Europa was still courting Themis for the Basterds. With Castor off the team, she'd been considering a replacement for some time, and Xavier's recent awakening was just the sign she'd been waiting for. The boy scout would bring some much needed testosterone onto the team and balance out all the girls - she could tell at the last meeting that Jaimie felt more than a bit out of place, and Pasha could only barely be counted as male.
She'd agreed to go patrolling with her friend to see how he was on his feet. Some senshi took to roof-jumping right away, while others required a few training sessions. She'd been through this with Eos in the spring, but so far Themis was proving to be an apt pupil. No, more than that - a star student.
"You got really good at this really fast," she said as they jogged easily across the roof of a strip mall. "Have you been practicing?"
He had to have been practicing. Next to no one was a natural at roof jumping.

If there was one good thing about this whole being a senshi thing... This whole becoming suddenly a god damn monster magnet after having a pen given to you by a talking cat (and then having all your illusions of it being a dream shattered)
Ahem.
If there was one good thing about being a senshi, it was the roof jumping. Oh, dear gods, the roof jumping. He felt like some sort of super-human.
At least, he would until he inevitably tried to do it while not in henshin, and would proceed to ******** himself up amazingly. Such was the world of Xavier Avery.
"How the hell could I not have been practicing this ?" He said, keeping on his own run. "This is ******** AWESOME. This is--"
Themis jumped, but didn't quite land right. Which meant that he screamed that high-pitched scream he let out whenever something starled him and felt somewhere down the lower part of that roof.
So much for star-students, Europa ?

Perhaps she'd spoken too soon. Concerned, Europa slowed and traced back to the edge of the roof. Looking down, she saw Themis lying at an odd angle on a lower platform - this couldn't possibly be good. "Are you okay?" she asked, lowering herself down to where he was. It wasn't far to fall, only about four feet, but if you hadn't been expecting it it could really have messed you up.
"Don't get cocky," she berated seriously as she helped him to his feet. "You need to always know where you're going or else you'll be an easy target."
Tallulah was a big fan of planning ahead. She hopped back up onto the higher level and waited for him to join her. "Are you distracted?" she asked, studying his face intently, "Or just clumsy?"

"Ow." Came to oh-so-theatrical answer. At least he was still alive ? When she came, Themis caught her hand and helped himself back on his own too feet. He'd get a few bruises out of this, most likely, not much else, given that he rejoined her after a few seconds.
"Well, let's put forth an hypothetical scenario." This meant two things - one, he had been thinking, i.e distracted. Xavier had a one-track mind in the truest sense, in that he could only really do one thing at once without ******** up somewhere. This was also true for Sailor Themis.
Two, this mean this hypothetical scenario wasn't hypothetical at all. He's given Europa that one way too much for her to buy it. One would think he'd have learned. He hadn't.
"Say there's this girl, alright ? She leaves a guy her phone number. Not for... well, you know, but for a contact information in case something doesn't work out. Would the guy be breaking some sort of womanly code that could potentially result in the lost of his manhood if he called her for... well, you know ?"

At first, Europa just stared at him, trying to decipher the question. Then, she replied, "Well, did she seem like she wanted you to call her?" She wasn't fooled by the hypothetical at all - she knew him way too well. Xavier had met a girl, and she was going to get all the details one way or another.
"Zay, you want to call her, right?" she grinned. "Was she pretty?"
This rapidly devolved into, "Zay, you're going to call her, right? Right?"
They both knew he hadn't been in a serious relationship since freshman year - Europa was personally worried that he was losing his ability to talk to girls. She certainly didn't count. "You think she liked you?" she asked.

"It's a hypothetical question !" He probably should have known better. But he didn't.
He leaped onto another part of the roof, thankfully not causing a repeat of his previous fall. His arm and his leg was hurting a little from it, on the sides he had fallen, but nothing too bad. Couldn't be anything worse than bruises in his future.
Then, he sighed. "I don't know, that's the problem. She gave it to me because..." Ugh, complicated. "I saw her at work, alright ? And her father has this company that make computer software for music. She told me to call and see if I could get in beta tests and get a free copy, and to call her if they were giving me s**t. Nothing else."

"Wait," said Europa. "So was she a Crystal girl?" Software mogul's daughter sure sounded like it might be a Crystal girl, but she couldn't say she knew one of that exact description. "Or older? College? Did she say?"
Themis dating a Crystal girl could certainly get kind of dicey - Surely he knew about the boy in his year who'd been sent to Hillworth on sexual harassment charges! But if she'd already graduated he might stand a chance. And besides, she'd made a pretty generous offer of a favor.
"I think you should call her," she said. "Unless by nothing else she told you not to call her for any reason besides that one. In which case you should call the company first and see if they give you s**t?"
She really wasn't sure how things like beta testing worked.
"And if they don't, call her to thank her - and then ask her out to dinner."

"She didn't seem like a crystal girl to me ?" She'd seemed anything but, really. "But hmmm..." He scratched at the back of his head. "I can't remember. She didn't tell me anything about that. I can't remember her from Meadowview, or even Sovereign." Strange, kind of, but he was certain that if she'd been at his school, he would have remembered her in some way. He was good with faces.
"She just told me to call if the company was giving me trouble. It didn't, so..."
"Stop getting ahead of yourself." He rolled his eyes. "She probably has a boyfriend. Or isn't interested into little 4-eyed ******** up DJs."

"Oh, you never know!" chided Europa, ribbing him cheerfully and then jumping away before he could hit her back. "Maybe she finds it charming? What was the mystery girl's name? Surely you got that, Romeo!"
"Maybe it's just your lucky week," she shrugged, hopping up on a low wall and walking along it. "First you get your henshin pen, then you meet a beautiful girl!"
She was back in front of him again one neat leap later. "And you'll never know if you don't ask her out."

Themis lunged to push at her shoulder, but she was out of the way before he got there - and very nearly tumbled face down, but his body seemed to catch itself. This henshin buisness was such an odd thing. It was just incredibely wierd to have his body reacts in ways it shouldn't be.
Beside roof-jumping. Roof jumping was cool.
"If by lucky week you mean, the week where the world decided to go upside down on my a**." He grumbled. "Then, yes, this week is very lucky." He hadn't asked to be part of all this mess, thank you.
When she was back in front of him, he just gave her the small shove he'd been saving. "She said her name was Bell. That was probably some kind of nickname ?" What were the odds that Tallulah knew her, anyway ?
Really, he would never learn. "I don't do that kind of thing, Tal !" He said, exasperated.

Tallulah paused, grinned at him, and asked, "It wasn't Bell McMahon, was it?" She'd only be partially surprised if it was - for a city so large, Destiny City tended to breed alarmingly small social circles. But if it was Bell... well, this was even better.
"If it was Bell McMahon," she said, pacing a few feet in front of him, practically preening in her good luck. She couldn't be the only person who took delight in matching teammates up, and even better, Bellatrix and Themis would look so cute patrolling together! "Then I do know her."
"She's single, she's an actress, and she's a freshman at DCU. You have to ask her out, Zay! You have to!"

What.
Wait.
What.
The second he saw that grin, well, he knew one thing - he was proper and utter ********. He could have said the last names didn't match, but there was two things that made him unable to do so.
First, he was looking like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. He was aware of this.
Second was, well, even if he lied to Europa, she'd figure it out. She knew him too well.
"You are absolutely certain she's single ?" How in the ******** hell could she be single ? Clearly she had to be wrong, and clearly it would be his salvation.
"I just... s**t." He muttered. "Im going to blow this up. Better if I don't." Then he just leaped ahead.

Europa was hot on his heels, leaping behind him. "So it is Bell McMahon!" she called triumphantly. "She's single! She's so single! She's one of my friends, you should definitely ask her out!"
She was basically chasing him at this point, lording the knowledge over him. Oh, Zay and Bell would be such a cute couple! A senshi couple! (Zay could find that out on his own, though. She didn't think it was her place to out people as superheroes.)
"Oh!" she called. "I know! You should ask her to go to the Halloween carnival! There'll be lots of chances to get close to her there!"
Speaking of, she needed to make sure she and her boyfriend would be getting close at the Halloween carnival.

There was only one solution left to this.
"If I do it." He muttered. "Will you leave me alone ? And if I fail fabulously, you're not allowed to laugh at me."
And she would pay for the booze, but he was getting ahead of himself. Even through failure seemed imminent.

"Don't be such a pessimist!" said Tallulah, catching up and slinging an arm around his neck. (It was a bit of a stretch.) "It is going to be great, just you see!"
The longer they talked about this, the more exciting it got. She was grinning from ear to ear. "Come on, let's finish up and get some coffee. It's getting cold out."
