I Sukiyaki I i just do buy low sell high... about an artificial inflation is not really good but sometimes can be crushed by someone price talk2hand Ex: someone buys all of the Nitemare Sashes except the last one that's 800k. I dump all of mine on the mp for 700k. I get undercut. The person that undercuts me gets undercut. etc etc. So, just don't bother with AI'ing items as its really a waste of time and annoying. That's my point of view on this.

It's a waste of gold. People don't seem to grasp the idea that in order for an AI to be successful you need to have a monopoly (most or all of x item) over said item. It is impossible to determine exactly how many of any item is on the site and impossible to determine if you really have a monopoly on that item. There are just too many people on the site that have multiples of an item and once they see that the item that you have attempted to AI and that the price has sky rocketed they're going to dump their items causing the price to drop again.
I also think it causes an unfair disadvantage to those who don't have a lot of gold and are questing. I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be to be only a few k away from my item only to watch it be AI'd by some idiot.
The point of investing/vending on Gaia is for fun and to earn gold. While in some cases AIing can yield gold it's considered a dishonorable way to earn gold you're basically manipulating the market to benefit yourself only. You're not taking advantage of the natural ups and downs of the market.

I'm with Cryptex: it's a waste of time and doesn't work.
The simple truth is that it doesn't matter how much gold you have, the rest of Gaia has more items than you have gold. So no matter how much you buy up to keep the price up, you will eventually run out because all the rest of Gaia can keep undercutting you(*). It may take time, but you will lose.
(*)Yes, there are exceptions like the red devil mini wings and some 03s, but that's not inflation, that's supply and demand.

I think I accidentally mini-inflated Prince of Thieves a few weeks back after buying around six for my avatar. They were at around 800k and I managed to buy several at that price. Since then they've risen to a peak of 1050k and are now at 914k. It's not much of an inflation but still earned me a decent profit. The supply-and-demand factor seems to have kept the price stable for the moment.
So I think artificial inflation really isn't a given on whether it'll work or not. I think the thing is with some items is their possession value. Some items are kept for longer periods of time than others which makes for less undercutting. For example, Hyde's Bloodlust and Jekyll's Morality. They're pretty decent items for avatars so as such are held onto for a longer period of time. However, handheld items such as the Ancient Katana are sold frequently because there isn't much you could do with them. With this, however, I'm talking more about the casual gaia user. Of course with investors and vendors it would be different.
Basically, AI's of popular, high volume items don't necessarily work, though there are some sleeper items out there in which it might.

Their gold is as good as anyone else's. If you see AI in action and you happen to *already own* the item being AI'd, you can indeed make a quick short term profit on it by selling it then. Just don't plan on that being the normal price they're going to be sold at, because the price will drop back. But taking advantage of a temporary situation is not the same as successful AI.
