-Perfect... just absolutely perfect! Aurora peeked tentatively around the edge of the hallway she was in, trying very hard not to be surprised by the something or someone that could be popping out in the next room.

Her heart beat in her chest like a drum, goosebumps riddling her arms. The lights, the sounds, the people. It was no fun at all to be alone in a haunted house.

---

The evening had all began well enough. She got dressed up pretty cute in a simple and fitting orange and black shirt and long skirt and met with friends. Having been convinced earlier in the day into visiting the haunted house with fellow Crystal classmates Abagail and Megan the girls had set out after sunset. The first floor wasn't bad, it was even kind of fun. Cute spooky directions, only minimal scares. Even if they had all laughed their heads off at her when she'd shrieked at things that just made them giggle and howl it was still totally fun.

Even the second floor wasn't THAT bad when she could grope onto her fellow classmates. But somewhere along the way.. between a room with a man that banged loud cans against the wall and the long twisting hallway of solid black she'd lost them. Had she been faster then them? She'd stopped and waited until some ghoulishly dressed figure stepped out, opting for a loud shriek instead of an ask for assistance.-

"Megan! Abagail!?" -She called out as she jogged away from the ghoul and down the hallway. They must have been faster and now instead of a giggling gaggle of shrieking girls there was one terrified girl. And everyone knew that the screamers attracted all the ghoulies.-

So maybe being dragged to help at this stupid haunted house wasn't so terrible. It was certainly better than working at the normal library. After all, it allowed him to put his true skills to work. He got to tease, mock, and scare people for fun: and it was okay. True, not getting in trouble for it made it slightly more boring, but he'd figure a way to push it.

He always did.

But for now he let Tony think they had found a good compromise. He had already made it clear that he couldn't work at the regular library, as he was too mean to patrons, but he was a lot better with Halloween. And he was getting paid for it to boot.

Yeah, it was a good way to waste a night.

Dressed in a bloody, black, tattered robe and as creepy a mask as he could find, he was on scare duty. Hiding in the second floor, though he was supposed to be watching the third, he was ready to terrify anyone who wasn't expecting him. And because he was on the wrong floor, that was pretty much everyone.

But this little screamer girl was the perfect choice. As she hurried along, calling for her friends, Nate stalked her with his metallic, though fake, weapon in hand. When she wasn't watch he darted out behind her, then ran to hide again, just so she had a feeling that someone was following her.

Creeping in the shadows, he watched her like an animal hunting prey.

-She thought she heard footsteps... Even with all the clamour of rattles, bangs, and screams she was sure she heard someone behind her and she glanced back tentatively hoping it might be another person and not a monster.

But when she looked there wasn't anyone at all. She waited a brief moment to see if it was an echo and the person would appear around the corner after a moment.

Frowning as the feeling of unease crept it's way up her spine she turned again, starting to move forward. Things sucked up ahead.. but the feeling of unease about what might be behind her was just as bad.

She yelped as a panel slammed upwards and a person standing behind the wall shouted an creepy hello, stretching his arms out at her as she walked by. And she jumped again at the slam the panel made as it slammed back shut behind her. How long was this stupid haunted house anyway! Would she be able to just leave when she reached the end of the second floor?-

Nathan knew this was going to be a blast.

He just hadn't quite guessed how much. And he was pleasantly surprised.

Nathan stalked her, grinning at the stupid little surprises Tony and the other staff had set up. Was that really supposed to scare anyone? Besides young girls, he supposed. But still, to him it seemed insipid.

Of course, he knew where the surprises were, and that went a long way in his ability to not be startled, and to maintain his aloof 'this sucks' air about the whole thing. He crept after his target, slinking off through the backs of the displays so he could cut in front of her.

With as bestial a yell as he could manage, he charged her, grabbing her in a bear hug and growling as he hoisted her almost clear off the floor, like she was going to be his captive. Or dinner.

-She had come to expect a lot of terrible things the deeper she made it into the haunted house, but none of those things were even close to what had suddenly be unleashed upon her. The ghostly ghoul had appeared out of nowhere, startling her with a yell as he charged and she'd frozen up, breath caught in her throat. But when she'd expected him to weave instead she'd been scooped up, a horrible and earsplitting set of vowels escaping her.- "Aaaaaiiiiiiiiiii!"

-This wasn't a game, a simple harmless scare. The pressure of the bear hug was so real, she could feel the heat of his breath, the feeling as her feet suddenly left the ground. For a moment it almost seemed as if she might have even really thought he was a ghoul not just some jerk in disguise. She squirmed and wriggled, arms too caught up in the motion to attempt to pound on him, even her knees were fairly harmless due to the long skirt.-

"You're ... not ... supposed to ... touch me!!!" -She wailed from her captivity, quoting the well known haunted house rule. Maybe it really WAS a monster, even if not the supernatural kind perhaps the serial killer variety.-

The blood on his costume, all fake of course, but still wet and red, was staining her clothes and arms as he grabbed her and tousled her around. Real enough looking, for anyone who was already freaked out. Just what he wanted, as he was not really one of those people who cared if he messed up other people's clothes or things. In fact, he rather liked causing others problems.

If Tony knew what he was up to, the younger Darrow would be in a lot of trouble.

He laughed, changing his voice so it was a scarier laugh than he would normally let himself used. Halloween was a time for going overboard, wasn't it? And anyway, he was playing a character: might as well get into it. He was not a theatre kid, but he could probably pass as one considering how much fun he had with things like this. And he really did like giving everything he had to one of his games or pranks.

Just made it more fun.

"You're not supposed to be in my library!" he countered ghoulishly, moving to drag her away from the main walkway and down a dark aisle. He had no intention of hurting her, of course, but he couldn't resist the allure of scaring her further. "Now I'll make you pay!"

-It hadn't really dawned on her that her clothes were being ruined, and even later it was unlikely she'd be THAT upset, more thrilled with simply making it out of the ordeal.

A more brave individual might have laughed or been throughly amused by the act he was putting on. But Aurora was not very brave, in fact, she was trying her very best to scramble for the pen that hid away in the bag laying way down past her waist. It was just beyond her grasp. Wouldn't that be fantastic? Survive countless youma and psycho negafreaks only be killed in some stupid haunted house. She shrieked and wiggled as she was dragged, finally getting in a stomp to the foot as she called out, though who knew how effective it was and how thick his shoes where.- "Help!! Please someone help me!"

-A pair of girls rounded the corner, seeing the two struggling before running past them and down the main hallway with a mixture of giggles and screams. Apparently THEY thought the ghoul and his victim were part of the decor.-

"HEY," Nate yelped, picking up his foot and pulling it back, at the same time losing his balance. He toppled sideways, dragging her with him, and, being the chivalrous guy he was, he managed to turn so she took the brunt of the fall and he landed on top of her.

It was her own damn fault anyway.

Thinking he was in trouble, particularly because of the awkward position they were now in, he looked up in alarm as two girls giggled by, but they didn't stop. He grinned, laughing, his character well broken now. Oh well, it had definitely been fun while it lasted.

He pulled back, getting to his feet and not offering to help her up.

"Okay, okay, stop looking like you're going to pass out," he said, pulling off his mask, "you're fine. I'm not going to eat you. Too many bones for my taste. "Did you wet yourself? You better not have: Tony'll be ticked."

He laughed, hard, enjoying himself. "You should have seen your face! Not the bravest girl huh?!"

-The relief of her attack illiciting a response was quickly overshadowed as the downward pull of gravity stole her breath and she found herself being squashed underneath a not so light weight. It was that alone that saved him from another shriek, instead a small squeak escaping her.

Aurora attempted to scurry up and away until his voice sounded, her head whipping around in surprise. Eyes squinted in an attempt to see through the dim lights and light mist, to see who was taunting her and laughing. Oh that laugh. She could feel herself turning red, heat rising to her cheeks. She'd made a complete fool of herself.-

"You're... such a... jerk!" -It was the first thing that came out of her mouth as she pulled herself off the ground, trying her best to glare at the boy when she really just wanted to cry.- "You horrible horrible monster!"

"Deliquent!" -It seemed something about the fall had jostled her nerve back into her. She looked ridiculous standing in front of him with tight little fists at her side as he laughed.-

He laughed harder as she yelled at him, believing her when she called him all those things. Of course he was a monster, that was the point! It was a compliment to be called horrible: he was going for that and it seemed he had done well. Very well, if her face and the way she was still shaking was any indication.

And delinquent? Yeah, he was one of those, too. Damn proud.

"Oh, come on! You'll look back on it and think it was the best halloween ever. You should have heard yourself, smallfry. You were screaming up a storm! I bet no one's ever scared you that bad!"

He grinned like these were all great things, and she should be honored or very happy about the scare he had taken time out of his day to give her. After all, he didn't HAVE to pick her, and she could have had a boring trip through the boring library.

He watched her, shaking his head. "Oh, settle down. You're fine."
