Please note that this is a past tense RP between Takuma and Nari (er, and their parents to some degree). Please also not if the Nobuyukis are only talking amongst themselves they are speaking in Japanese.

Makoto was walking from the local temple with his son in tow. Technically it looked to be the other way around since the young Takuma was trying to drag his father by his sleeve in an attempt to make him go faster. They both wore loud somewhat formal traditional Japanese clothing. It was a holiday and dressing up was a rare occasion for them. "Daaaaad, I want to go to the festival! C'mon, let's go." The boy whined incessantly. Their visits to the shrine were always so boring or weird. Often it was both. The boy could not stand how boring and long their temple visits were. It was like a slow torture.

"We will get there soon enough. It shouldn't matter if we get there quickly. You shouldn't be so impatient." Makoto lectured as he purposely walked a bit slower to tease the boy. Makoto also wanted to see the sights of the festival. However if his son was going to try to be pushy little brat then he should might as well give the kid a hard time. "I'm getting tired. Perhaps we should go home..." He casually teased further riling up his son.

Sadly this tended to work far too well on Takuma. He could never tell if his dad's threats were real or not. "You promised we could go to the festival today. Dad, you promised!" Takuma protested as they continued at their sluggish pace.

Nari was skipping along beside her dad. Manabu looked slightly unkempt and worn, as though he had just woken up. Because it was a fire festival, he was wearing a rather boring yellow yukata. Nari however was dressed in a pink yukata, with sleeves fading to purple, and many brightly colored dragonflies on it. Her strawberry blond hair was pulled up into a bun and decorated with firefly and butterfly hair pins. She clutched a butterfly bag in her hands as she walked. She was fascinated with the clop clop clop sound of her sandals as she walked that she didn't notice Takuma and his father ahead of them. Manabu did, and vaguely waved a hand at them.

"Nobuyuki-san, Takuma-chan, good evening." Manabu's greeting was about as lazy as his clothes were boring. But it was enough to make Nari's head snap up.

"Kuma-papa! Kuma-chan!" She giggled and ran towards them. "Kuma-chan! Kuma-chan! Aren't you excited for the festival?" She said excitedly, and began talking to him while her father walked up.

"I see you got roped into taking Takuma to the festival, hm Makoto?" Manabu yawned slightly. He was about to say ore when Nari piped up.

"Kuma-papa!" She smiled happily, then looked a little flustered as she tried out her japanese. "You and Takuma are wearing... very ... Very erotic yukata!" Yes, she was sure she said it correctly.

Her father's instant laughter said otherwise.

Makoto turned towards his friend(?) and tried to swing Takuma towards them hoping the kid would let go. The constant tugging was actually becoming very annoying. "Ah, Asa-san, Nari-chan good evening. I hope you both are well." He greeted them cheerily.

Takuma let go of his dad's sleeve and ran up to Nari once he saw her. "Nari-chan, you are going too?" He was excited to see his friend. Maybe if he was good dad would let them all go together... Or get ice cream! Would he dare hope they could have both?

Once Makoto had caught up to his son he set his hand on top of the boy's head. "We look forward to the fire festival every year." Makoto politely listened to the others talk until Nari's little slip. He couldn't help but laugh at what she had said.

Despite not recognizing the word Nari used Takuma could tell it was a compliment. "It's new!" Takuma flaps his arms enthusiastically to show this. How flapping a red yukata is a display of newness nobody will ever know. Suddenly Takuma began to notice how out of place their parent's behavior was. The laughing adults seemed weird. Too weird. "Dad, what's so funny? What was that word?"

Makoto suddenly stopped snickering. As funny as it had been it was cruel to continue on. There is no way the young girl thought a blue and white or red yukata was very very erotic. He was certain she had no idea what the word meant and did not think it was appropriate to try to define the word to Takuma here and now. "It was a mistake that sounded very silly. Nothing more." Makato shot a quick glance at Asa hoping he would have enough sense to quiet down. He switched to using English knowing the girl was not fully fluent in Japanese yet. It was an attempt to help Nari not feel pressured to keep up. "There is nothing wrong with making mistakes Narichan. Making a mistake is better than not trying at all. You should speak in a way that makes you feel comfortable."

"Of course I'm going too!" She said, already forgetting her blunder on words. She held out her arms. "Look look! My yukata is so cute! The dragonflies are so pretty, aren't they?" She spun around once for Takuma to see her front and back. While the children were distracted, and when Manabu had regained himself, he eyed Makoto a moment.

"Ah, we're doing alright I suppose. Though I can think of a few bars I'd rather be at rather than this festival." He rubbed his chin a few times. "But the old nag decided it would be good for us to go to this thing. So... here we are."

Nari looked up at the adults. "We can all go together now!"

Takuma marveled at his friend's kimono. "It's wonderful Nari-chan." He was glad to see she was able to find one that was both pretty and had insects on it. They weren't a very girly animal so he imagined it was an amazingly rare one.

As the kids happily compared their festival clothing the adults continued talking. "There isn't anything at the festival you like?" Makoto asked curiously. He was personally interested in the music and plays that happened during the festival.

Upon hearing Nari talk about being able to go to the festival Takuma came to a horrible realization. All of this chatter was further delaying them from getting to the festival. This must be yet another one of his dad's evil plots to delay them! He returned to his father's side to try to get them all moving again. "Dad, let's go." When Makoto pretended to ignore him Takuma grabbed onto his sleeve and began tugging on it again. "Daaad, you promised we could go. Can't you talk there?"

Makoto stood his ground against the tugging and shrugged. "I'm sorry Asa-san. He has been worked up over this all day." That was actually Makoto's fault since he had been teasing the boy about possibly not going all day.

"I liked it better when the festivals still allowed alcohol. But now... ah, they're pretty boring. I never really cared for them. So noisy and crowded. And now with the rugrat?" Manabu pinched the bridge of his nose as Takuma began to pester his father. He looked at the tot, then at Nari who looked like she was about to pout. "What?"

"I want to hurry up and go to the festival. I want to see the drummers and the fireworks and play games and the food I... Daddy, we're going to miss it!" Nari said staring at her dad.

"I really don't want to go." Manabu sighed.

"I guess that makes sense." Makoto couldn't stand those who didn't want to appreciate their own culture (especially those who don't want to encourage their children to learn about it). However he had enough sense to not call the guy out on it. Asa seemed dangerously close to happily not going for real. If little Nari were to suddenly not be able to go with them he knew Takuma would celebrate being at the festival by sulking. "The sooner we go the sooner we can leave." Makoto reasoned with his friend (?). It was better to get unpleasant things done with and that requires actually doing it.

"What?!" Upon hearing this Takuma went from annoyed to frantic. "No, dad we have to stay for the fireworks!" Even though he liked most of the other things at the festival fireworks were the boy's favorite. Fried food was beyond pleasant but it couldn't compete with explosions. The concept of decorative explosions was so amazing. They were so loud and brilliant. He desperately wanted to see them and it still would not be dark until much much later.

"Yeah yeah..." Manabu sighed, looking at the children. He still grumbled about not being able to get drinks though. It was painfully obvious he didn't want to go to the festival, and would rather be anywhere but there.

Nari drooped when Takuma's father stated that they cold leave early if they got there early. This was the ONE NIGHT she could stay up past her bed time! She could have all the junk food she wanted and win prizes and the adults were conspiring against her and Takuma.

"That's... not fair." Nari pouted, looking woefully at her dad. Manabu sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Kaminari..." He started.

"You don't have to go. Kuma-chan and I will go." She nodded, as if saying it would be perfectly acceptable for 2 young children to run around the festival alone, after dark, so far from home.
