Hours crept passed her. The afternoon sun bleaching the covers of the books that stood closest to the windows. They were now pale, gilded versions of themselves. The sunlight warmed the paper and ink inside the covers, so that the smell of unread words hung in the air and lingered. It was autumn. The chilled weather warned that winter was approaching, just over the horizon. But the sun still was warm and bright. Zoey continued to sit upon her stool, a novel in her hands. Her eyes scanned over the pages, each word embedded in her mind. The sneasel loved this. Working here in the bookstore. Surrounded by books, just waiting to be discovered and read. Zoey enjoyed working here. It was a good job, however, the pay was a bit low.xxxxxA content smile lined her lips as she continued to read. She felt comfortable. Especially in her navy blue sweater, red skinny jeans, and navy blue converse. Her midnight blue hair hung over her crimson eyes, behind the large, gilded glasses that were almost as large as her cute, childish face. Zoey was twenty. However, she appeared to be thirteen or so. It has gotten to be annoying, being mistaken for a child rather than a college student at the University.xxxxxAs Zoey continued to read, until the door opened with a small ding. A stifling rush of cold air entered through the door, as well as two adults. A man and a woman. Zoey's hands lowered the novel slightly, her eyes peeking over the pages to see who had entered the bookstore. There was a couple. A man and a woman. Their hands linked together. They looked to be in their mid twenties. The woman was beautiful. Her features were exquisite and perfect. She had delicate cheekbones, which were framed by her glistening golden locks. Her stomach was round and appeared heavy. Pregnant. The man at her side was attractive as well. He had shaggy brown hair, Mopey and hanging in his face. He was well built and slightly muscular, as well as a bit skinny. Zoey noticed a golden band around their ring fingers upon their left hand. The woman's had a single diamond. Married and Pregnant. Her smile softened. Mentally, she congratulated them. She stared at them with envious eyes.xxxxx Zoey envied their love and passion. She desired that. However, no man has ever been interested in her. After all, the sneasel was just a nerd. She was interesting, but no one bothered to know her. She had always been a fan of romance. Desiring and envying the main characters' romance in anime, manga, television shows, or in books. Zoey desired that one man would become interested in her. She has had a few dreams. But one was to fall in love and to start a family. Have a few children and raise them with her husband. No matter how many times she wished for this to become true, she has remained alone. Zoey understood that she had to put herself out into the world for them to see and notice her, rather than stay hidden in her home, just reading books in her spare time. But Zoey couldn't work up the courage. She is shy, cowardly, not confident, and insecure. She needed to work on socializing. And removing herself from the fantasies in her books, and placing herself in reality. She needed friends first. Friends and people to stay by her side.

════════════════════════════ Boomer "I'll get closer to you, step-by-step. Our very own Sweet Holiday." With a slightly distasteful look on his face, Boomer walked down the sidewalk with quiet repugnance toward the slowly changing weather. It went without saying, that the arcanine was strongly against the cold air. It was in his nature to hate it as it nipped his facial features and forced him into warmer attire. But, he didn't travel out into this weather for just any reason. Today he had a goal, and that goal was right around the corner with heated air inside, inviting and welcoming him.
Boomer turned the corner of the sidewalk and eagerly reached a hand out to pull the bookstore door open. He was quick to step inside and close the slightly chilled air out. Once inside, he proceeded to remove his hat, revealing the soft, blond hair that framed his still somewhat tan face. He rarely lost his summer glow even during the colder months. Darker eyes roamed over the store's many bookshelves before he glanced at the girl sitting behind the counter. She seemed to be thoughtful about something, and he was sure he could find what he was looking for on his own, so he opted not to disturb her peace. The man stood at a tall 6 feet 3 inches, with an athletic build. He wasn't dressed as if Autumn had just begun, but rather, as if snow had already fallen several feet deep. Despite his height and fitness, he moved with a certain lightness afoot in his best effort to not burden anyone else with clumsy movement or noise.
His hand reached up and began to trace over the spines of several books carefully. Actually, he was here for one book in particular, for a special lesson he was planning for his university students. But aside from that he was hoping to discover something at random to hold his interest. Without having much luck thus far, the professor allowed his eyes to stray and try to steal a peek once more at the girl behind the counter. Only this time he found she had moved away which left him wondering where she had gone off to... The sound of books being stacked away behind on the shelf once over behind him led him to curiously wander in that direction. There, he saw a giant stack of books being balanced by one, petite figure. The girl from the desk.
"Ah, excuse me....would you like me to help you with that? It looks quite dangerous, I really wouldn't mind taking a few of those for you..." Boomer knew she was too focused on keeping the pile from tumbling over to see him, but he gestured with his hand anyway toward the books in an offer to help take a few off her hands. On top of having more than she could carry, she herself was standing atop a small wooden stool. He hadn't meant to startle her, of course, but he held his arms out slightly as a precaution should she fall.✘

Her eyes hooking onto each word and reeling in each sentence into her mind. Zoey continued to relax, reading. She slumped on the stool, leaning against the counter as she had her head in the book. The door opened with a soft chime of a small bell, and another cold breeze rushed through the warm used bookstore. Zoey's eyes, once again, lingered off the page and looked over her novel. Peeking to see who has just entered this marvelous palace of books and literature. There, she saw a man. A nice, tall, lean, athletically built male with sun kissed skin and bright blond hair. She stared at him, her crimson eyes staring at him. He looked...familiar. Zoey tried to figure out where she had seen him before. xxxxxThe sneasel's train of thought crashed due to her boss, Mr. Schwartz. He slammed a huge pile of books onto the counter. Creating a loud slam. Making her jump and squeal in surprise. Unsteadily, the stool wobbled and then, she and the chair collapsed onto the floor. Zoey's crimson eyes shot open and she gathered her feet together nervously. Not noticing her little fall, Mr. Schwartz sighed and removed his thin, round glasses from his face. Mr. Schwartz was about in his late forties or early fifties. He had owned this shop for thirty years. And she had been working here for about two years. The middle aged man looked to her with humble eyes. "Zoey. Would you mind putting these books away? I saw that people didn't put them away and I gathered them. Would you put them away please?" he asked, his voice rough and hoarse. She nodded with out hesitation. "Y-y-yes, M-mr. Schwartz, she stammered out. A little shaken up by the slam of the books.xxxxxAnd with that, the pleased man walked away, leaving her with a tall tower of books. With a heavy sigh, she slid the books into her arms, still keeping the tower. With all the books, it was very heavy and the ink made it weigh a bit more. Zoey grunted as she eased herself from behind the counter. Managing to keep the tower from collapsing. In her mind, it appeared to look like the leaning tower of Pisa. She kept her eyes on the books, making sure they wouldn't fall. Zoey moved toward a book shelf and slipped one of the novels from the tower, without making it tumble. She placed it back into the shelf, where it had belonged. She sighed heavily. One down. So many to go. Her arms twitched and trembled, growing weary and weak from the heavy books.xxxxx Zoey then heard a soft, warm voice from in front of her. She jumped a little from the voice. One thing about Zoey, she is very jumpy. The sneasel's arms tossed the books after the sudden scare. Books came tumbling down and fell to the ground. Zoey went to the floor and began to gather the books and stack them back into a pile. "I-i-i-i'm so s-s-sorry. I-i a-am a little j-jumpy," she stammered out nervously. Tilting her head upwards, she saw the male with nice, tan skin and soft blond hair. Blood rushed to her cheeks in embarrassment of being so clumsy. She continued to gather the many books. She felt like a fool.
