It had cost them a bit of money, but the large ballroom they had rented was perfect for their ball. The marble floors shone brightly under the light of the chandeliers, one wall nothing but a sheet of mirror. Music played from the speakers overhead from the domed roof, which were connected to the DJ station up on the front stage. Tables of foods and goodies were set up along the sides, but the majority of the floor was cleared for dancing and mingling.

"I'm going to make a total fool of myself." Darcy huffed, looking down at her feet as, trying to focus on her steps as her brother led her in slow, awkward waltz. "Can't you teach any faster? I need to have this down before everyone shows up." The girl's tone was impatient and....was that a hint of nervousness? No, no, of course not. Darcy never got nervous. Ever.

"Well, you should have thought of this before hand." Aaron pointed out, offering his sister an "I told you so" smile. "You'll be fine. It's just like walking in a square and counting. As long as you don't step on their feet, you should be fine." Really, the boy looked all too amused with his sister's difficulty. It was her fault, though; he'd warned her that she should start learning early. But did she ever listen to him? Of course not.

"Shut up." was the girl's only reply, huffed out in annoyance as she focused on her steps. "Easy for you to say, Mr.Look-At-Me-I'm-A-Natural-Dancer." She was sorely tempted to step on his foot, but she refrained. For now. After all, she had to focus on learning these stupid dance steps. Feh.

Jaella was also dancing on the the dance floor, holding her little toddler and sweeping the rather unamused toddler around. "C'mon, smile Canti-can! This is a party! You should smile some. What do you say? Smile for Momma?" she cooed, beaming at her baby before kissing the child's forehead, ignoring the toddler's grimace of protest.

Near the wall, another orange-haired child sat on the floor, green eyes hidden behind the white screen of his mask as he watched the others dance in silence. Beside him stood a dark-haired doll, her eyes concealed by a white blindfold. The doll stood stock-still, as one would expect of a doll. It was just a doll, right?

A masked prince entered; having dyed his hair a raven black to suit the holiday. (Or perhaps it was personal prefrence, one could never tell with him). With a silver circlet carefully placed on his head not to disturb his equally carefully styled hair. His prince's suit was black with orange trim, this time with bronze buttons. He walked with a dancer's grace, though there was something uncertain about the smile he wore. Almost as if he was nervous. Blue eyes studied his surroundings, studied the Azoulais; he smirked.

Darcy seemed to be having as much trouble dancing as he did. Maybe he would ask her to dance, too. That was, unless his favorite person to dance with showed up... Then he probably wouldn't be able to tear himself away from her for very long. He had a gift for that certain someone, if she did choose to appear. Something special. Something he knew she would like.

He made his way towards the two, smiling in Aaron's direction. "Nice costume," he said. "You too, Darcy. Maybe we'll be able to dance, hm?" If only for the chance to tease her.

What was there to be said? Heartless Howl wanted to dance with all the girls.
~~~
Not very far away was a certain fae; a certain fae who was dragging his cousin behind him. "Come on Sammi. I don't know if Milo'll be here or not. Stop asking." He released her hand and craned his neck to look over her shoulder. "Where did Reiya go?" he asked. Sure, he had noticed the older girl had been nervous and reluctant to come; but that was normal, right? Girls were supposed to be nervous before balls. It was like, tradition.
"She's outside," Samantha explained with a sigh. "Said something about not wanting to come in without a date."
Loki sighed. "I don't have a date," he pointed out. "I could dance with her."
His cousin rose her eyebrow at him before shaking her head. "No, it wouldn't be the same," she said. "But it's really nice of you to offer," she added with a smile. "You should dance with Aesica. You've been smitten with her since--I can't remember." She smirked when she noticed a blush on the formerly casual pirate. "Reiya'll find a date. If not, I'll find one for her." There was a spark in Sammi's eyes that might not have been only determination.
Loki decided to put a safe distance between himself and the poison-princess. He knew her ability; and also knew halloween costumes were highly flamable. "If she doesn't have one by the second dance, I'll find one for her," he assured Sammi.
Kali, as usual, was shepherding the Kovak children around; this time, however, she was joined by a rather large man, tugging at a masquerade mask uncomfortably.
"Is this really neccessary?" Viktor muttered, looking down at his niece. He didn't really approve, of her costume, but knew it was better than it had been. Really, what had his brother been doing with her? Paying no attention at all? It was no wonder she had left.
"It's halloweve, Uncle Viktor. Of course it's necessary." The red-head was wearing robes, of sorts; a top that exposed her midriff and slid off her shoulders; though there was a black top beneath it that covered both her shoulders, and part of her midriff. She was also wearing a different bottom than she'd planned to; but it still looked good.
"Papa, let's dance!" Katia smiled, tugging on her father's hand. His mood did a 180 and he laughed, swinging her up into his arms. The bell she wore around her neck tinkled, the cat ears and tail bouncing as he twirled her around.
"Of course, Katia-doll!" He told her, setting her down on his feet. She knew how to dance, but his legs were far longer than hers, and this made it much easier.
"Lu!" Luka did not chase after Katia as he usually would, opting to stay near Kali instead. He was on the lookout for Kouki, or Cain. He sure as heck wasn't going near Viktor!
"I don't see them either, Luka." Kali said, looking around the room. She saw Howl, and some other children, but there was no sign of Lance, or his mischevious, guitar loving Shadow.
"You gonna ask her to daaance?" Charlie grinned and elbowed Lance in the side playfully as the two of them arrived in at the Gala. The black-haired boy scowled and shot a look at his friend from behind his mask before rolling his eyes slightly. The two of them were both in their Halloween's best, naturally - Lance had opted for a vampire costume (though not one of the p***y, sparkly ones obviously), and Charlie was...well, Charlie was Charlie. Oh course, he'd chosen to wear the most innapropriate costume he could find, apparently not caring about the fact that this was supposed to be a bloody GALA. Lance could only hope that the impling wouldn't scar any kids while they were here. Were there even any kids here? If Katia had come, he hoped that she wouldn't get a look at Charlie.
"Yes, and you'd better piss off when I do."
Floating beside Lance was Cain, the violet-eyed shadow already on the lookout for his best friend. Had Luka come? He certainly hoped so. "Vim?" The winged shadow let out a small chirp as he examined their surroundings - he'd never been to such a fancy place! It was so exciting. It only became more-so when the shadow spotted his friend nearby; almost immediately, the little shadow zipped towards Luka, who was standing near Kali as well. In regular fashion, Cain tackled his friend in welcome, nuzzling at the other shadow. "VIM!" The sudden movement of their shadow had caught Lance's attention too, and he quickly saw the redhead who was standing near Luka - Kali.
"I'll see you later; don't have sex in the bathroom." Without waiting for a reply, the gothic boy made his way across the floor and toward Kali. "What's a pretty girl like you doing here by yourself, huh?" Lance grinned from behind his mask, tipping it up slightly as he looked at her. "Waiting for a dance, are we?"
"...is it safe to leave him alone like that?" Kali asked, looking over Lance's shoulder at Charlie. What the hell was he wearing? Even she flushed when she saw it, averting her eyes.
"Nevermind. I don't know him. I can't be held responsible!" She beamed at Lance, studying his costume with a grin.
"Fitting, goth boy. And what if I am?" She cocked her head at him, reaching up to straighten his collar for him, more out of habit than anything else. Really. It wasn't because she wanted to touch him. Not at all. And she certainly didn't want to lean in and smell him. Nope.
Not at all.
Luka chirruped as Cain slammed into him, spinning around in mid-air. He managed to not get knocked down, out of practice and sheer determination. He chattered, something that sounded almost like laughter, and pointed proudly at the ribbon Katia had wrapped around him. It was green, like his eyes, and it was his costume. He was very proud of it.
A certain ragdoll was biting her lip hard under her mask. To say Eve was nervous was an understatment. The toddler had been dropped off Romero of all people and told to try to enjoy herself. Enjoyment was not something the little girl thought went with dancing and being alone.
"He eri?" The voice reminded her that she wasn't exactly alone, but Herion was very shy still and tended to cling to her back. The shadow didn't trust others very much especially when they came into contact wit his host.
She walked in, smoothing her feathery white skirt, looking very strange at her attempt to be a dancing swanmane. She looked around, wondering if she could be a wallflower instead of a socialable young lady?
Regina had somehow managed to sneak past Azrael and another girl outside the ballroom seemingly flirting with one another. Strange how she felt a twinge of something... Eh, who was she to care? Upon entering, the poor queen suddenly realized there were very few people actually in the room and even fewer guys. Great, and here she was hoping to be able to find some sort of prince to dance with.
Or at least a fake one. Gah. Thankfully she spotted a couple of people she knew so she wouldn't have to act like a complete idiot and be a wallflower. Absolutely pathetic they were.
"Probably not; I'm trying to pretend that I don't know him though." In fact, Lance's back was completely turned to his best friend; this was probably why he didn't see the redhead flirting with some poor girl. Good God, he never behaved for even a night. Not one!
"I thought so." He grinned, revealing fake vampire teeth that he'd gotten to completely the costume with. "And if you are, then you're in luck, because Dracula's looking for someone to join him on the dance floor." He gave her a sweeping bow with his cape before offering a hand to her; he could play the gentleman when he really wanted to.
Cain chirped in awe at the ribbon around his friend, thinking that it looked quite impressive indeed. After a moment, he squeaked in response and let go of Luka so as to show his own costume - a cardboard guitar that he was wearing via a string wrapped around his torso. He'd made it himself, and was really quite proud of it!
Dimitri had not wanted to come. At all.
But, it was hard to hide from someone who had a magic ball that they could scry you in, and it was even harder to deny a very tall father who was also being forced to go.
So here he was.
Standing by one of the food tables at the edges, dressed up in fancy gold-edged black clothing, half of his face hidden by a mask, Dimitri looked very hard to appear aloof and cool. Like he wasn't sulking.
Which he was.
His costume was stupid, he thought. They were all supposed to match, or some such. His dad was the king, he was the prince (And, he was a prince!) and Katia was the princess. With cat ears and a tail, because she thought they were cool. Kali was a bit of an outcast, but had named herself the royal mage of their psuedo court.
She had also enchanted his clothes to stay on, damn her. He couldn't change, and he couldn't leave.
"I thought Dracula looked for poor girls to seduce with necks to bite." She took his hand with a coy smile, swirling nimbly out onto the dancefloor with him. One of the lessons Zak had given her, among one of his many un-magical sessions, had been dance lessons. Specifically, the waltz and tango. It hadn't been an entirely un-magical session, because he'd been testing memory transplanting and alteration, but whatever. She hadn't practiced any magic. She'd just been a guinea pig.
"Luu..." Luka's eyes widened as he saw Cain's cardboard guitar, reaching out one hand to bat at it. He chirrupped happily and snuggled Cain again, taking his hands and spinning around in the air. Everyone else was dancing! So they should dance too! It was just like Katia, and Viktor! Maybe, if he showed Viktor how well he could spin around in circles, Viktor would let him come near!
"Mmmm...that too. But that can wait." Fingers wrapped around Kali's hand as the two of them headed out onto the dance floor. Now admittedly, Lance didn't have that much experience when it came to dancing; he'd never had the opportunity to learn properly. However, he'd learned a bit from Charlie (who knew that the brat had known how to waltz?) and he hoped that it would be enough to get him through the evening. He actually found himself WANTING to impress Kali, which was strange. "There's more fun to be had."
Dancing! Of course Cain would dance with Luka! That had to be one of the funnest things in the world, next to playing with Lance's guitar! The violet-eyed shadow let out a squeal of delight and began to help with the momentum, causing them both to spin faster. Oh what fun this was! "Vim!"
PostPosted: Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:50 pm
They were standing a bit close for a regular waltz, but Kali didn't mind at all. She smiled at Lance and began the dance, letting him lead and swirl her across the floor. He wasn't bad; not as good as the partner in the memories that weren't quite hers, but still pretty good. She began to enjoy herself more and more, even going so far as to forget her uncle across the room.
But, he hadn't forgotten her. When Katia wasn't looking, he was watching Kali and Lance, steely blue eyes focused on the boy.
Piercings. He looked like a hooligan. But, he didn't judge the boy based on his appearance. That was wrong. No, he thought. He should judge him on his behaviour.
And god help Lance if he didn't stay at his best.
Luka squealed as their momentum sent them across the room, rocketing toward Dimitri at a surprising speed. Used to the shadow, Dimitri ducked before he could be slammed into, and Luka fluttered his wings to keep them from hitting the wall. Good! This was good! He could steer this now.
"Lu!" He chattered. They should go show their hosts how good they were doing!
Lance hadn't had the pleasure (or misfortune) of meeting Viktor as of yet; this was probably why he didn't notice the man watching him. Instead, he was concentrating on keeping himself in time with the beat that they were dancing at - it wasn't that difficult, since he was fairly used at keeping a beat on his guitar. Now he just had to use his feet instead of his hands.
"Did you bring Katia too?" he asked after a moment, figuring that he'd better start up some kind of conversation. He hadn't seen her as of yet, but he figured that she must have been there since Cain was off playing with Luka.
Hopefully, they weren't getting into too much s**t.
Unfortunately, Cain's host was currently back at the apartment, since Lance had refused to bring the guitar along this time. However, the little shadow definitely had no qualms of showing everyone else how well he and his friend were doing with their dancing! "Vim vim!"
The orange haired twins stopped dancing, turning to face the arriving guests. Aaron smiled slightly, chuckling. "Thank you." he said, nodding his head once. "Nice costume yourself, Howl. Glad you could make it." He looked over the other guests, seeing some familiar faces and some new faces. He offered a friendly smile and a wave to them, bowing politely towards the people arriving. "Welcome!" he greeted, his warm voice carrying through the room. His eyes fell on a certain little rag doll, standing out there all alone....where was her guardian? He walked over, offering a warm smile as he approached. "Hello, Eve." he greeted, kneeling to her level.
Darcy smirked slightly as the oh-so-familiar wizard approached. "Hello, Howl." she greeted, giving a small, mock-curtsy. She chuckled at his suggestion a moment before answering. "We'll see." she said, which, roughly translated, meant no way and forget it. She could barely dance with her brother, let alone- hey! Her brother left her! "Nice costume. Prince, right?" she asked, her eyes flicking from her brother back to Howl.
Eve smiled at the warm welcome, feeling slightly less nervous though the desire to be a wallflower instead of making a fool of herself on the dance floor was there close to her mind.
Ivy had a job that she had already agreed to work on a week ago, so her mother couldn't come.
Anya had gone with Louie for a romantic evening in an area far away and Damin had a entire evening of house calls to do for patients of his.
Romero didn't even want to come, so Eve was by herself for once.
She smiled at Aaron, "Hello, Aaron, right?" She remembered hearing his name and figured she had spoken with him before. The fact that he knelt to her level made her hope to get taller sooner, so some adults didn't have to do that.
She glanced around, "Amazing ball."
Herion peeked around her shoulders and stared at Aaron with distrust, wondering if his host would even listen to him if he told her to get away from this stranger. "He, ri?"
