Why was it that every where she went, everything she did the dirt just had to stick to her fur. It was an evil little substance which the ground was made out of. At least in the winter when snow covered most of the ground she didn't have this problem, but until winter came she'd just have to constantly clean her fur of this awful substance. She shuddered as she looked down at her light blue paw covered in dirt. It just needed to be cleaned. Ears swiveling on the top of her head Bright Lights listened for the closest stream with running water. Finding one she moved in its direction, hoping this stream wasn't muddy itself. If it was, well then she'd have to continue to search for a stream or a water source which wasn't dirty. Her pure white fur couldn't be tarnished with this ugly color.

Splash! Splish splash!
The large male Krokotas kicked up a lot of water, bounding around as if he were still a pup. Still, he could be excused just this once, right? Afterall, it wasn't often he was blessed to find such a source of cleanliness! The stream bottom was littered with countless round, water-worn pebbles and rocks...but not mud. Of course, when they wore down enough, those lovely clean rocks became tiny grains of irritating sand...but in this current state, the Krokotas was pleased to use them for walking on as he bathed.
Or bounding upon, whatever.
Grinning and tongue lolling out of his mouth, he paused his romp in order to enjoy the clean, smooth stones beneath his paws, the cold water washing by and taking any remaining particles of dirt from his fur. How heavenly...did it get any better than this?

The sound of splashing water reached her sensitive ears as she moved closer towards the nearest water source. When she emerged from the brush she came upon the sight of the male krotota bounding through the water. He was a light pale color with brown streaks across his face. Light blue eyes and ribs with some sort of blue bracelets around his left forearm. She wondered if she should leave and head up or down the water source, though what she could tell by scent is that this part was the cleanest. Else she figured she would have to walk a bit of ways to find a clean part to bath. More walking would only cause her to get more dirt in her fur. So she decided to stay. Still she didn't know how to go about this, since this was the first time she had encountered another Krotota at a preferred bathing source.

Completely immersed in his own bathing ritual, it was some time before Taron realized he wasn't alone. In fact, he'd paused to shake the dripping water from his fur, grinning like a pup, when he became aware of the feeling of being watched. Blinking away the water droplets threatening to fall in his eyes, he glanced around, fixing his gaze on the lone heat source on the riverbank.
A lone female. And she seemed confused or conflicted about something. Though, the way she kept glancing from the water, then up and down the river again, he figured he could make a safe guess at the basis of her hesitation.
So, smiling, his dripping tail swishing from side to side in a friendly manner, he called out to the female on shore, "Come on in, the water's great!" He sensed no trouble from the other Krokotas and he certainly wasn't looking for any. Just a nice, clean bath.

She was silent for a few moments mulling over her own thoughts before she replied. "Well, it looks as if you are having fun, and I really don't know if I should disturb you. If you are sure you won't mind me joining you in the water then I will." her voice was soft, kind, almost mother like.
Half of her was tempted to join him right away to be rid of the dirt in her white fur, but she resisted...for now.

Taron laughed, openly and in a friendly manner, not mocking. "If you were disturbing me, I wouldn't have invited you in! Come on in, as I said, it's quite nice here," he smiled, tail still wagging behind him, tossing water droplets into arcs through the air before they returned to the gently flowing river below. Nothing like a nice, clean, refreshing bath to put him in a pleasant mood.
Completely unaware of the female's similar interests, he voiced his own by chance, "It's a nice spot here. None of that nasty mud or sand to get between your toes. Just nice clean water and smooth rocks; just be careful not to slip, miss." He continued smiling, at least holding relatively still now, as opposed to his earlier bounding.

A small smile appeared upon the krokota's face. That was just what she wanted to hear. A place to bath with no mud or sand to dirty her white coat while bathing. "Well then this spot sounds like my place to bath, after all the evil dirt in my fur must be washed away." And with that she joined the male into the gently flowing river, letting the flowing waters clean the dirt from her white coat.

Evil dirt? A wide grin spread over Taron's face and he let out an amused chuckle. Finally, someone who understood! "Exactly! Just finished ridding myself of the evil menace not long ago!" Tail swishing like an overgrown pup, the male flopped his haunches down in the water, followed soon by his chest and forepaws. Lying in the waves, he waited for her to join him in the water, then cast a friendly smile in her direction as she started bathing.
"I'm Earth Streak, but you can call me Taron. What's your name, miss?"

She liked this male, he seemed to have the same ideas in mind she did. Finally someone to relate to. "Bright Lights," She responded introducing herself to the other, "But you may call me Aurora," She bathed gracefully letting the water wash away the evil from her pelt. Unlike the male she didn't disturb the water more then she had to.

"That's a pretty name," Taron commented with a smile and all innocence. It was nice to say, both names, but especially 'Aurora'. Something about the name made him want to say it over and over again aloud. Fortunately, in a rare moment of common sense, he realized that she might find that a bit weird and perhaps stupid if he was heard doing that.
From his reclined position in the water, doing his best impression of a rock or other branching point for the flowing stream, Taron watched Aurora cleanse her white coat. She seemed so graceful in doing so; not like him, splashing about like a pup and making a wet chaos of doing so. Not that he normally cared what he looked like getting clean; he was just enjoying himself in the process. Only now, he had someone else with which to compare his rowdy bathing habits.
Well, he wouldn't do any crazy splashing about while Aurora was here. She probably wouldn't like it and might leave. That would make Taron sad. He'd much rather have someone around to talk to, while enjoying the water.
"And I thought my fur was hard to keep clean," he commented, half to himself at first, before glancing up to meet Aurora's eyes. "You must have a horrible time trying to keep such pure, beautiful fur clean without bathing constantly." It was an observation mostly, but he continued with an odd passing thought, "Ever wonder if you could live in a river?"

She gave him a small kind smile. "Well keeping it clean in the winter is much easier, its when the snow melts making things dirty again is when its hard to keep myself clean." Glancing around she began to wish there was some sort of snow around or ice to dry off on, but none was found in the vicinity. "No, I have not wondered, I believe it would be hard to live in a river. It'd be quite cold in the winter"

Taron frowned; he hadn't thought of that! Just that he thought it might be cleaner to do so, if one didn't have to leave the river and get all muddy again. "Good point," he muttered, as if thinking aloud. "I wonder how the fish do it?"
Were fish really that clean? All the ones he'd caught were kinda' smelly, but...they didn't have dirt on them. That was for sure! Therefore, they were clean.
Taron smiled back at Aurora. "In any case, you're right. I miss the snow if only because it keeps the dirt frozen and covered up for a while. Even if it's too cold to live in a river then," he laughed. Folding his paws in front of him, he aimed a friendly smile in her direction. "So, do you live around here? I was just sort of passing through, myself..."

"I assume they are adapted to living in the cold waters in the winter," After finishing the cleaning of her fur she found herself laying down in the waters next to Taron. "Well I was just passing through myself as well. I've been searching for a pack to join for a few weeks now."

"I suppose they'd have to be," he acknowledged with a nod. "Otherwise the river would be full of frozen fish." The thought made him grin for a moment.
He continued grinning when Aurora joined him for a rest in the stream's gentle current. "Me too," he admitted. "Though, I've noticed more scents around here than at home. I mean, of other Krokotas. I just haven't run across many until now." And now he had! Well, he and Aurora made two anyway. Not quite a pack, but better than being alone, that was for sure.
"I wonder who else lives around here," he wondered idlly. "Hopefully they're friendly," he added as an afterthought. They would be, right? He'd never really met a bad Krokotas...well, not a malicious one anyway. Just some of the jerks from his old pack, but...that was another issue.

Aurora nodded in agreement, she too had smelled the other scents of other Krokota, but really hadn't seen any. "If they are not friendly," She suggested, "Then we could just leave and look else where."
