if I played a shooter game I would fail epically. But I am doing a decent job of holding my own.

So it made me wonder: When does a female become a gamer chick? What makes you qualify? Do you think I've joined the ranks yet, or do I still have a ways to go?

Personally I think that being a gamer chick is just a girl that enjoys playing video games. Gamers in general have different levels of commitment to video games. I think if you enjoy video games you're a gamer chick.

qft.

though there seems to be two definitions of a girl that plays games.

theres the gamer girl, and the gamer gurl.
the latter is something to avoid, and instant mute if you encounter one.

tbh if you're just a girl who likes to play games, you are by proxy a gamer girl i guess :q

As a dude, I wouldn't know.

But as a dude who is friends with gamer chicks IRL, I gotta say it's probably the moment you tell a kid to "SUCK IT b***h!" in Halo multiplayer and then t-bag the corpse (also works with other multyplaer FPS games)

You're either a gamer or you're not. Being a gamer goes far beyond simply playing and enjoying games. It goes way past having a console or two and a few games lying around. In order to be considered a gamer, a REAL gamer, you should meet the following criteria.

1. Have spent at least $1000+ on video games, consoles, etc. within a year (not every year, just once).

2. Have pre-ordered a Limited Edition game just to have something extra even if it's as simple as a new weapon.

3. You've gone to the store as soon as it opened or waited outside until it did just to pick up said pre-order.

4. You've played at least one of the original Mario games and know his theme by heart.

5. You're open to ALL genres of games, not just RPGs & FPS's.

6. You've told a video game joke and/or heard one and laughed so hard you nearly (or did) wet yourself.

7. You know who Link is.

8. You have some video game memorabilia.

9. You don't suck at video games.

10. Your hatred for Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, etc. is matched only by your love for pwning n00bz.

That's pretty much it. I was trying to be lenient but that's hard when too many of those casuals/mainstreamers try to call themselves gamers.

What about midnight launches?

I don't think I've ever spent 1k on games in a yeah. (I don't think), mainly because I haven't had the cash to do so.

Then again, subscription fees to WoW, expansions, among other game purchases.

-cough-
Eh, probably still only go no higher than $600, I suspect. Maybe.

And hey, hey, hey.
DDR is good exercise, man.

Oh, gosh. What makes a gamer (chick), eh...

Well, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 are good starts. And I'm the same way on shooters--even on Fallout 3. If a Ghoul's charging my a**, and I have a gun, I'll probably shoot wildly at it and hope it dies before it hits me. I hate it when you're dealing with enemies that rush you! Unless I'm using a melee weapon--then I'm all "MEET THEM HEAD ON! CHAAAAAAAAAARGE!"

I think gamers in general just enjoy video games. I'd been around since the NES era. Went to SNES, then N64, Gamecube, and finally Xbox 360. Not to mention GB, GBA, and DS along the way. But the time I spent isn't anything special--I just enjoyed what I had. I fell in love with the music and battle system of TWEWY, the depraved and horrifying Vaults of Fallout 3, the... hell, practically everything about Super Mario RPG...

Even games I hated with a passion had something to offer. I don't know about you, but I for one despised Star Ocean 3 with a passion. Yet it had one of my favorite all-time plot twists--We're actually PCs, and our universe is the setting for a MASSIVE MMORPG! ...I actually kind of buy this theory, crazy though that may be. I hated the difficulty curve, the rest of the plot, most of the characters (with Albel and Nel being the exceptions). But I could still appreciate the plot twist.

So tl-dr; Can you appreciate games both for their playability AND as an art form? If you said "yes" to both of these questions, that's good enough for me. Even though that's probably not how I worded it early on. sweatdrop

Glad you enjoyed the anecdote to my life....

anyhow, as a side note on the matter of Fallout, I think the most thrilling way to play 3 and new vegas is as an Unarmed Specialist. Go all "Fist of the Northstar" on the enemies. The first time I fought a deathclaw with nothing but a pair of spiked knuckles, I paused the game after victory and made myself a feast in celebration of my victory.

Just a side note, that's all.

Ooh! I went Unarmed one time! But every time I went to finish them in VATS, I pictured THIS and always yelled out, "FALCUUUUUN... PUUUUUUUUNCH!!"

And as they died, I'd always shout out "WUUUUUUAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH...!"

But a Deathclaw? Damn, how'd you do it? My greatest unarmed victory was on a Fire Ant Warrior, but a Deathclaw? Did you use the Dart Gun, or did you literally play Punch-Out with it, no holds barred? If you didn't use any Stimpaks, I will be impressed. :O

For starters, I had a Endurance of 10 in my S.P.E.C.I.A.L.S, all three ranks of the life giver perk, and an unarmed skill of 100. Also, my spiked knuckles were at a mint level. I was level 23 at this point. I also had the "Paralyzing Palm" perk, and all ranks of the "Iron Fist" perk. The death claw brought me down to two little bars/notches/thingies of health left. The spiked knuckles were broken halfway through the fight. I paralyzed it twice during the fight. It. Was. Awesome.

when Love cast me out

I had a moment today where I killed a super mutant and it exploded and there was much yelling and a bit of a happy dance.

Hmm... as far as the big list... As of Tues I will have covered most of them, except for being good. I'm awesome at Fable, and can play through the whole thing and never get close to dying, and I'm getting okay with Fallout, but if I try to play Reach, it's bad. Really bad. If I played on multiplayer, I would be the one you would be yelling at.

But I just got home from work, and my husband says (without me asking), "When I finish this match (reach), you can play fallout." Which was soon followed by, "Come get your bunny he's destroying everything!"

Anyone get really big adrenaline rushes when something happens like you're attacked by a group of raiders, and after you kill them all, you have to pause and calm down? Especially if they surprise you.

Oh, I played that Star Wars game on 360 awhile ago and was okay at it for the first 3 or 4 levels... The one where you're vader's apprentice.... I got to a point where I wasn't good enough to continue, but was still happy to get to that point.

You're thinking of "The Force Unleashed". The sequel comes out the same day as Fable III, if you're interested in that little fact.

The only time I felt a need to take a break was when Liberty Prime was destroyed. I freaking loved that robot.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to die in Fable.
Just saying.

I did it twice in the original fable. I was short on gold and sold all my resurrection phials and when I dealt with Minions for the first time I got killed. Also, during the escort mission where you have to save Timmy, or Tommy, or Billy, or what ever that idiot kid's name was from the hobbe cave and the sprite that was inside.

I will admit that Hobbe cave was a pain in the a**.
