After posting in the introductions thread, I skimmed some posts and noticed that some of you guys said you're learning Japanese.
Anyone here doing some serious studies? Just casual learning? How long for? Anyone visit Japan?

I am taking classes at a local community collage (probably read that in the intro area) , and I am currently only in the most basic class rolleyes
I know hiragana now though 3nodding
I would love to visit Japan one day, but for now I think I need to learn more of the language first. (if I do go, I am NEVER gettting on their trains. They are extremely packed 0.0)

That's cool ^-^ Once you've got Hiragana down, learning katakana is a breeze (since you already know the corresponding sound chart.)
Have you learnt any kanji yet? I used to know about 200-300.. but I've been slacking lately, so I've forgotten a lot of the readings.
Aww, don't give up on them before you even try! I loved the trains in Japan. I can't count the number of times I've been stuck waiting 45+ minutes for a bus here, when the trains came every 6 minutes in my old city.. and I wasn't even in Tokyo! And there's usually a place to sit down.. on nice, comfy seats.
I mean, you're right, some of the time they can get really packed. One day I was headed to school and for some reason I couldn't take my bike.. and being a total idiot I didn't get up early. ("I'll just a sleep for a few more minutes. How bad can it really be?") Ended up getting caught in the middle of rush hour; the train was so full that even after several tries I had trouble squeezing in!
Moral of the story is: just don't go anywhere in rush hour wink

I took three years in high school and a semester in college; I don't speak much anymore. Never been to Japan, either, though it's somewhere I'd like to visit eventually.
I did Okinawan Taiko, too, in high school. That was awesome.

It was casual until I started applying for jobs in Japan.
Then it got series. I studied like my hair was on fire and gained JLPT level 1 certification.
However, I wasn't able to land a job in Japan or using Japanese, so it's kind of rotting away now..
仕方ないな~
