"Believe me, Zeke, let me handle this one."

It was the last thing she'd said to the bewildered vet who hadn't really understood Alex's insistence to handle the newborn, but she didn't really want to get into details. Milton was...special. He was eccentric. And the kindest way to say it was that Milton was really just Milton. She had made a promise to the scowling and foul-tempered wizard and his charming companion that she would bring the Raevan to him when born - and though she hadn't thought about it for a time, seeing the file on her desk for the Pooka had jarred her memory. It was time to make good on it.

Because it was no longer her job to handle the transaction of Raevan to Guardian, she didn't have time to let Zul do his feeling out or take it easy; she had to bring the new guy to his home and get back to work, as work did not wait for her and piled up by the minute. Alex's booted footfalls were clipped and loud against the tile floor as she walked down the hallway, Zul floating as a silent vigil at her side. Though their time was limited, she still let him in first - trusting the Frei to warn her if they were going to have another Basil on their hands. The Italian gave a polite knock before opening the hydraulic door with a quiet hiss, the demon floating around it and through the opened space.

Zul himself was fairly worn from the past month's events, his normal cheery disposition simmered into polite interest and the smile he wore that never seemed to fade. His vibrancy was somewhat diminished, but in its place was a darker countenance of experience, a type of stain that was inked in him. As he floated into the lab, he was not expecting much - maybe something ghostly like Air-head or white like Xiu - and thus was understandably startled when he was only half right. The part he was half-wrong about was wholly unexpected and entirely welcomed.

"Alix," he called in his smoky voice, amusement lacing in his words, "you're going to want to take him home and not to Milton." The demon's passive smile warmed into a toothy grin, looking at the dark-skinned male with great interest. Whatever did they have here?

A pair of sleepy eyes peered back at the demon, an eerie golden glow beneath the darkest of eyelashes. For a while, it had been listening to the sounds that permeated the stillness of that chilled cell, drifting pleasantly between this new, prickling world and the abyss. Tap tap tap... it filtered its way through, made the two slick-furred sensors tremble and quirk against the greater mess of hair. Only when the door had opened, though, that thick slide of weight and the hiss of air moving from one realm to the next, did the newborn give tangibility a more thorough consideration. His sharp, canine ears perked with interest and his chin tilted up in anticipation. To Zul, who saw him first, it might seem as if the movement solidified him- like the edges of his form were still not quite so certain how to fit around the rune it claimed, if indeed it felt inclined to conform at all, until that moment of clarity. It was like watching something freeze and crystalize instantaneously, or perhaps wiping steam from glass, so quick perhaps it had only been a trick of the light.

Those sallow eyes narrowed with the murmur of sound, watching the hole flap open and shut and the curious flash of white between. The Raevan’s own lips parted, pursed; its eyes glowed, delighted and feral. More, it seemed to insist, so intense it could, actually, be quite frightening by right of contrast. There was a rustle as the feathered, white wings seemed to fluff themselves up. This was actually a sign of excitement and pleasure, though the Raevan certainly didn’t have a name for it yet. All it knew was that it had a means of doing more than looking.

Suddenly, it was shooting forward, not so fast that it could be considered a ‘sprint’ by human standards, but most definitely a ‘brisk walk’. Truth be told, he had been moving since the beginning, little by little, and had explored the room after getting down the minor mechanics of inhabiting a body. It had taken no more than a matter of minutes, and the silence had become so disinteresting that a nap simply came naturally with a state of repose. Now that there was something new to discover, it wasted no more time in engaging it. If Zul didn’t move quickly, he was quite literally going to have his hands full of the dark newcomer, as the younger Raevan seemed to have little to no concept of personal space and seemed to hold a keen interest in discovering just what their elder’s hair smelled like.

Unfortunately for Alex, and perhaps fortunately for Zul, the demon was not inclined to move out of the blurred path of white. On the contrary, the elder Frei grinned crookedly at the canine-esque male rushed him, arms at ease at his side and slightly spread in uncertain welcome. Only when he had the newborn practically attached to him did he laugh, a light, smoke-filled sound that didn't reach the walls but was warm and rather pleased. "Hello," he greeted the dark-skinned male, taking a page out of the Pooka's book and breathing in deeply. The smell was entirely foreign and even more pleasant to the demon: rich and earthy, but cool like the sky before rain, giving him the impression of flight and motion. He decided just from the other's exuberance and smell alone that he liked the newborn very much - a delightful change from the Virus Frei that he had practically abhorred after five minutes.

For her part, the Italian could only make out white arms and dark hands blending with her own ward's hair and sun-kissed skin. Alex could just imagine how much the demon was enjoying the attention and touch, something the Frei had come to accept as normal and even encouraged in a greeting. Running slender fingers over her face, she laughed softly under her breath, shaking her head to herself and rubbing her brow. It was hard, even after all this time, to remind herself that this was just how Zul was. He meant nothing bad or insinuating by it.

She opened her mouth to say something and stopped, catching a brief glimpse of the new Raevan's profile. Alex was so stricken by his strong features that the words died before they left her lips, gaping a little; her first thought was that he had a strangely prominent Egyptian influence. The Frei's make-up came back to her, jarring her memory: pooka. Drawing in a quick, startled breath, she quickly wore a smile and crossed her arms, her green eyes finally starting to sort out the limbs of what belonged to whom. "You can acquaint yourselves in the vehicle, Zul," she chuckled, somewhat amused by the display. "Get your greetings out of the way and let's go, or Milton will have us all as toads."

Either the demon didn't hear or was just having too much fun to worry about the prospect of being toad-ified. "He's handsome." Zul grinned, one hand against the white-clad side, the other lifting tentatively towards the remarkably sharp looking ears. He'd never seen anything like them before! "I hope he greets Milton like this - without the promise of being zapped for it."

"It's Milton."

"I can hope."
